These shorts were really large in the waist. Also, the drawstring was odd. Would have been better to have elastic waist.
I am sending them back.

I don't know whether to give these shorts one star or five, so I'm settling on three. The first pair I got earlier this summer, black, is so comfortable, and I'm speaking as one who hates wearing shorts. I was very excited to find another neutral color, dark taupe, back in stock, but this pair fit completely differently. I would say it seemed almost a whole size smaller. I ordered another one just to see of the first one was mislabeled, but it was almost, though not quite, as small. So now I don't know what size to get if I ever order another pair. I'm so disappointed!

Nice product that looked cute from the front until I looked through a mirror to the back view.
and I'm sad to say that there was lots of excess fabric making the fit look very unbecoming.
I ordered the shorts in two colors excited to have some awesome shorts. I'm returning that first delivered pair. One pair was on back order so I decided to just cancel it. LLBean is a wonderful company with excellent customer service and beautiful things that I wear for years. I had on one of their Madras shirts the other day and my husband said "You pick out really cute clothes.!" Thank you LLBean. I will try again.

I bring my two dogs to a wonderful park every day after work. Why am I mentioning this in a review of a pair of shorts you might be wondering? Well, because I'm frustrated that women's shorts and pants primarily have useless pockets. My husband's shorts and pants have deep pockets with button tops or zippers to keep items secure. Women's shorts and pants, other than cargo pants, generally have shallow pockets, often slanted, and without zippers or buttons. So, what do I do with my car keys? Often I clip them with a carabiner to a belt loop but these shorts don't have anything at the waist I can clip them to, and, there is a hole in the bottom of one of the uncovered pockets. I wouldn't dare put my cell phone in these flimsy pockets. Other than that, these shorts are comfortable and washable and fit nicely for hikes/walks. Please, LL Bean, make useful pockets which are secure so that women can actually use them. This issue isn't just an issue with LL Bean obviously, it applies to women's active wear in general.

I liked the fabric, but the style was not for me. Too loose and baggy for my taste.

I found the fit to be awkward. As others have posted, I found the rise to be too short and the legs, very baggy. Not at all comfortable, nor a good look for me.

I should have paid attention to other reviews that said these have a short rise. They don't fit at all well, and they're the same size as other Bean pants and shorts which fit quite well. I didn't love the color, although that's a matter of taste. I expected tan and these are almost yellow. The legs are pretty long and hit at the worst possible place on my legs, but they do look a bit more flattering when I roll up them up and fasten them with the tabs. Altogether disappointing. Will be returning them.

The fabric on these shorts seemed nice, but the fit from the waist to the crotch was short. I am average in height at 5'6" and wear other XL clothing from this company without this problem, so I was quite disappointed with the fit of these. I returned them quickly for a refund.

The material in these shorts is very comfortable. However, I find they run kinda big, and the more I wear them, the bigger they seem.

Very happy with how lightweight the shorts are and they dry fast. They fit a little more lose than other XL shorts I have. The tie helps but they are just not as flattering as I would have hoped from the pictures. I purchased the pink and if you sweat in these it shows. Perhaps another color wouldn't show as bad. The fabric also doesn't hold the fold very well so the cute snap on the side ends up just making the legs lopsided after a while.

I ordered two pair..one Black and one Sandbar. The black pair fits well and true to size. The lighter color one was much smaller, did not fit and I returned it. Perhaps a quality control issue?
Disappointing as I wanted the lighter color, too.

I like these a lot. Super comfortable, love the knit waist. But they wrinkle a lot after they're on. Just trying them on, they are a wrinkly mess. I don't mind having to take an iron to them after washing, but really should not be a mess in 5 minutes after putting on. Trying to decide whether to keep or not. Fit was great, and they are exactly what I was looking for, other than the wrinkles.

These are ok but not great. The fabric wrinkles and never looks crisp. The rise is a bit short in the back so if you are the least bit long waisted it will ride up in the back. The leg length is good but they could be a bit less baggy to be more flattering.

the shorts are very nice. would have given them a higher rating but the pockets hold nothing. they are shallow and things fall out. would be nice to have a pocket that would hold a cell phone.

I had a difficult time finding the right size. Large was too big and medium was snug. I liked the length and the quality of the material. Wish they had worked out.

The material is good and sturdy.
I anticipate several seasons of good use.
But, like many Bean pants for women, the pockets aren't deep enough to make them useful.
For example, you can't put an iPhone6 safely and securely in any of the pockets. That's an older, smaller phone.

What I like-these shorts fit great and they seemed very comfortable. I love the favorite fit! It does well w/ my pear shaped figure. Also, the dark blue color which is surprisingly hard to find in shorts was very nice. What I didn't like so much-these are a bit frumpy; certainly you'd wear these for comfort rather than style but they would feel great to wear around the house, the campsite, etc. Also I didn't like the long length, I think you need to be tall with long legs to make long shorts work. They looked okay when I rolled them up but I decided I just didn't want to have to deal with the roll up legs so I returned them. Maybe in the future these shorts could just be offered in two (or more) lengths instead of long length with a roll up option??

Very poor quality. Not up to the LLBean standards. Returned both pair. Hope to hear from them soon.

There's something very strange about the inseam crotch area of these shorts. Also, the colors are way off. The blue looked green and the green was army green. Would not recommend these.

The tag said "Wash before wearing, so I washed them. The minute they came out of the dryer it was clear that they were crumpled needed to be ironed. I don't remember seeing anything in the product description that told me that. I don't know why I keep falling for it. It has happened to me too many times with LLBean products. It needs to be clear if a garment or other product will need to be ironed after washing.

I bought the green and blue and the colors were almost the same. I had two of my friends look at they agreed. The light blue is not blue at all but light green, the exact color of what the green looks like that is shown. The green is actuallly a dark army green. The size is bulky and large and not appealing at all. It's like wearing a soggy diaper. I sent both back.
