I need warm waterproof boots to wear in my horse barn. I had a pair of LL Bean leather boots that zippered and were shearling lined that I loved, but the zipper broke and they don't offer the style any longer. I purchased these after trying a few other styles. I do like the easy on and off, but the sole isn't lined and the heel area is excessively wide. They are okay for barn chores, but I wouldn't be able to walk any distance in them. Noting that these boots are already over $200, I've ordered the shearling insoles (haven't arrived yet) with hopes that they make them a little snugger. I'm hoping that will help.

Overall, I really like this boot.
HOWEVER - it has one big flaw, which is why it gets only a 3.
Bean really should consider a redesign - then I would give it 5 stars.
...
Here's the thing...the fleece lining only goes from the top of the boot down to where it meets that rubber upper. The seaming between the two materials is poorly done.
... Now...because the boot is a slip-on, not a lace-up, your feet tend to move up and down in the boot when you walk. The thinner the socks you wear, the more that will happen.
...
Sooooo....means your ankle is chafing against that bumpy seam behind your ankle. I tightened the strap 2 notches, which helps my foot stay in the boot better. But there will always be some movement.
...
I like the slip-on convenience, and realize that it won't be as snug as a lace-up....
BUT - that is why you really ought to make that seam be much smoother or padded!
...
So be warned. I sent the first pair back, because the seaming was really raw and chafing, AND because one of the leather pieces was poor quality.
...
The pair I have now I love. I really do need to wear thick socks for them to fit best, but hey - they're winter boots, so that's totally fine. THe seaming is a little bit better - smooth enough that i can wear them for quick jaunts with thinner socks.
...
So designers at Bean - please walk around in these boots for a while and see if you can't make clean seams that won't chafe.
...
Thanks!

Living in Maine, I've felt that years of my life could go to waste while lacing/unlacing my beloved 10" shearling lined Bean boots. I have worn them almost daily in the winters since living here. So this year, I hoped to find a slip on boot that I could use to quickly get ready on days where it's cold/messy, but not necessarily a blizzard. These will probably fit the bill. I can use them to take the dog out for a brief walk down the street, but the fact that they slip quite a bit when walking, means that an hour-long walk is going to really tire you out, and quickly wear down your priceless Smartwool socks. These seem to fit a little tighter in the toe box than my other lined boots from 6 years ago. (I even sat them side by side, thinking I had ordered a different size.) They look the same length, but fit slightly more snug. (Mind you, all of these boots only have shearling in the boot shaft and have Thinsulate lining around the foot area.) I wish I could get the taller shearling lined boots with the side zippers again. Bean made them for 1-2 years and I've always regretted not buying them! I'd prefer an easy on/off boot that is able to be better secured than these are around the ankle/lower leg. I was able to get this pair at a very good price on sale and with Bean Bucks, so I'm giving them a try for now.... I've said they fit true to size, meaning that I can comfortably wear thicker socks with the size 8, when I normally am between an 8/8.5 in regular shoes.

I bought these boots to replace and old pair of Bean boots that are over 30 yrs old. My old pair is completely lined in shearling all the way to the toe. The new version only has shearling to the connecting seam at the ankle not all the way to the toe. I should have read the reviews. I returned the boots. What is the point of paying $100 more for the shearling lining only to have half the boot lined in shearling and not the most important half - your toes!

I ordered early this year so I could get these before they sold out. Unfortunately, I followed the advice about sizing and got a 9. I wear an 8.5 usually. They were late in coming and too big and now the 8 is sold out. Also, was disappointed to find out there is no shearling in the foot! It does have a bit of insulation and a padded removable footbed but I really was wanting the shearling or wool at least inside the foot and footbed. The shearling in the ankle part is pretty wimpy too. The leather is very nice tho and I might have kept them if they fit. They were just too clunky to walk in and I dont have super thick socks. I wanted these to take my dogs out in the winter but I think I will stick with my pair of Uggs. I really wish Bean would have a better stock of these type of boots. They aren't available year round and when they become available they sell out right away. People are now taking advantage of the shortage every year and buying up pairs to sell on ebay at a big mark up. Almost every Bean boot they sell is wildly popular every year so I guess I don't understand why they can't have enough to sell to customers who want to buy them. The slider tool in the size rating is not allowing me to choose Somewhat large which is where I would put these, not very large for the size chosen.

Expensive boots that wear out too easily. Only worn 6-7 months total and the heels are all worn out. Too soft rubber. For the price they should be better quality and they LL bean won't even fix them.

They looked nice but definitely were not the same quality as bean boots I've purchased in the past. The lining looked cheap and they didn't fit my feet at all- they had no foot bed, slipped off when I walked- they were like boats.

The shoe are not lined in foot area and the left shoe sole was higher than the right shoe and the right shoe was smaller than the left. When I walked in the shoes, it was like one leg was longer than the other. One of the shoe sole was thicker than other was half the size causing the problem and the fabric did not blend well. Very disappointing for the price. Will be returning

Bought these back in January and they were on backorder till end of March so when I finally received them the went unopened until just a few weeks ago. I was expecting them to be pretty much the same quality as my 20 year old pair but was quickly disappointed. The seam where the rubber meets the leather rubs painfully against my heel. The old pair has a nice strip of leather that runs the full length of the inside back of the boot and there is absolutely no discomfort where rubber meets leather. Sorry LL but these are on the way back. I will continue to wear the old pair for now and hopefully sometime in the very near future this problem will be corrected.

I usually wear a 10 in boots (9 1/2 in shoes) but ordered the 9 knowing Bean boots run large and also according to fit guide. The 9 fit but would be tight with a thick sock. I know if I ordered the 10, it would be huge. The worst part was the construction. The leather, where sewn to the rubber boot, was cut and sewn very poorly and looked terrible. I wish I would have taken a photo before sending them back. The dart, for matching during sewing, was still there and they looked terrible. I have an old pair that are much better than the new.

I've been oogling these since 2016 and waiting for another pair of winter boots to die so that I could treat myself to these beauties! They arrived yesterday and I was barely through the door before I had them on and ... I'm so disappointed. The welt where the rubber meets the leather is very uncomfortable; all the way around the foot. I, like the other reviewers that observed this, don't understand why either the shearling doesn't come down lower or the fleecy footbox liner doesn't come up higher to cover that rough edge. I'm a longtime wearer/lover of the bean boot with the red sole (7 years-1 resole!) and, though they are constructed in much the same way; I have never noticed where the upper and the lower meet. I'm on the fence about whether to return them immediately or to see if a super thick sock will help. I've just eyed them for so long, I want them to work! Otherwise, the construction and stitching meets all of my high-quality expectations for LL Bean.

I love these boots. I had a pair of unlined Loungers that belonged to my Mom that I always wore but they somehow were lost in a move. Unfortunately I need to return this pair. I agree with the others that said the seam rubs on the back of the heel. I'm not sure why it isn't covered or why the full inside wasn't fleece lined. I wear a 9 1/2 so sized down to a 9 as suggested but my toes are right against the top of the boot so I couldn't wear any socks at all which is a problem because of the rough seam at the heel. It would wear the skin right off or blister pretty bad. They ran a little narrow so could barely move my toes. There's a small patch inside one boot where the fleece isn't attached.
I'm disappointed because these would have been the perfect pull on boot for walking my new pup once the snow flies. I'm not sure whether I should take a chance on a bigger size because of the rough heel seam or try the unlined Lounger.

This boot has been on my wish list for a long time. I love this boot! The size guide indicates that the boot runs small and suggests I order up a size, so in 2015 I ordered a size 10. They were way too large. I tried to exchange them for a size 9. SOLD OUT. I waited until fall of 2016. Yay! They have a 9 medium! I order it. It's still too big. I try to exchange it for a size 8. SOLD OUT. Not a lot of inventory and a not-helpful size guide have left me very disappointed.

these boots are beautiful! i have patiently been waiting to be able to order them. i was finally able to but they were backordered. then the backorder was pushed back more, but finally i got them only to realize that my usually true to size 8 foot was way way too big for me. i had to put on two pair of my biggest pair of socks to not feel like they were going to fall off. now i know that they are supposed to fit like a clog and have room in the heel but i shouldn't have to wear two giant socks to make them feel like they would stay on. i went with what the product suggested for size ordering but i should have gone with what previous reviews said instead because now i know i need a 7w except now those boots are backordered until February 27th!! i am soooooooo sad. i wanted these for this winter (well technically i wanted them last winter) and now it looks like i will have to wait another year to have them. oh and im a local mainer i wish i could get them in store but they are out of stock too.

SAVE YOUR MONEY! When we purchased these boots in 2021, I specifically asked if they fell under the program to have them resoled by LL BEAN for a fee. We invest in LL Bean products for quality and longevity. I was told they fell under the same program as the tie ones and could be resoled for a fee. It is time for resoling as my daughter has been wearing these boots since 2021. She took them to LL Bean in Dedham where they were shipped out to be resoled. They were returned and she was told via phone call by an LL BEAN employee that they do NOT resole this model of boots. Even though these boots are MADE IN MAINE with the tie version, they will NOT resole this boots. I am very DISAPPOINTED!

First timer with LLBean, these were adorable and I wanted them to work so badly! I tried with 2 orders. The first was a quality issue? There was glue and a large visible separation on the boot b/w rubber and leather. A GAP. The second was the design? There is indeed a back seam that almost created a blister in only 5 steps. I bought the shearling insoles to try to make them work! Still an issue. I also bought the bean socks. 2 extras to make them work. I'm keeping the socks, but not the insoles and boots I'm currently returning. Once I get my return credit, I would love to find a boot that works! Please help me LLBean. I'm brand new. I hope the quality issues with this one were not common? Not sure...

I've had LLBean boots for over 40 years. I've never been without a pair. I ordered these, put my foot in and was immediately disappointed thinking that someone forgot to do a quality check. The lining ends above the threading of rubber to leather and the seams are exposed and scrape against the wearers foot. Is this a design flaw? Yes it is. I was surprised this is how they are sold as I returned it to my local store. "I don't know why they do that" said the clerks that accepted my return. I guess we were all agreed that the design of this boot was certainly not up to LL Bean standards for both comfort and quality. Especially when paying $270 a pair.

I had these boots 5 years ago but lost them in a flood. I just rebought the same design and they have changed how they made these boots. There used to be soft lining all over the inside with no seam indent. I could slide on and off barefoot or with socks comfortably. These boots now have an uncomfortable seam running around the inside that sticks out and I can feel the seam even with thick socks. These are just not the same quality. I am bummed because I love LLBean and how long their products typically last.

I found these to be terribly uncomfortable. I had high hopes but there is a big seam that runs around the inside of the boot and every time I took a step, my heel would rub against the seam. Returned immediately

I have been wearing these boots here in Wisconsin and unfortunately, these boots are not good for winter wear. The shearling does not line the entire boot but only forms a cuff around the top of the boot. This shearling cuff does not prevent snow from entering the boot. There is no insulation in the toe box or around the foot at all, and as a consequence, they do not keep your feet warm. I thought I could wear these for walking the dogs in the winter but they're not water-resistant either--cold, wet feet every time!

I ordered one size down (I wear an 8 so ordered 7) and the fit is perfect with socks. One star because I ordered these to wear sockless and there's no way I can do that with the seam in the back of each boot. I can't believe these boots are shipped out like this! I'm so bummed - I waited nearly 2 months for this order to be fulfilled and was SO excited when they got here - the seam just ruins the boots. Also the toe box etc isn't shearling lined, but even if this were the only issue they would be ok. On the plus side, they are cute if you don't mind your Achilles being rubbed off. Unsure of whether or not to return because other reviews have made that sound like a huge hassle.

L.L. Bean has its own "special" sizing for this boot, so I had trouble purchasing this for my wife for xmas. I ended up just asking her to help me find the right size. When the boots arrived, she found them too tight and uncomfortable. Apparently, returns aren't free at L.L. Bean? They should be if the company is going to use sizing that is different than people are used to. Anyway, upon return, we found out the item was on back-order. A month and a half after xmas, the bigger boots arrived, and they slip off my wife's feet. Unbelievably frustrating and expensive experience.

These boots are horrible! What happened to the quality?! I'm so disappointed. I purchased a pair of theses boots about 10 plus years ago and I loved them! They were fully lined with the wool/shearing and I could wear them barefooted in the brutal Chicago winters. They were warm and comfy. But the boots I received today are not fully lined and I can't wear them barefooted because of the seam sewn all the way around the boot rubs against my foot and it's so thick I can feel it with socks. This is the second pair of boots I will never order from LLBean ever again. I have a pair of storm chasers in yellow and they're completely worn out but the colors LLBean offers are so ugly I can't see myself spending any money on them and now theses boots are so ill made that I will not be ordering another pair nor would I recommend. I too like so many other reviewers wanted a pair of boots I could easily slip in and out of for walking the dog but looks like I'll be looking elsewhere from now on. What a shame smh
