I have wide metatarsals and low arch. The Xhike1's worked for me after a SOLID break in and softening up of the material. These out the box have a good width/length/arch for me. I'm not taking them on hikes but moderate activity on the range. I like the look and I'll use these over the speed assault 2's which suck now. Now the bad. I agree with another reviewer here that said the quick lace does not provide a secure heel fit without becoming painfully tight on the tendons for the last 2 crossings. There's not enough padding on the tongue to prevent the lace from really digging. If you don't tighten them then the heel floats while walking. The upper portion of the tongue; the ONLY part that's padded does want to stick out and be a debris collector. They changed the insoles from their standard ortholites to something else that looks like a thin layer of foam. I don't know what it is but sucks and has no cushion. I took the ortholites from another pair of Solomon's and it feels more comfortable.
A somewhat fix is that If I take the take the top end of the lace with the fastener and loop it under the last crossing then I can tighten the laces enough to keep my heel in place and not strangulate my ankle flesh. Changing the insole and playing with the laces for better fit makes the shoe way better for me. If I didn't change those 2 things then these would not be comfortable.

A little disappointed. This new version has the same lose ankle as the original version which still offers very minimal support. I have the correct size for me and my heal constantly slips in these. I can't get them tight enough to run in comfortably. They would be ok for light hikes. I'll stick with the Speedcross.

Bought these a month ago looking for a lightweight, water repellent shoe for New York City rain days and while the shoe looks great it does not perform as advertised. The very first day I wore them, it rained, my socks were wet. I think these will be my last pair of Salomons as they continue to disappoint. Also, the BOA lace does not stay secured and loosens easily just from walking (haven't tried running in them yet). I have the Black XA Alpine 2 Advance.

These are the 4th pair I have owned. So safe to say I am a fan. The first 3 pairs fit straight out of the box, were warm and incredibly comfortable. Unfortunately the design has changed. The exact same size is tight across the big toe, is not as warm and pinches around the ankle. Why oh why did you change these shoes??

Having worn only Salomon for years I have found these severely lacking in comfort! I had the previous Crosshike and they were very comfortable but these are nowhere near as comfortable.

On the top end these boots at lightweight, breathable, nimble and fantastic traction from an aggressive sole. I bought the boot over the Salomon trail hiker "out-pulse" because I wanted ankle support. These boots provide minimal to none. The one anchor point on the top of the boot does not provide enough purchase for the lace to snug itself up. The result is really loose fitting which feels like I am wearing a the low cut trail shoe after all.
I am surprised that this boot made it into production as a ankle supporting shoe, at this stage of its development it's not. Perhaps the next edition will come with two anchor points for the laces or something similar and if this happens I would be more than happy to try another pair. These boots could have been epic, but they fall well short of the mark.

These fit and feel great. However the elastic at the top of the tongue meant to secure the laces is garbage. The lace end and slider fall out easily and end up flopping all over the place. I haven't worn them yet that the laces don't end up flopping everywhere after an hour or so.

I have had the speed cross 5 w and have loved them and been very pleased with the durability. Purchased these expecting to be as pleased and to be honest the only plus about them is that they are pretty waterproof. The youngest never fails to find its way out from under a pant leg, the durability really sucks on these. Started getting holes in the mesh and the rubber sole started separating within a month and they do not sell a wide so I had to upsize. I would not purchase these again.

Can't change my old review so here's an update. Routing the laces for a tighter fit did not work over longer duration. Gets loose because the rest of the laces not being tight creat slack in the higher tighter crossings. Heel starts floating and the "mid-cut" portion of the shoes that should hug and support the ankles get loose and no longer do that. I want to give these a chance to maybe break in more and get more flexible. Maybe they'll fit better but it doesn't seem like it. Disappointing shoe. Looks good but doesn't feel good or secure.

Don't be fooled by the aggressive styling, these aren't winter shoes, they're quite slippery on ice and packed snow. They aren't specifically billed as winter shoes but I thought they might be perfect. These seem like their best (and only) use is sloppy, wet trails. I love the Speedcross shoes, easily my favorite trail runners and I've gone through probably 14 pairs. These seem like a beefier -but needless- upgrade. The quicklace system doesn't really tighten the upper portion of the shoe, leading to a sensation of wearing high-tops that aren't laced up all the way. Also usually Speedcross shoes have an ortholite sole but these don't seem to? Or they just don't brand them as such anymore? I'd stick with the regular Speedcross shoes in the future; there really wasn't any aspect of these shoes that made them worth the extra money.

After about 5 short hikes of 2-6 miles the glue is failing and the rubber is pulling away. Also this model just doesn't hold your foot in place on slopes and hills. I love the ultra models, but these are not quality boots.

After 2 months of wear on these shoes I'm extremely disappointed with my purchase. The most frustrating part is that they're so close to actually being a great shoe. The rigidity in the sole, heel and top of the foot is spot on and feels agile and light on the trail, especially for a mid foot striker like me. However, as has been mentioned throughout these reviews, the lack of ankle support and poorly designed upper make this shoe nearly unwearable. The top laces are anchored far too low and are either biting uncomfortably into the tongue when laced tight, or loosely clinging to the upper and unable to be tucked in. Because of this I find myself constantly picking out debris that sneak in from the top and am constantly relacing to find a more comfortable position to no avail. The result feels like a low top trail running shoe masquerading as a mid height hiking boot. This could be a cool concept but the execution is poor and these will probably live in my closet till I can pawn them off to a friend as I look for a new hiking shoe elsewhere.

Overall the boots looked ok, they fit a bit tight but because of the lace system not being as tight as regular laces I thought it would be good. I wore them on a hike and by the end they were really hurting my feet. I then realized that Salomon had shipped my size 8 instead of 8.5... Otherwise the quality looked good, but I really didn't like the lacing system, it didn't hold your foot tight and if you didn't tuck the lace in right it was annoying.

Not under warranty but I would like to send them back anyway. I was looking for the Ultra 3; but this mid just did not feel comfortable on the foot. I wore them with inserts, different socks and walked between 5 and 8 miles. I just would not feel comfortable backpacking with this boot. I have the mid 4 ultra a bit clunky; but they fit.

I have worn them about 20 times. I was trying to replace the ultra mid 3. But I went back to the mid 4 that I bought. They will stay in my closet. They look like they have cushion; but I feel every step. I don't care for the lacing. Probably easy to fix in a lab, as the video shows; but how about a glacier with 80 mph winds.

The top lace anchor tor away from the boot the first tine I cinched them up. Probably the anchor needs to be riveted all the way through the last kf the boot.

Medium width is much more narrow than other shoes and I was informed that Solomon doesn't make wide width.

I have owned 10 pair of Salomon shoes and they are the only brand I buy. This is the most narrow shoe I have ever worn. Feels like a rock climbing shoe with no room in the toe box. The speed lace does not do a good job closing the upper portion of the shoe. Disappointed with this purchase.
