I have hiked in these about 5 times. They do run small but are very comfortable. However, the tread keeps coming off the shoe. I have owned a lot of Altra shoes and this has never happened. I have glued the tread back with super glue, but it just gets worse and worse and now tread is missing. I have emailed customer service and haven't heard anything back. Avoid these until they get it figured out.

After trying two pairs of Altra waterproof shoes, my conclusion is that these models are the same size as the non-waterproof show, but with the addition of a membrane. The membrane takes a lot of space out of the shoes, so they just don't fit well. I would not buy this model again.

I only have 15 miles on these boots and the tread is coming off! The support and comfort is a 5 all day, but sad to say there going back to the shop for R&D to hopefully make the next version better! Very sad!!

I start out with Olympus 2.0 and followed by 3.0. These are the best quality product from Altra. My 2.0 is still good. 4.0 has wall issue and 5.0 is fallen off after 10 miles.

I love Altras and have worn them for years for hiking and trail running. My go to shoe in recent years has been the Lone Peak Hiker. They are super comfortable, light, and provide solid ankle support. My only criticism of that shoe is that the grip/sole tends to wear out really quickly and isn't amazing in wet conditions. When I heard about the Vibram mega grip being added to the Olympus series with a high top option, I was very excited. I wore these shoes on a handful of 10+ mile hikes/trail runs with some in wet conditions and the grip was excellent. Unfortunately, I got blisters on my achilles tendons on every hike. I even tried wearing the thickest hiking socks I own and still got the blisters. There is a pretty rough seam along the shoe in this area (same as the Lone Peak Hiker Waterproof Version which I had a similar blister issue with). I wish there was a way to have the comfort of the Lone Peak Hiker with the Vibram Megagrip. Hopefully we'll see this option in future versions!

I've heard good things about the lows, but the middies are too narrow, thus too tight for this trail walker with Small Fiber Neuropathy. The pressure on the sides of my feet is unpleasant and detracts from what could be the perfect shoe.

This shoe is seriously undersized. I ordered my regular size and it was hard to even get my foot in the shoe. The sides are extra tight--not like older Olympus models. The bevels on the tongue cut into my leg--maybe because it was too small, maybe not. The trail gaiter trap is absent, a real shame because I hike in rocky territory. I compared these to my Hokas, and the Hokas win out. Altra needs to offer a wide, offer accurate sizing, and get back to the trail gaiter traps necessary in dry climates.

Waited patiently for this model to be released. Now I'm going to be waiting patiently for the update. Received this two days after it hit the website and went for a walk. High cushioning is great. Fit seems snug -- maybe because the upper seems stiffer than all other Altra's that I've worn. I'm all on board for a more rugged hiker. Maybe 1/2 size up. Where this thing fails miserably is the ankle collar. It is very uncomfortable. The padding, while initially high, collapses once you tie the boot. I had to stop after 5 miles because the rivets used to attach the lace hooks were digging into my ankle. Not fun. The point where the foot and ankle flex seems poorly designed. The material can't "bunch" but there's very little give there and I felt a lot if digging. All of that aside, the foot bed felt great and traction was very good on a muddy trail. Back to the LP all weather.

I've worn this boot 4 times and the inside heel has already ripped and is coming apart on both boots. I regret buying this boot. Going back to Solomon.

Fit was right, design, or this pair, force pronation, shoes arrived in a plain box with no logo or inside wrapping, and no receipt or invoice. These seem to be imposter Altras. Poor service, Zappos.

I am a size 13 men's foot size. Depending on the shoe, I can wear a Medium width or EE. I wanted a highly cushioned zero-drop, natural-fit hiking shoe. What I received had three major faults. First, despite the signature fit with extra room in the toe box, the shoe was very narrow. Narrower than Keen or Hoka Medium width. Second, the top of the shoe does not wrap far enough around the ankle, so pressure is put on the side of the calf. I don't have super wide calves. This shoe is completely misdesigned. Third, the heels seemed too soft compared to the middle and the front of the shoe. I took for granted that most shoes are farther along in their design iteration. Altra, you lost me. This is an expensive product that has not been thoroughly thought out.

I've been wearing Altra shoes for hiking for many years, and these are definitely not up to what I am used to. They are OK for short hikes, but wear them for anything longer than 15 miles and you are guaranteed to get blisters. If you are on a multi day hike you might lose a few toenails. The shoe is too narrow, in particular on the outside of the foot, and the shell is pretty rigid causing a lot of pressure on the toes and leading to blisters developing quickly.

Design flaw: divots and prominent sharps where the high-top support joins to the lower shoe around the tongue grommet. Painful! on both sides Malleoli. Wish this site let us expand. Olympus 5 GTX mid.

After owning these just over a month, the tread delaminated. Very poor design/construction. The shoes have only seen 10 to 15 miles of light hiking terrain. I've owned at least 25 to 30 pairs of Altras over the years, and with these being the most expensive they are the biggest disappointment.

Purchased the MEN'S OLYMPUS 5 HIKE MID GTX while traveling out of state. Ankle support was needed and I was excited that this shoe/boot offered that stability. After several days of wearing these boots inside my home, I ventured out for training. Two short walk/runs (less than 3 miles) on asphalt, sidewalks, and dirt track. The third time I laced up and while walking to my starting place, I tripped and realized that the shoe lace on the left shoe/boot got caught on the lace hook of the right shoe/boot and ripped the seam of the mid-top completely apart. This is definitely a design flaw and now I am without a supportive shoe/boot and most importantly the $220.00 plus tax that this shoe/boot cost me. It is especially unfortunate that these shoes/boots were worn only two times and on the third time while leaving for training, this disaster occurred. The store manager where these shoes/boots were purchased sent an inquiry to Altra and after two weeks finally got a reply stating that this is not a manufacturing issue and that a Warranty Claim could be submitted. A warranty claim was submitted and the response was denied as well. Although other review reports with similar shoe lace tripping problems have been posted, I am hoping that the ALTRA Care Team will check the photos and see that this was truly a design flaw.

Bought a pair and the tread fell off after a few times wearing them. Altra customer service sent me a new pair and the same thing happened. Sent them back and tried a different colorsame thing. 3 pair of these boots and all the tread has come off after just a few times wearing them. Never had a problem with running shoes, but these boots are a no go.

I've purchased 4 pairs of shoes from Altra. Three of the four have had excessive wear around the ankles. Cheap material! This company could do a great job if they used better materials. Also the bottom of one of my shoes has the rubber falling off. Too much money for this level of Quality.

I won't restate what others have already said in their review except to reinforce the point that the design defect in the connection between the ankle and tongue makes these unwearable from day 1. Perhaps if you had a very thick sock you might not notice. Unfortunate as it's a beautiful boot. If you fix it, I will buy it.

I am a Search and Rescue Dog trainer and hike daily with my dogs on all kinds of terrain. We average 8 miles a day. The tread on the bottom came ungled after only 9 days of use. I contacted customer service with pictures and they said that this is normal wear and tear. I have put over 500+ miles on my hoka speedgoats and adidas terrex and theirs tread remain solid. I am very dissapointed.

I bought these shoes for hiking here in Henderson, NV. I am training 2 search and rescue dogs, so we hike daily on gromed trails and off trail rocky environments. After 9 days of use, the outer tread on one shoe came detatched. Warranty will not cover because they said this is normal. I hike with Hoka Speedgoats and Adidas Terrex over 500+ miles in each and the tread has not failed.

Disappointed that the description doesn't mention leather. No material tag on actual shoes or box. Upon arrival these are definitely leather though clearly labeling the materials is typically commonplace, this was a real bummer.

My wife and I have had several pairs of Altras and they've been really great. (I currently have 5, not sure how many she has.) We were really looking forward to these and could not have been more disappointed. If I hadn't ordered them direct from Altra I wouldn't have believed they were made by the same company, I would have assumed I had gotten a cheap counterfeit knock-off. Some other reviews had indicated that their quality control was slipping on these. I should have listened, because judging by these it's long gone. I honestly cannot remember when I've seen shoes that were so obviously made in the cheapest way with the cheapest materials.
