These are the most comfortable shoe I have now. They allow lots of room for crooked toes and med weight socks. I'm an elder and I go fast in these.

Several short trail runs. Feels great. Great transition shoe.

I can absolutely attest that this shoe is a strong continuation of the Escalante line. The pictures here show that the dimensions are near identical to my old 2.5. I can't yet speak to durability, but the fit is nearly identical. I hesitated to buy the Escalante 3 for months because of reviews that discussed differences from the 2.5 and wish I hadn't. Those reviews are not accurate.

Beautiful-looking shoes. I think they are nicer than my Altra Provision 7s. They are springy and feel great. I primarily use them for walking/casual wear.

Extremely comfortable shoes for walking , I would highly recommend, and they do not tilt you forward but instead place you in your natural skeletal posture.

This is, I think, my 4th pair of Escalantes. As with most Altras, they fit my wide, flat feet pretty well. Cushioning is good. I have less than 100 miles on this pair, so I can't speak to their durability yet, but of late Altras seem to have improved on that score, as I have gotten well over 500 miles out of each of my last 3 pairs of Escalantes.

This is an excellent lightweight running shoe. I really like the comfort and fit. The low drop increased my foot turnover.

I have run in every iteration of the Escalante. A purist. I understand some folks critique of the changes, but 100 miles in I'm still a believer. Stable, more reponsive still fits like Altra. Love it!

This is my 3rd pair of Escalantes. I started with the 2.5 and put 750 miles on them before retiring them. Now I have two pair of Escalante 3s. I run 200+ miles a month so I rotate my shoes. I also run in Provision 4s. I recently ran my first 50k ultra marathon in Escalante 3s and they were great. My feet were fine. There is room in the forefoot for my feet to expand during the race. I find the Escalantes a more comfortable fit than the more narrow Provision 4s. I get over 500 miles in each pair before I demote them to shorter runs.

great fit, lovely toe box, took some getting used to as it was a zero drop shoe. Now that I have adjusted I love them so much.

My first Altra road shoe was the Torin 5, which I found too soft. The Escalante's provide just enough cushion while still allowing me to feel the running surface. Great feel right out of the box!

I work in healthcare and these shoes are exactly what I need. They are light, comfortable, and look cool! The only issue I have is that the tips of your toes will get wet even if there is the slightest amount of water on the ground, but I'll take the tradeoff.

I liked how comfortable these shoes were. I wore them all day long and forgot that they were even on my feet at the end of the night. They provide excellent cushioning to the front and back of my feet evenly. The only thing I would change is the width in the front where my toes go. There's too much room where my big toe goes. Aside from that, these shoes kept up with me when running, walking, hiking, climbing and even when my wife wanted to go on long shopping sprees.

I have been a fan of Altra running shoes for years and I really liked the Escalante 3 as soon as I saw and put them on. My first run was an 5K and they felt great. I could feel the cushioning, not too little, not too much, just right. They definitely helped me to run more on my mid-foot which reduced fatigue. Toe area felt great with just enough room but not too much to create blisters. I wore them casually a few times outside of running and had no issues. Overall I would give them 5 stars and highly recommend.

Been using Escalante, went through several 1.5's, followed by 2.5's. My first 3.0 and I hopefully see many more in the future. The most notable change from the 2.5 to 3.0 on an already great show, to me is for the better: the tongue is now padded with cushion and provides less pressure on my upper foot from the tying of laces. The 2.5 tongue amounted to just a piece of fabric and I would at times struggle trying to have the foot feel secure in the shoe without tying tight enough with the cinching of the laces and then feel pressure on my upper foot. The 3.0's padded tongue really helps lock the foot in place in the shoe without as much pressure on the top of the foot. Love this change.
Also improved with the 3.0, the laces aren't too long as I found in the previous models. I had to triple knot my 2.5's to not have the laces touching thre ground.
The slight negative I will note with the 3.0 is the change in traction on the outsole, it really seems to attract a collection of tiny rocks that I never had an issue with on previous models. If you're exclusively paved roads, maybe it's never an issue. But on finely crushed gravel trails, expect to attract some souvenirs of your travels, at least until the outsole wears enough that the tiny channels disappear.
Overall though, super happy with the evolution of the Escalante!

I switched to these as I found a recently purchased pair of New Balance Fuel Cell's to be too heavy for playing pickleball. The NB slowed me up significantly on the court. Changing to the Escalante 3 gave me the speed and mobility I was looking for due to their light weight and comfort. I am delighted with this sneaker for a sport that they probably were not designed for, and will purchase again in the future.

The first time I stepped into these shoes it felt slightly odd. Then I got used to the feel within minutes. They are very comfortable. I have had many pairs of Nike running shoes and the feel of these is way more preferred for that reason. I wear a 7.5 in Nikes and my pair of Escalante 3's I am wearing an 8. There is room in the toes which isn't a problem for me so they appear to near true to size.

I got these shoes just in time to put them to work on a trip halfway around the around the world. From the beginning, they fit like a nice, comfy pair of socks. For a barefoot runner, these offer a little extra cushion for rougher trails, and some extra warmth for cooler weather. From there, they traveled with me to the Philippines where they proved themselves over the next two weeks for everything from a casual shopping trip, to treks in the mountains to harvest fresh coconuts! Cushion stretches from the heel, out to the end of the big toe, but rolls away under the rest of the toes leaving you balanced on the balls of your feet and feeling like you're ready to take off with every step. Shoes were warm enough for Fall in South Dakota, but breathed easily in the sweltering heat of the Philippines. Only thing I could ask for is more ankle support, but Altra makes plenty of other models that may work better for running in the types of conditions I've put these through.. These are best for smoother trails or for road running, but the extra lacing hole options worked well to maintain a good fit, and ensure I didn't have to worry about blisters.

It felt like I had nothing on loved how light they were but was taken back by how different it feels when you walk in them as a opposed to my regular shoes the only issue was that they run a bit small for me

I was in the market for a new pair of Altras and I almost did not purchase the Escalante 3s because of all the negative reviews. I read comments about the shoes being EXTREMELY narrow, the upper being really stiff, the cushioning feeling like HOKAs, etc. Pretty much everything bad that could have been said about these shoes was said. I decided to go to a local running store to try them on myself. I was suprised that the shoes felt quite good. They were very wide, the cusioning was resposive and somewhat minimal (I frequently run over 13 miles so I like to have some cushion but not too much), and the upper was not too stretchy. I bought a pair and have run about 50 miles in the shoes and I love them almost as much as my Lone Peaks. The people who gave these shoes 1 star did not buy the shoes!!!! They feel just as wide as my Lone Peaks (which have the original footshape fit) and they have felt really good to run in. I ran a half marathon today and my feet felt great. I can activate the muscles in my feet with no issue.
Overall this is a great shoe. Maybe some people had bad experiences but there is no reason there should be almost as many 1 star reviews as 5 star reviews. End of story, I hope this helped.

Having been a Mizuno Waverider fan for the past 10 years I was skeptical about making a change. When given the chance to try a pair out, I was cautious. Having logged thousands of miles on my Mizunos; to say I was set in my ways would have been an understatement! I am surprised to report the Altra Escalante 3's just became my new go to running shoe! Right off the bat I noticed that the foot shape was wider in the toe area than I was used to. This turned out to be just what I needed. This extra space is what I needed. Think, going from a coach airplane seat to a first class one. Lots of room to spread out. My first run was short as I wanted to ease myself into the shoes and not shock my feet with a different cushion than I was used to. After having a pleasant experience, I had my mind made up that these were good for the long haul. They have been my daily runners for a few weeks now, and relegated my Waveriders to lawn duty! I would absolutely recommend the Escalante 3's to any avid runner.

I've heard a lot about Altra's and had friends and family who run in them, but I hadn't yet tried a pair myself until this pair of Escalante 3s. I was very impressed with the comfort of the shoe. They're definitely a different shape, and the toe box is wide, yet not too big. The zero drop between the heel and toe also took some getting used to, and after a long walk, my calves would be pretty sore, as if I'd done a workout. I have plantar fasciitis, and these shoes didn't irritate it at all. I didn't even have to use my arch support inserts.

Best version of the escalante to date. 2.5s were too soft and I think that was causing my feet soreness. Any way Altra can copy the lower section of this, tread pattern and cushion, onto the Escalante Racer?

These might be the most comfortable shoes I have ever worn! This is a new brand for me, having been loyal to Nike and New Balance for years, and these are my new go to running and walking shoes. The wide toe box is a game changer - most running shoes squeeze my feet but these provide a ton of room and comfort. The sole provides a ton of cushion and just enough bounce. I wear a size 10 and they are very true to size. Seriously try these shoes!
