It's my first pair of goretex Salomon's and while the waterproofing capability is perfect, the design of this shoe is lacking. The collar of the show itself was raised from the last pair of x-ultras, and it rubbed TERRIBLY against my ankle bone. I was bruised for a week and it actually hurt to walk in them. I'm not sure if they're broken in finally or if I just stopped lacing them tightly. Also, as a lot of other reviews said- the tongue keeps slipping to the side. It makes it quite difficult to lace the shoes up and tuck the quick laces in. If these issues could be remedied it would be a fantastic shoe. I also ordered a pair of the non-waterproof x-ultra's so I'll find out about that soon.

I bought these shoes a month ago - it's been difficult to say these are comfortable. I bought my usual size and the length is right but the toe box is huge.. it makes it feel like it's impossible to tighten up and the shoe always feels like it's slipping.
Wish they had a more normal toe box size

I like everything about these shoes- except for the tongue, which slips down towards the toe on my walks. My last pairs of solomon's didn't have that problem. I bought the new pair because my other pairs' bottoms had worn down and I needed something with better traction on snowy/ icy sidewalks and roads.

These boots looked and fit great and the bottoms looked like they would have great ice traction...BUT...there is no lining covering the stitching inside the top of the toe box, so it felt very rough. The rest of the shoe is well-padded and seems very well made. But this small area of stitching rubbed very uncomfortably on the top of my feet, so the shoes didn't work for me.

Have had of Salomon X Ultra in the past and was pleased to purchase the new ULTRA 4 with improved features. Comfortable shoes however within a few months the heel padding had worn away. I contacted Salomon who gave me a voucher to use for another pair. I have continued to wear the shoes and after a few more months the top of the shoe where the fabric is, has split across the top causing two holes to form and water now gets in. For the money they have not lasted and are disappointing

I bought these last august and within 2 months, the cushioning around both ankles had rubbed away to reveal the inner sponge. I wear these for everyday use, and they are my 3rd pair. However the new design looks great initially but now look very shabby. This never happened previously.

After a minute of walking the tongue goes to the side and is very uncomfortable. no mater how many times I would reposition it, it won't stay where it should. The design must be wrong. See the pictures and ware on the side of the tongue as is always rubbing against the shoe laces. I really like this shoes, they are super comfortable it's just this tongue so annoying.

I LOVED the Salomon X Ultra 3 Low GTX. Fabulous hiking shoe. Easy on/off, great feel on the trail. But after hundreds of miles they were wearing out. So I got these X Ultra 4. Oh my, like a totally different shoe. The worst part is that the tongue will not stay in place no matter what I did. It's got some sort of weird stretch fabric piece in the center above the tongue, which makes it harder to put on. I don't know if that's what causes the tongue to move or not. On the left foot the tongue scrunches down forming a painful fold at base of toes. On the right shoe the tongue moves way over to the right and is painful. They're going back. :(

I bought these shoes in September, they are comfortable but sadly are not waterproof.I need non slip and comfort, which they are, but they are no good to me if my feet get wet.

Once I put these on, I didn't want to take them off. Great all day support for hiking 4Ks or concrete sidewalks. A roomy toe box is perfect for those bothered by bunions or neuromas. True arch support and quick laces.

Nice footwear. I dind't get any blisters with it. But the goretex is really weak. 1h hiking in rain and they are leaking. But i am unsure if this is also widefit because the model i get from Europe was labled on the shoe as widefit and they arent labeld.

Comfortable from the first wear. Warm and dry in wet weather. Just one small issue - have to hang onto shoe tongue when putting on shoe, or it pushes in with foot.

Bought these hiking shoes before traveling to a National Park. Without even breaking them in, they were very comfortable and provided good support. On all the uneven terrain, these shoes offered excellent gripping capability. They were surely a worthwhile purchase.

Comfortable out of the box. Love the easy lacing - adjusts in a second. Sturdy but not too heavy. Love these hiking shoes!

I recently took my new Salomon X ULTRA 4 GORE-TEX hiking shoes on a 10-hour hike, and they were fantastic! The fit was perfect for my size 6.5 US feet, offering great support and comfort throughout the entire trek. Despite the challenging terrain and a few unexpected water crossings, my feet stayed completely dry thanks to the excellent waterproofing. The shoes provided superb grip and stability, which made navigating rocky and uneven paths a breeze. Overall, I couldn't be happier with these hiking shoesthey're comfortable, waterproof, and performed exceptionally well during my long hike. Highly recommended!

Wore this good looking trail shoe around the house for awhile with and without orthotics. The shoe is made well, , but the arch on my left foot never felt right. I returned the shoes.

I purchased the Salomon X Ultra 4 Wide Gore-Tex shoes in a size 7.5 to wear on our vacation in Maine for general hiking and one mountain hike. I couldn't find a wide waterproof shoe locally, so based on the reviews I took a chance and ordered these. I'm so glad I did. Maine had two late storms and Mount Chase was blanked in deep snow up to 18" deep! It was warm and sunny, so the snow was melting underneath and my new Salomon's sloshed through, often breaking through to the mud or melted snow below. The dirty girl gaiters kept chunks of snow out, so my feet only got a little wet when they were briefly submerged in water. Pair that with a pair of darn tough socks, and you've got a winning combination.
How is the Width?: I cut a bright orange piece of paper to match the widest part of the shoe and it measured 3.5". With the paper under my foot viewed from above, it isn't visible at all unless I lean slightly left or right. These shoes are the perfect width for me. I hope that helps you decide if these are the right width for you.
Comfort? I had more room in the shoes than I have with any others, so at first, I wondered if my feet would slide a bit and perhaps cause blisters. I was on my feet for over 9 hours that first day and my feet did not hurt at all! They were very comfortable.
Laces? I appreciated this style of laces because they don't come untied.
Sole? There were some steep places on Mount Chase where I had to kick the snow with my toe to get a grip and climb higher. These shoes performed beautifully for this mid-50's Florida native who had no idea she would appreciate the grippy outsole so much!
I have never written such a detailed review, but I appreciate the design of these shoes so much and wanted to share. I highly recommend them!

I bought this a few weeks ago and wear it primarily for extended trail walks with my dog. The shoes give excellent stability, grip, and are comfortable, albeit they may be a little stiff for the first couple uses. The rapid lace system is very convenient and they look great. I have narrow feet, wear EU 39 in regular shoes, and ordered US8/EUR40 because I prefer a little extra toe room in runners. They fit me perfectly.
