I have been looking for years for a coat for my husband. I couldn't get rid of his old one until I could find a replacement. My husband loves pockets and this one is the only one with 7 pockets. Living in Colorado, he needed a warm winter coat for all the snows we have received. He finally let me get rid of the old ratty coat he was wearing.

Bought this for our son. He really likes it. Fits well, very warm, plenty of pockets, drawstring in middle to cinch it up for cold windy weather.

Great coat, super warm and fits great. I would highly recommend the parka for those cold windy snow blowing days of winter.

I ordered the tall size and the fit was as the size chart indicated. I am impressed with the quality of the coat, the construction and the design.

This coat is really, really warm. The weather has been pretty mild in Missouri, and I've only had a few days I could even wear it. I unzipped the fur ruff and will save it for blizzard conditions.... A day of unfrozen precipitation proved the waterproof quality was excellent, with the drops rolling off. The collar is well-stuffed and stands up to keep the wind off the neck, too. The inner cuffs in the sleeves fit close without being tight and the lining is smooth enough to slip it on easily.
I bought the regular XXL, and it is longer than I expected. I have a long torso and long arms, and the sleeves go clear down to my gloves and the tail pretty much covers my bum. After finding and adjusting the cinch cords, it fits close and keeps the wind out. Lotsa pockets, too.
On the down side (ha ha!), it is a pretty heavy coat and so bulky it is hard to squash into the little airport x-ray tray. There are so many zippers and pockets I get confused and lose track of stuff. As mentioned by others, the handwarmer pockets are pretty low, but easily reachable. Getting the double-ended zipper started is a bit fiddly, but not bad with practice, and it actually works both ways, unlike many I have dealt with.
Overall, this is likely the best parka I'll ever own. Maybe I'll come back in about 10 years and let you know how it holds up.

I am quite pleased with this winter parka. I had it for a few weeks now and have had the opportunity to wear it in the mid to upper teens as well as in freezing rain/sleet/snow conditions. I have to say that its warmth does not disappoint. I am happy with the XL size though wonder how the L would have fit me based on some comments from similarly sized reviewers. If I am out walking to dog, salting the driveway, or whatever, this is my "Go To" coat. No need to layer underneath. For me, the pockets could be better designed, as well as the drawstring adjuster that is somewhat hidden in the chest pockets. But other than some minor quirks, I am so happy that I bought this coat especially when it was on sale. For milder conditions, I have a lighter puffer jacket similar to the Ultralight 850 Down Hooded Jacket. But when the weather turns colder, if you want warmth & waterproof, this parka is the way to go!

I live in Chicago and bought this coat for my commute on those cold days (20 and below) as I walk to work. This coat is no joke. You only need this coat if you are in a subzero climate or it will be way too warm. On cold nights I have fun going for walks now with my dog because it's like wearing a down blanket outside. I wear just a T-shirt with this in 10 degree weather and I'm as warm as when I left the house. This isn't a light weight coat but for how warm it is, this thing should be twice the size. Very durable and functional as well with more storage than my Toyota Sequoia. It runs a bit large by design so if you want a more snug fit order once size down. I'm definitely an XL and the large for me perfectly.

This coat delivers on warmth and comfort. I have been out in the low teens and have stayed worm and comfortable, even when the wind was blowing hard. When I put the hood on my head, I could still see out side the hood easily, not like other coats where the hood acts like a potato sack over your head. It has a lot of pockets and I especially like the front pockets which are spacious and roomy and fit gloves nicely. It is bulky, but for the size of coat, it is not too heavy. I am really glad that I purchased this coat and would highly recommend it to anyone wanting to stay warm and comfortable in the freezing outdoors.

Very nice coat. Well made. Feels a bit heavy to wear, but that's what protection from cold requires. Super strong zipper and well put together. Would like if top pockets were a bit lower, but I quibble. This is going to keep me warm for many winters.

Bought it for a friend who moved from North Carolina to Montana and she needed a really good parka because she would be traveling all over the state. Her two brothers myself and another close friend bought it and to say the least she was delighted. She liked that it was warm, had good pockets and for really well too.

This is the best parka I've ever owned. It's highly functional, aesthetically pleasing, very warm in sub-zero temps, evenly distributed in terms of warmth (no cold zones), and very well-balanced in terms of how it fits the body (most other parkas I've owned, when unzipped, tend to slouch toward the back as the hood weight pulls backwards -- but not this one!). I love it.

Great performing, thoughtfully designed coat. Bought 3 weeks ago. Worn it for a 90 minute walk in 15 degree weather and waited patiently 20 minutes for the train in zero degree weather. Both in a dress shirt-weight shirt (no layers). The coat was great with a scarf: not a hint of chill. Pockets everywhere, with weather defending designs. Nicer zippers than the common ones, with solid pulls on each. The hood 'fur' and hood itself are zip off: it's deep enough for comfort. The neck area is comfortably, warmly lined with microfiber. Looks sharp too. For the suburban (or urban) adventurer, this really is the coat to buy.

Looks very stylish, extremely warm and regulating, and more pockets than I know what to do with. I almost knocked a star off for not having side pockets for hands, but then I found them and feel nothing is missing from this perfect winter coat.

This coat is very warm and it seals out wind and rain completely. Highly recommend it to anyone--especially if you can get 20% off.

I recently purchased this parka and find it to be a great buy between price, quality and use for chillier, rainy and windy weather. Where I live it doesn't get as low in temps as other places may but good to have a heavy coat for those times when it does especially if it it windy and rain. Where I work a Veteran's Day parade always goes right by the front of the building. The weather was in the mid 40s so not extremely cold but with 30 + MPH winds the wind chill was below freezing and in 20s with the gusts and then add a light rain, pretty nasty weather to be out in but with this coat on and NO lower layers I was comfortably warm with the hood up, completely dry and felt zero effects from the winds. I am 5'5" and wearing the men's regular in a smal sizel it hung to just above my knees. The nice, bright red color has already gotten many compliments. Can solidly recommend this parka.

This terrific product would be more useful, if it was more visible at night. Tasteful reflective patches would add safety when the wearer is near traffic, at an accident, or at a work site.

With our recent cold snap here in the northeast I was able to get some use out of this coat and so far I am very pleased. Warm and comfortable. Neck zips up all the way to keep the wind out. Hood fits well. I had to go with XL tall to make sure I had room through the shoulders. This gave me some excess in the body and waste but the bottom has a convenient pull tie to tighten up the bottom down at my hips. My only concern is the plastic zipper as the zipper is the reason I had to replace my 8year old Bean winter parka.

This is my second Baxter State Parka. The first one was a size large circa 2012 which is still in perfect condition after many wearings. It will go to my step-son. I bought a new size medium which is a perfect fit for me. Wish it came in the same color (blue) as the 2012 version. It is identical in every way, which is just what I wanted. Zipper wax is your friend.
