As with practically everything I have purchased from LL Bean over the years, these shorts were well made and appeared to be exactly the same as a similar pair I had purchased some two years ago. However, when I put them on the pockets gaped. In an online chat with LL Bean, I learned that they have decreased these shorts across the seat by a half inch or so. Disappointing and somewhat mystifying, as the average American is, statistically speaking, growing larger each year. Bottom line, quality workmanship, but puzzling redesign logic. Caveat emptor.

If you're built even slightly athletic, you're going to want a larger size. I fit perfectly into 35w LL Bean jeans even their signature series which is a bit more tapered. I had to return the 3 pairs of these shorts I ordered and now searching for the right waist size for my build. These were too tight in the thigh and rear. Waist was not as loose as it should have been given the description or the "stretch" they claim. And at 98% cotton, even though they claim "pre-wash" so nothing shrinks, it always does slightly. Otherwise, they are nice.

I ended up returning these shorts for a refund because I did not like the cut/style. I thought the inseam was too long, I'm 6 feet tall and they went almost to my knee. If the inseam were a couple inches shorter I would have been happy. The fabric is very comfortable, I have a lakewashed sweatshirt that I love and so I was excited when I saw the lakewashed shorts come up. My other criticism is the sizing - I ordered a size 31 waist, because I have a pair of LL Bean hiking pants in that size which fit pretty well. However, these were too loose - I think for me the size 30 might even have been baggy, they seem to run large to size.

This product is inferior to the wrinkle-free shorts with hidden comfort waist. I wanted the red color but I would NOT buy this product again. I don't know what "Lakewashed" means but after one wash,, this product needs ironing to look decent

I liked the 'old' fit better. Completely different and definitely not what I would call 'standard fit'. More like traditional fit. Baggy. It would save time and returns if the changed fit was mentioned in the product copy.

Not good fit. Look like schoolboy shorts. Wouldn't recommend to anyone that has any sense of style.

Standard Fit works well for me, so I have several pairs of these shorts and like (liked) them. Just bought two more. The khaki pair were just like the old ones and I've kept them. The Heritage Khaki must be a new model, too big and baggy in just about every direction. They're going back to Maine for the summer. There's also a quality control problem with them. The Web page says a 10" inseam. My tape measure says my three other pairs, including the other pair in this order, all have the correct 10"; the Heritage Khaki pair has 10 1/2". Maybe no big deal for some, but I got shorter as I aged and that 1/2" is a problem for me. So a nuisance for this summer's wardrobe, but also raises questions about any future purchases with Standard Fit.

I returned them. They were too big, and needlessly baggy. Most of your clothes are this way. I've tried a few LL Bean items over the last year, but now I'm giving up.

Nicely made, but not stretch. My normal size is waist 34, a loose fit. Stretch jeans, etc in a size 33 are extremely comfortable. I ordered a size 33 from you but did not get the expected waist band stretch, that was implied. There was NO waist band stretch. The waist was way too uncomfortable for me, I passed the shorts on to a grand son

These are the smallest, tightest size 32 pants I have tried on in decades!

Very little stretch. Have had surgery which requires me to wear a prosthetic. Very uncomfortable.

Standard shorts, nothing that special here they fit true to size and look nice enough. I was miffed because even though these fit fine on me, the fly zipper seam came undone after first wash/wear. Poor stitching quality -- I just had my local tailor double-stitch it rather that deal with the hassle of paying Bean to exchange it. A little disappointed with the quality here.

This size works for me usually, but this time was too large in the waistband.

I purchased the shorts in size 38W because that is the size I wear in every other brand. These were much smaller in the waist and did not fit at all. Unfortunately I will need to return them. Otherwise good quality, the fit was just too small!

I have worn these exactly twice, and only briefly. I thought i would grow to like them, but simply do not like the color. Again, I have put them on twice--December 3, 2023 and May 16, 2025--and only briefly, changing immediately out of them into something else. I want to send them back and get bean bucks in credt

The length was not as advertised. Cut too long.didn't measure as 9" inseam. This is just sloppy work and seems to be getting more common with LLBean products. Overseas is cheaper but the quality is definitely lacking.

This rating is tough. The fabric appears strong, reasonable in term of softness. Stitching is good. The waist is accurate size. The problem, the size of the leg opening. It appears the leg opening may actually be the same size as the waist.

I had bought these thinking they would be a replacement would be a replacement for my stonecast khaki. The do not have the stretch or comfort of those. Really no stretch at all. It appears they have discontinued the stonecast line.

I bought these shorts about a month ago. The size is out of whack!!! I had to take them to an alteration business to take in the hem more than an inch to actually make them 9 inches as your website stated when I ordered them! Does LL Bean know how to measure!!

Compared to the same shorts purchased in previous years. These shorts are longer in the leg. Much looser in the waste and just baggy all around. The rise is much longer. I'm seeing this in other LL Bean men's clothing. It's no longer my go to store.
