Don't confuse this very lightweight material with real Maine flannel or with heavy chamois cloth. I ordered this thinking it would be similar to my 14-15 year old plaid LL Bean robe. What a disappointment. It's not at all close. The fine print discloses and the one star reviews confirm that this is a nice but very LIGHTWEIGHT flannel robe. Not as heavy as many shirt materials. Pretty but not what I expected.
I called customer service and spoke with a very nice lady who, after commiserating mightily, confirmed that I could return the robe even though it had been monogrammed.
Perhaps my old robe is chamois, not "flannel", as the customer service lady suggested. I'd thought chamois came only in solid colors, not plaid. But they do have at least one plaid chamois cloth robe. So I'm sending this back and will check in the Fall catalogue about a good "stout", "wicked good" robe.
I might add that based on this exchange experience, Bean's change in return policy got bad treatment in much of the press.

I purchased this robe in the Blue Mackellar colour. The photo online shows a the robe in medium blue and yellow, but the robe that arrived is deep brown and blue. I have been ordering from LLBean for 30 years and the one thing that has always caused trepidation is that you are never sure if the colour in the catalogue is going to match what you receive. Why is this an ongoing issue with LLBean? It is very dissapointing. I posted this review earlier and it never showed up online.. maybe since I ordered it was ordered through my spouses account?

I have read a number of the one and two star reviews and see that many others have the same complaints as I.
First, the lint .. amazing amounts of lint that required cleaning the washer and dryer after laundering. Secondly, the sleeves are cut more like a shirt, making it hard to put on or take off .. and certainly not the loose comfy feel I want from a bathrobe. Lastly, a general feeling of poor quality .. not in keeping with the L. L. Bean of past experience.
I have had much better robes that cost much less. If possible, I intend to return and certainly would not recommend.

Over the years, I've purchased many items at LL Bean, but never have I purchased anything that was such a disappointment as my robe. I should have paid more attention to the negative reviews, but based on my previous experiences with Bean, I thought those reviews had to be somehow just wrong. It was I who was wrong! The robe was a "lint machine," just as others said. It left a trail throughout the house, showing where I had been. I determined to tough it out, and washed the thing 10 times with the same results. I even had to wipe out the interiors of the washer and dryer each time I used them for my robe, not to mention the clogged lint filter in the dryer! So I gave up, and washed and dried it one last time, folded it neatly and with an explanatory note, placed it in a clear plastic bag and dropped it in a roadside clothing box for the unfortunate. I hope it finds its way to someone who doesn't care so much about lint trails. But all was not lost, as I found in the far reaches of an unused closet a very old McGregor robe (a brand I haven't seen in many years)that still fits perfectly (as the Bean robe did not - even the so-called regular size was much too large) and does not shed lint. By the way, my Bean robe had frayed inside seams and long strings inside the pockets. So, not happy with this Bean purchase, but happy I did not drop my old hidden-away robe in a roadside clothing box some 30 years ago when I stopped wearing it. I'm wearing it now, and it's good as new.

The amount of dryer lint this robe produces is unbelievable. My husband has not even been able to wear the robe yet because of the amount of lint and shedding. I'm not exaggerating when I say I have washed and dried the robe 8 times over the past few days and each time the amount of resulting lint is massive. I wish I had kept it all so I could share a picture. The robe itself may eventually disappear before it ever gets worn.

I ordered a bathrobe for use in my upcoming surgery. Instead I received an extra large rugby shirt.
