I bought the blue one with the red stitching (quarter zip) in 2024. It is comfy, warm and the material is holding up well. I wear it a lot in winter. BUT, the color has faded quite a bit. Also, I machine wash as recommended and like most wool, it shrinks. I normally wear a regular, XL. I am going to order a new one but this time try a tall, XXL. One other note. A good alternative is a mid-weight made by Smart Wool. Similar price and tbh, i like the feel of the goods better

This item fits great. The only issue is the thumb holes are on the wrong side of the sleeve. They actually line up with my little finger. If you slip the hole over you thumb it rotates the sleeve and is noticeably uncomfortable.

Very warm and comfortable, but the arms are longer than mine and the high collar is awkward with some of my shirts.

Great base layer, very warm and comfy. I would like it to be a little longer so it would stay tucked in.

This came in a plastic container and was a gift for my nephew in Alaska. I did not remove it from its box so it is very hard to review. It was a nice color green. It is currently in transit to Alaska. He needs something warm so I hope this is it. I have no idea how it will fit

These wool products are awesome design and quality. Super warm and never stink like synthetic. The only reason I only gave it 4 star is that I was disappointed to discover they are made in China.

I purchased this item a bunch about 8 years ago and am still using it. At that time I was more of a large and each weighted in at 325 grams (tall).
I just received the XL Talls today. The box says 250g, but each weighted in at 300. So these are 10% less weight. Shrink-flation? Otherwise they seem to be same and I like the yellow color because cat/dog hair doesn't stand out nearly as bad
Incidentally the midsection of the XL is quite big on my 200lb 6' frame. It will accommodate a belly.

I like this shirt but am disappointed that it is made in China. Nearly all clothing these days is imported so it's difficult to avoid, however I try to purchase clothing that states (or claims) that it is responsibly and sustainably manufactured. I will shop at L.L. Bean a little more carefully in the future.

Nice and soft . I am using it as mid/top base layer for cycling in as cold as 17 degree F in nothern VA. It is wicking body sweat very good.

This mid weight layer is warm, and soft not itchy. Like the thumb holes and the loop on the back of the neck to hang up. Only 4 star since not crazy about the rubberized logo on the chest and length could be a bit longer inches back.

Fit well and used a few times already.
Not sure according to label if this being wool needs to be hung to dry after washing.

Runs a size bigger than expected. I ordered a size large, which fits perfect from Smartwool. LL Bean large was too big. Great quality, very soft and these have a fly which is a big plus over the Smartwool and $20 per piece cheaper!

This is a gift. My son has a similar one from a few years back he loves.

I just received the top tried on and fit great. 6ft 200lb XL. The only problem is the thumb opening is on the underside of the sleeve so you would have to twist the sleeve to get it over your thumb. I hope to hear from LL Bean if this is the design or a flaw.
Would rate higher if not for the thumb hole

Sorry, LL Bean but i was disappointed in this base layer. The fit was all wrong for me and the material didn't seem substantial. I'm only 5 ft-11 inches so I ordered an XL regular. The shirt was too short and didn't fit tight enough. Guess I should have ordered a Large Tall.

I have bought several of these over the years, same size. Love them. However, the recent purchase felt lighter and thinner. So I weighed one that is about 7 years old and the new one. The old one was 11.7 ounces, the new one 8.7. Yup, lighter and thinner.

I have one that is 2 years old that I wear consistently in the winter as a base layer and pajama top. The wool itself is comfortable, warm, and order resistant. I go 2 weeks without washing it without a problem. When I do wash it, it is always done by hand with wool soap and laid flat to dry.
The length of the shirt and arms are correct. However construction wise the the armpits are cut funny. When I lift my arms up it is a bit restrictive. The material between the underside of my arm and lat bridges, and makes wing. I guess I wish it was better fitted in the armpit. Additionally, how the panels put together in this area creates a tension point in the armpit and pulls the seam apart creating a hole.

Bought this hoping it would be a better fit than previous sizes I have bought in Smartwool. Tall size will not fit you correctly if over 6'5". Overall pretty nice thermal, but does not have the softness of Smartwool. Warmth is there but wish the tall size was really made for taller people.

The fit and material is fine; however, the online images do not fully match the actual item. There is a tag / loop externally on the back of the neck. I saw this on the "Men's Cresta Wool Midweight 250 Crew Top, Print" version and avoided that shirt because of it. Well lo and behold.... this one has it too. This issue isn't significant enough for me to return this but I'm still not happy that I was misled by the images. It leads me to wonder if they switched manufacturers and therefore (perhaps) all earlier reviews are not a reflection of this shirt currently (3/17/2023). Coincidentally, I'm trying to upload a .jpg showing this tag and no matter what I try, the website is not accepting / uploading the image.

The shirt is warm and wicks okay. The thumb hole is 1/4 the way up my arm. I would have needed to get a large tall to maybe possibly us this shirt the way it was intended. Maybe an extra large. If you need a basic base layer, this will work. But be aware you may need to find a size larger to use the thumb hole.

Thin, overpriced. Expected a lot more considering the cost.

Love this shirt but after a few washes it shrunk. It doesn't stay tucked in anymore. I would have thought they would make them longer as they are base layers. I still love it but I just wear it around the house.

Felt thinner and lighter than previous purchases. I have bought several of these over the years. So I weighed them. The new one is 9.7 ounces. The old ones are 11.7 ounces.

Over the last 5 years or so, LLB can't seem to make clothing true to size anymore. Usually too large, but in this case, too small. Ordered my normal size L - doesn't fit, especially way too short sleeve length. Returned for XL, same problems. Kept it anyway (rather then pay yet another $6.50 return fee) and will wear as an underlayer, but not being able to use the thumbholes in the sleeves negates my sole reason for buying. Frustrating!

I returned item as I believe the sleeve length is 4" too short for being classified as "tall"
