Treated myself to a LL Bean warm hooded coat, and my husband wanted a similar one. I purchased this style with the hood for him. He loves his new jacket because he looks great in it, and the jacket is well made and warm.

I live in Minnesota. This is a quality parka and the warmest garment I have ever worn. It runs a little large, but that allows for plenty of elbow room and layering, although you won't need much. I love the large, fleece lined zip up collar: It keeps out the elements, yet it doesn't restrict movement. The waistline drawstring cinches up best when it us done before putting on the parka. This is an excellent piece of winter wear! Well done L.L. Bean!

I bought this coat to replace the Bean Gor-tex coat that my father bought in the mid 1970s when he was working in Alaska. I've been wearing it since the late 80s, and this winter the zipper went out. I guess they just don't make them like they used to.
The Baxter State Parka is a good coat. It's much puffier than my old gor-tex, and a few inches longer. The old coat had an inner elastic waist band that could be snapped. The Baxter has no waist band, but instead it has a drawstring in the bottom hem that can be cinched. It works to prevent drafts coming up from below, but it also -- especially with the longer cut -- impedes leg movement slightly. That's a minor complaint, but one worth noting. So far, I have not felt chilled in this coat -- and when I went out snowshoeing I got pretty sweaty.
If I'm not still wearing this in the 2050s, I intend to come back and redo my rating.

This is the warmest jacket my husband ever had. He like it so much when the zipper finally gave out, we sent it back for repair and bought another one.

This is an excellent coat that keeps you warm in the coldest, wettest, windiest winter weather conditions. It is not cheap, but QUALITY rarely is. Worth the price.

I love the coat as its super warm and very tough on the outside with the TEK material. I also jokingly say, if its good enough for all of Channel 8 in New Haven, its great enough for me.

Best Parka I've ever owned. I like all the pockets. It's wind resistant and water resistant. I buy clothes from LL Bean regularly and have never been disappointed.

This parka is not only super warm, but the outer layer also is very wind resistant. I got it in black, and it looks really great. This is definitely the warmest coat that I've ever owned, and I've had quite a few over my nearly 70 years of roaming outdoors in cold New England winters. I saw some comments about the fit being inaccurate, but I usually wear a 2X large and that's what I ordered, and it fit me just right. The only negative I would say is about the zipper, as many others have commented on. Although the zipper works ok, I think it should be a bit beefier for a $300 parka, but this certainly isn't bad enough to drop my rating to 4 stars. You can't go wrong with this parka.

No use yet, read accordingly...
Zipper is finicky & not confidence-inspiring; useable; counting on LLB to replace if/when needed. 11 pockets=>wonderful! Very warm. Bordering on heavy but OK. Very comfy fit for overweight oldster. Expecting this to last rest of my lifetime (at age 67).

GREAT -
i am 5' 6" x 185 pounds,
purchased XL REGULAR and the fit is excellent
do not like a tight fit and like to wear a shirt and sweater under the parka.

This is a heavy warm coat - great for extremely cold days here in New England. It's slightly longer than regular coats and covers backside and upper legs, which makes a nice difference in warmth. Large warm hood too.

Great jacket, good fit, reasonably stylish, very lightweight, nice, premium material, has held up at temperatures below 20 degrees fahrenheit. You can wear a t-shirt underneath and still be warm even under 20 degrees fahrenheit although you might want a scarf or something to block the wind.

It took me a few weeks before I removed the tags. When I first put it on, kind of felt like I was swimming in it. Had mixed feelings. Went with a Medium Tall mainly because things are short on me in some way most times. Not this! Arm is perfect length. Decided it was time to write this review because I'm visiting Pittsburgh, PA today & it's low 20's with whipping wind & this coat has kept me WARM. I'm okay with feeling a bit enveloped in this thing since it's doing the job I wanted it for. My only annoyance is the feathers keep coming out of it. Not a fan having to pluck them off me. Was this a valid purchase to make? Absolutely. The bonus for this Parka is the pockets that seem endless. I read other reviews with complaints on the outer front pockets being too far down. I beg to differ. I find it perfect length when resting my hands inside them as I walk. The hood can keep you warm. I would only use it in an extreme cold emergency.
