I was so excited when I received these shorts as they are perfect length and so comfortable. I am 5'7", medium build and 127lbs. I figured the size S would fit, but I believe they are a bit too big. I have a good amount of room in the legs and waist. I am going to try the XS and see if I like them better. 4 STARS because the waist tie is on the outside of these shorts which just takes away from the streamlined look. The strings just "flap" around even if tied and get in the way. Inside would be way more preferred, and would help keep the cinching in place. The tie is kind of useless as it loosens due to being on the outside.

I usually wear an 8 or 10 in pants, and ordered a M in the shorts. The waistband is large and stretch, with a smaller drawstring that sits in the top fold of the waistband. The shorts are very roomy. I could have ordered a S and they would have fit much better.

These shorts fit very nicely and are very comfortable. They do wash well. I would like them even more and would give 5 stars if they were maybe 2 inches longer. A little too short for someone my age but I still really like them in general.

Got these for hiking. They're not the best hiking shorts I've ever had but they're good. The fabric is very light weight and comfortable. I'll be shocked if I ever experience any chafing. I don't know how durable the thin material will prove to be but it sure is nice to wear. The sizing seems to be consistent with the size chart. I got size small which is supposed to be size 6-8. They were a bit looser on me than would be ideal but I suppose that should be expected since I'm usually more of a 6 than an 8. (I'm around 5'4', around 130#) Thought about trying an XS but XS wasn't available and it's probably better for hiking shorts to be on the loose side than the tight side. The waist is by far the loosest part but that's not unusual for me (I'm very pear shaped) and you can use the draw string to tighten up the waist. The draw string is a small frustration. First of all it's way too long-I think llbean must use the same length string whether the shorts are size 6 or 26. (I've seen this in other llbean products as well.) Also, it's stretchy which seems goofy-the string is used to tighten the waist but as you pull on it the string just stretches a fair bit before it actually begins to tighten. This is a small problem and it would be easy enough replace the draw string myself but I hope in the future llbean improves this. I like that the front pockets have zippers. I don't want to loose stuff on the trail. The pockets are big. I was able to carry my phone very comfortably in the front pocket.

I bought these shorts based on the very positive reviews. I usually do not spend this much money for shorts, however, am glad that I did. These shorts are extremely comfortable and flattering. They do run big but have a draw string so I decided to just keep the ones I ordered.

Love these shorts and will order another pair! Wish the front pockets were a bit deeper as they were a snug fit for my cell phone. Do like the zipper closure on these pockets to ensure stuff stays put. Perfect for my Norway trip!

These shorts are nice, but once again the pockets leave something to be desired. I'd love to be able to have my phone in a pocket, but these pockets just don't work. It is nice to have zippered pockets, though. They are very comfortable and dry quickly.

I have two pairs of these shorts and I love them. The only problem is one of them has peeled significantly almost to the point where I can't wear them anymore yet the other pair has not done it at all, and I wash them the exact same way in line dry them both.

True to size for fit. Comfortable with capital T. Launders perfectly, packs perfectly, no wrinkles. Two good side pockets (wish one had a zipper). No complaints. Have several pairs and they last well.

It seems that I cannot go by measurements in LLBean plus sizes. If I roll up the waist one time, I hits my crotch but then I have a lot of material left on the sides of my legs. I am afraid if I order a 2X it will still be too big but I do not know how many times I can order a replacement.

I really wanted to love these shorts because the fit is good and they are comfortable, but overall these shorts are a poor value for the money. The drawstring is a stretchy material that is comically long - it makes you feel like you're about to do some kind of magic trick with your waistband. It dangles and is impossible to tie up because again, it's like 2 feet too long for the shorts. The drawstring ends are also finished with these metal end caps that are also annoying. The main problem however is that the material pills very easily, even without frequent washing. I would recommend only hand washing this item and never put it in the dryer under any circumstances. The pilling is noticeable after only a short time of wear. Sadly, would not recommend.

I almost always prefer 100% natural fabrics without any stretch. And while these shorts are completely synthetic, the Vista Camp line is good for casual hot weather and for through hikes. I can rinse these in a trail-side river and have them dry overnight (waistband will be damp still). The main flaw is the fabric seems to snag very easily, even when it does not seem to catch on anything. I suspect the damage occurs in the wash, as I have been noticing a lot more pulls as I hang them dry. When these look too ratty for public, I'll use them as summer pajama bottoms. The Comfort Trail Pants are much more durable. I won't repurchase these, but I have enjoyed them all season.

I bought 3 pairs of these shorts in different colors. I previously purchased the Vista camp slim pants and those have been very comfortable, durable and pill resistant. Unfortunately, while the shorts are equally comfortable, they have all pilled terribly in the seat, which the pants did not.

They are not very attractive, and the quality is less than I expected.

I love the style of these shorts However the pilling for shorts that are priced as quality merchandise should be addressed. All of mine look very old and need to be replaced. Is new material being considered?

I love the fit and style and comfort of these! However, after a few months 2 pairs already started coming apart in the waistline stitching.

I'm short and pear-shaped and the elastic on these pants is very soft. It folded over and added to the bulge around my middle.... but they are very comfortable...

I bought these per the size chart , a Large. Pros: I love the zipper pockets! Keeps my things secure! I like the feel and weight of the material. I bought the Soft Spruce color, I like that I could wear it with most colors. Cons: They are huge all over on me. The stretchiness of the drawstring makes me feel like it wouldn't hold the shorts up well. Also drawstring is way too long! Am returning them, have not worn them, so can't speak to the complaints about pilling. Am going to reorder another pair, one size down, and hope they fit.

Absolutely my favorite shorts. I wear them every weekend all summer long. However, after two summers they are so pilled I don't wear them for anything nice. The fabric is perfect except for the ease of snagging it. It's hard to pay this price for some that looks worn and ragged after a few months. However, everything else about them is absolutely perfect like all the five star reviews say. Wish Bean could stop them from pilling.

These are great shorts for paddling or other water sports, especially the zipper close pockets. Waste band is comfortable for active wear. But the actual shorts were a lot bigger than usual shorts or pants that are size 2X at other stores and online sources. I sent the exchange on the same day they arrived Oct. 27, and on 11/3 when I checked Bean still hasn't processed the exchange so I'm not too happy about that.

I actually returned these shorts. I found them to be too short. I was pretty disappointed as I love the long pants version.

Nice fit, comfortable and very light. But even free sitting on smooth surfaces the seat pillled after the first wearing and washing. Overpriced for endurance quality.

I'm 5'0" 160lbs and wear a medium petite in the vista camp pants. The L in these fit me best but the legs are wide, please make in petites!

Love the look of these shorts but after several washings in cold water and line dried I've noticed pilling of the fabric on the front legs. Odd as it's not all over, just the front. I got the olive green and love the color but the pilling on the front isn't welcome as these aren't cheep shorts by any means.
