I own 2 pairs each of the Vista crops and Vista pants and typically buy medium. I found these to be very snug and cut very differently from their longer cousins. Made very well. Like the Vista material. But these are made for someone with zero hips. Also much shorter than I am comfortable wearing. Might be great for another shape body. Consider you might size up, though.

The material is light and breathable. The waist band was a little tight for me and the material draped too tightly around my hips. I was disappointed because I wanted to wear these on hot days. I will be returning.

I'm guessing LL Bean sizing is extremely generous because I am usually a large/12 and these shorts were huge on me. The shorts themselves are good quality and seem like they'd be great to wear but with the sizing being so off I'm hesitant to buy a smaller size online without trying them on first.

These shorts were a very nice quality. Comfy, soft and with a drawstring waist. But, I returned them because I did not think they looked good on me. The legs flare out wide at the bottom which did not look good on me.

I really, really wanted to like these because I wanted shorts with an elastic waist for working from home all summer and for light hiking, but alas... although I think they are true to size, they just fit weirdly on me. I'm curvy, and the nylon fabric kept riding up on my waist while sitting or walking. The fabric is also stretchy, so just wearing them while sitting at my desk for a while made the legs stretch out. Then, because of the longer length, the wider fit made my legs look stumpy. I probably could have kept them just for doing things where I don't care how I look, but 1) they're too expensive to be relegated to working/grubby clothes, and 2) feeling good in clothes matters to me, so back they went.

These shorts had an awkward fit for my apple shaped body - way too long and seriously baggy in the leg. They had almost an A line like flair, which was super unflattering at that length. I got them hemmed - taken up and in on the leg, and they now fit like a glove. They are perfect, but I paid a lot to make a custom fit. I will wear they daily, so it is worth the price, but buyer be ware. Also, the other reviewers comments re: piling from the wash were unfortunately right. I turn them inside out to wash, which I think helps, but still for a daily wear athletic short, I would have hoped for a more easy care fabric.

These fit great, and the material is very comfortable. I returned these because I didn't like the way the legs fit - too wide.

I loved these shorts so much I purchased three pairs over the last two years. They are the most comfortable ones I have ever owned and look really nice too. However I cannot recommend them because although the fabric is wonderful in drape and weight it PILLS. Both pairs I purchased in the summer of 2018 can only be worn at home now. The pair from the summer of 2019 is beginning to go. I would describe myself as easy on clothing and most of what I own lasts for many years before I eventually donate it because it has gone out of style.

Absolutely love everything about these shorts except the length. I would order in every color if they were at least 2 inches longer!! Please make a optional longer pair.

Although I loved these shorts when I first received them they have pilled very badly on the front of both legs. I even went to purchase a second pair they were so very comfortable during the heat of summer! But with the pilling they look older than one season's wear. Unfortunately will not be buying another pair as I'd like to have items that can be worn at least a couple of years without such wear being apparent, especially at their price point!

these are beautiful shorts with great details and comfortable fabric. i loved everything except the fit which was too short in the crotch, tight in the waist, and boxy in the legs. had to return.

No matter how much I cinched them up with drawstring (stretchy), I could not put anything in the pockets without them coming down. Will be returning.

Not a good short. The ties are made of elastic so when you pull them to tie they only stretch without tightening. Luckily I know how to sew so I replaced them with another corded one.

Love them for their comfort, but they pill so badly. I have never put them in the dryer and cold water wash, but they are so pilled I only wear them for gardening now. It's a shame since they tick all the other boxes for me.

I've had these shorts for about a year. The last few times I washed them the ties tangled hideously. I was able, after about 20-25 min, to detangle them, but this last time it was impossible. If I hadn't been able to cut the tie off, I would have had to toss them. $65 for a pair of shorts to last one year! Come on LL Bean

The sizing is inconsistent. Black small is huge, black extra small has too small crotch depth. Granite small has same waist as black extra small crotch depth better but still needs improvement. Checked true to size because there is no other option. Must try on to test fit.

I like the fit and navy color of these shorts. But after about five washes, the fabric starts to pill.

These shorts are great...I love the length (perfect!) and the 2 zipper pockets (1 fits my cellphone! 1 for credit cards; the perfect combo for a day at the amusement park, no bag required). However, I have had these 1 year and they are pilling and the thread is unraveling. :( I have a similar pair from G^P and I don't have this problem at all. The laundry care instructions do say to wash them on delicate. I admit I didn't always do that, but I hate babysitting my clothes like that and at this price point I wouldn't order these again.

I have these shorts in all of the colors available (and doubles in blue and black). I love the shorts, great fabric for sports in the heat. Unfortunately, the pockets are unraveling in a big way. There's no way that I can trust anything in my pockets in these shorts. For the price of these shorts (which is a lot!), they should be of much better quality!

I love these shorts. BUT: the fabric pills horribly in some random areas. They fit great, look good, but I can't put my money into more of these if they're going to pill like this, as they look rather trashy once they do. Apparently some people don't have this problem, but obviously others do. Where is the issue?

I absolutely LOVED these shorts. Comfortable, cool in summer, fit was great but there is a big problem....the fabric pills! I laundered them as per manufacturers instructions. The pilling is worse in certain colors. I just pulled them out for a trip that I am planning on taking to see if this is something I would be able to wear and the answer is no. Since these shorts are quite expensive, I wanted to let people know that there can be a problem after they are worn/laundered with the fabric pilling..

I loved these shorts at first. So comfortable. Great pockets with zippers. But the fabric did not hold up at all. I only washed these with like fabrics, in cold water and NEVER used the dryer. Only let them hang to dry. The fabric pilled and got progressively worse with every wash and wear. Such a disappointment. I ended up returning these shorts for poor quality.

I love the fit and comfort of these shorts, but the material tends to pill after just a few washings.

I have been an LLB customer for over 40 years. The quality of LLB products has always been good / great, and dependably so until the pandemic hit. At that point, I think LLB lost their bearings, products, including the material from which they were created, suddenly became styled differently and made cheaply. These shorts are consistent with that: the pockets are too small, the fabric feel is off and it "pills" (I am not going to start shaving my shorts fabric!), the waistband drawstring ( why needed?) is a piece of elastic that catches on things with metal tips that clang on everything and would presumably cause issues in airport metal detectors. I have tried to like these but remain very disappointed in these and most other clothing items purchased over the last year. I am looking forward to LLB returning to their "roots" PLEASE!
