Tried these on at a local shop when I originally went in to try on a pair of Danners. The cushioning was so comfortable, I ended up buying the Altras instead. However, I wish I would have read some reviews first. After wearing them on their maiden hike, I quickly realized that the tongue bit into my ankles so badly that they were extremely uncomfortable. This seems to be a common issue for a lot of reviewers. Also not sure I love the toe box shape for rocky climbs as they are rounded and don't give me as much support on the posterior side of the toe grip. Wanted to like these, but the ankle issue is a big problem.

As others have mentioned, the part where the tongue connects to the rest of the boot painfully digs into your ankle. Unfortunately I can't even wear them. They're a little tight across the top of my toes as well. Everything else is good though, so they just need to fix those 2 things

I bought these to wear during the winter because I loved my mid top Olympus 5 so much. I've had these about a week now and like others have mentioned the soul is starting to peel from the back. I don't think I have over five walking miles in them and it's been mostly inside. I want to love them so bad they are comfortable and fit my foot but I just cannot justify the cost for something that falls apart so quick.

The tongue killed my ankle. Didn't have them very long. I want to like these. Hope they make the improvements in the tongue. My feet felt a little tighter in the shoe but I'm sure that's for support. I will buy again if improvements are made. I like the idea of Gortex and Vibram. I'm an avid altra supporter. They work best with my feel. Own 6 pair.

The good: I found this shoe to fit ok. The weather resistant is accurate. Water resistant if in and out quick. The Bad: I found the lasses to short and they slip. Must double knot. Product ok.

I hiked two 14ers out of the box. Shoes were super comfortable, had excellent, but we're very hot. Since the shoes are not very breathable my feet were drenched and blistered by .75 miles in. Temperatures were around 50 degrees. I wore the same smart wool socks I have used in my other goretex hikers with no prior issues. Love how comfortable these are, but I'll need to return for a non goretex option. I own the Lobe Peak 7's and Olympus 5's and love them, yet have not tested durability or longevity yet.

The ankle seem is a killer! I love the fit and feel and to overcome the ankle issue I modified the seem and they are much better... for this price it's not good I had to modify to make it unbearable. Once I wear these out I'll try them again so please correct the problem.

I think they are a great day hiker if u have narrow feet or dont mind your toes crunched a little if u have wide feet. A 55 year old out of shape friend of mine had her altra soles unglue after about a week and I bought a very nice pair of boots and about 3 months later I was glueing them back together no idea why this is happening with shoes today. I have 10 year old moabs with a 1000 maybe 2000 miles on them that don't have even a speck on them unglued. I do like Altra, but my wide toe box loving feet very sadly had too send them back.

Love the wide toe box and its water resistance. Love my Lone Peak shoes & wanted to wear around on days with weather. Downsides are weight & the top eyelets are a tripping hazard, stick out far.

I like to hike quite a bit. I've hiked in Colorado and Moab and used my North Face hiking shoes. They are low tops. So, I was excited to try the Altra mids back at some trails near my home in Missouri. The trails were leaf covered and rocky, but not terribly different as far as elevation. The Altra's were a bit tight on the inside of my ankles on each shoe. After loosening up the top laces, that seemed to correct the fit. They were pretty comfortable on the trail. I did notice the spots on each ankle starting to rub a bit after about an hour of walking. I did have on mid-thick socks which I think helped. When I went down a particularly steep portion of the trail, my toes really scrunched into the toe box which was uncomfortable. The toe box is quite roomy on these which is nice on flat portions, but I wouldn't want to do steep hikes in these for very long at all. If you're doing trail running on fairly flat trails, these would be great. I'd hesitate to buy these if you are hiking hilly or mountainous areas. They aren't waterproof. For a $200+ pair of hiking shoes, I'm not sure I'd buy these, especially since I want a shoe I can wear in any locale. For that reason, I wouldn't recommend these to friends or family. My $80 North Face hiking shoes are much more comfortable. That's too bad, because I really wanted to like these. Not sure the style is my cup of tea either. They kind of look like snow boots, but I wouldn't wear them in the snow since they aren't waterproof.

I recently returned from an 8-day backpacking trip in the Escalante region of southern Utah. During the strenuous hike, the Olympus 5 Hike Mid GTX brown in color boot performed admirably. It was comfortable, I loved the cushion that put much less stress on my achy knees, and the traction was excellent in all kinds of conditions. It remained waterproof throughout the trip, and remarkably, seemed to shed mud and dirt and remain looking good. So, during the trip, the boot performed admirably and met my expectations. However, two days after the trip ended, and while I was still wearing the boots en route back home, I noticed that two of the treads had partially detached from the bottom of the boot. Thank goodness that did not happen during the hike itself. I got in touch with Altra, and I was pleased with the customer service. They have sent me a new pair of boots, and I am in hopes that this pair will have better longevity. I have been an Altra customer for a number of years, buying a number of pair of running shoes, primarily the Olympus trail running line, and I have always been pleased with the cushion, fit, and performance of the shoe. I am in hopes that Altra can fix the tread issue with their hiking boot because otherwise it is a great boot.

THE SHOES ARE BIG, THEY ARE ALSO VERY LIGHT. I KNOW HIKING SHOES SHOULDNT BE HEAVY BUT THESE FEEL LIKE IT IS TO LIGHT. I NEED TO FEEL THE WEIGHT OF THE SHOES TO GET GOOD TRACTION.

Got these boots for the white mountains for a weekend trip. Grips on bottom came off and basically broke during the hike. Sent back for a return about 2 weeks ago. Waiting on a reply. Would not buy again

I have used these for hiking and volunteer trail work (PCTA). They fit fine, but they're stiff and uncomfortable on the ankles, inadequate flexibility - I was eager to get them off after a day of trail work. I wish Asolo would make a wide shoe - they were my go-to shoe until my feet started spreading out; otherwise they were the best hikers I ever had.

Poor fit and unpleasing design. Hard to put on and take off. Clunky. I returned them.

Less than 10 light hikes in these and the sole is already peeling. Pull tab, which appears to be bar-tacked, but is actually only glued, has also pulled out. I'd love these if not for the QC issues.

Love these boots, I have them in tan/orange and in blue/white. After 7 months of splitting miles between the two, they are both shredded. I use these as my go to for wildlife photography. No running. The various layers are separating and the heels are coming unglued. One pair is no longer water resistant.

How can Altra possibly think pink and purple or mauve is sand. That is the worst color I've ever seen. Great for a certain segment of society but don't call it "sand" I dyed them black. Very unhappy with that false description Why did you get rid of the Tushar. Even if then didn't last I'd buy ten pairs and cycle through them. Either way a few months of hiking these boots will need typical replacement soon enough

I love all of my Altra's. I was excited to try these. They are extremely comfortable except for the seams right at the ankle bone. Please let me know when you fix this. I look forward to buying them.

I am Asian. For the first time, I tried on these light and fluffy hiking shoes. I am very satisfied with the function and size of the shoes. However, due to the low adhesive durability of the soles, the soles began to fall off two days after a long-distance hike. If the adhesion durability of the soles improves, I am willing to buy them over and over again throughout my life. Developers must improve the adhesion durability of soles.

The fabric where the tong meets the side of the boot rubs your ankle if you tie them tight enough to descend a steep trail. If you tie them loose it's fin but then your foot slips and smashes your toe into the end of the shoe. I have worn Olympus 5 regulars and they are my favorite shoe you needed up badly in the high top gtx model. Never again.

As I stepped in these shoes i felt a "catching" sensation; turned the shoe-up and realized the sole glue wore off. Bought the shoe Nov 18, 2022. I dont hike. Just pure pedestrian use.

I purchased this shoe for hiking and trail running. Shoe fits great but the ankle pain and rubbing forced me to return. Really like the shoe, please redesign the upper, needs to be softer.
