I bought for my Son, who raves about it. Warm, water resistant, comfortable, plenty of pockets. He removed the fur around the hood and I think it improves the look of the coat as well as not suggesting that he hunts. A good value for a very good coat.
GREAT,

I love wearing this thing. Especially with the hood up. I feel insulated in my own little warm world. I already had a Baxter State Parka that was 6 years old, but the zipper was starting to fail. (When you zipped it up, the bottom part of the zipper wouldn't bind correctly and before you knew it, the entire zipper was undone). But, even without using the zipper, there are plenty of buttons to keep the jacket secure.
Cold and rain are not a problem when wearing this and it doesn't feel heavy, either.

I just received my jacket and tried it on. It feels super warm, well put together, and looks awesome. I love the adjustable cords as it made the fit perfect!

this parka is large so you can layer up inside. i lived in NH, Oswego NY and now in Loveland CO. this coat is made to keep you comfortable in cold weather. i have other coats that look cool but when the temps gets to single digits and below this is the coat to grab. hands down best cold weather winter serious coat for people who need to go out in real cold. im impressed and its not my fist winter parka, im 61 and gone through a lot of coats. i read some of the reviews here and realize that the reviewers don't know cold. if you think how a coat works is more important than how it looks this Baxter is a great coat.

This is a great parka- very warm and well-made- but it runs a size too large. I ordered a medium (my typical size in outerwear) and found it big and bulky. I exchanged it for a small and the fit was much better! I recommend ordering a size down, especially if you prefer a more tailored look/feel to your clothing.

Bought this for my son who hikes, snowboards, skis in New Hampshire mountains during the winter. It is fairly expensive, but well worth it for true outdoor cold weather. He is thrilled with the quality and the warmth. We expect it to last many years, and if you pro-rate the cost over 5 - 10 years this is a much better investment than cheap fashion coats.

Trying to order the correct size led me to the reviews. My ancient LL Bean Main Warden's parka is a large and fits well. A number of people recommended going down one size for the Baxter State. It was sound advice.
I never bought anything like that in a medium before, so I was worried. When the coat arrived, I put on a heavy cotton duck work vest with an LL Bean commando sweater, zipped up, and checked the fit.
It was perfect. I truly hate clothing that restricts movement, but the fit of this parka could not have worked out better.
Having gotten it only recently, I cannot speak to its warmth in the cold, but I noticed it holding heat very quickly when I tried the fit. The quality is evident, so I expect to be comfortable when we travel.

I love my new L.L. Bean Baxter State Parka. It is very warm and comfortable. I feel confident that I can take on any winter weather with this parka. Even if I had to walk or stand around for a prolonged period in extremely cold weather, I would not feel cold. I know I can count on L.L. Bean products.

Plenty of ways to tighten coat and adjust fit to clothes that are worn underneath. Not sure if much is going to be needed as coat looks very very warm.

I bought for my husband who needed a really warm jacket. My younger son tried the jacket but he likes a more form fitting jacket and he said the jacket runs large so initially I bought the small. It was a bit snug so I got the medium. Its got enough room for a layer and my husband loves the jacket. If there was an option for a more "tapered or slim" look you would have had another order....
Kids and my husband are over the jackets with the HUGE fur color and circle label..... This jacket is understated and cool....but warm!

This parka is just what I need for New England winters. Lots of pockets, nice length, roomy enough for layering, my favorite color. This is going to be my "go to" jacket while I'm in college!

Bought this parka two years ago. Fantastic warmth on cold and windy winter days. Keeps me warm when the temperature is in the 20s or lower. I like that it is easy to slip on over winter clothes with not much effort. The velcro wrist straps are easy to use. It has plenty of pockets to store gloves, hats, etc.
My only complaint is the bad smell of the coat when it arrived in the box. Returned the first coat for another one due to the smell that would not go away. The replacement coat smelled but not as bad so i kept it. I can still smell the odor but it gets better with time. I wish LL Bean would do something about the odor as I read others have experinced the same issue.

This parka has been with me through at lest 6 Chicago winters and I'm standing here waiting for the train platform watching the freezing commuters while I'm so warm I'm taking my hat off, I'm so warm I just had to write a review, I love this coat so much. The temperature right now is 12F, wind chill -13F. I was apprehensive about buying this coat because of the price point especially given the mixed reviews about LL Bean in recent years but this is BY FAR the best purchase I've made in my adult life. DO IT, you'll thank me later.

This is the best winter coat I own. Never had a fur lined hood. I now see why they are popular. Great for walking the dog in the winter winds,

Had this coat before. Very warm. Zipper gave out after only a few years. Not broken, but very hard to zip. Hoping to get more years out of this jacket. The jacket is so warm I thought I'd take a chance.

This is the warmest coat I've owned. I've worn it for several years now, and I still love it. It is a bit oversized but I would expect that, as you can wear layers underneath it and not have a problem getting it on. It is close enough to waterproof that you can wear it in the rain and never get wet. Plenty of pockets - this is just a great coat. I've worn it down to 20 below and 20 MPH winds, no problem. The only issue I have with it is that it's a very heavy coat. I don't notice it when I put it on, just when I hand it to a coat-check person and they nearly fall over. Keep making this coat!

I live in Burlington Vermont and I work by the lake. When I take the trash out at night, the wind is ripping off the lake and its gotta feel like around -10 some nights. It's brutal. But if I wear a couple layers and this jacket it's literally not a problem at all.

I bought this Parka on the reviews I read. Only had a chance to wear it once. It lived up to my expectation. WARM! and I mean really warm.

I bought this parka for my son who lives in Chicago. It is a great winter commuter coat He loves it. It is warm without being too heavy. We bought the parka in a long size and it fit perfectly. He is very satisfied with the garment.

I have an older LLBean jacket that I thought was great. Than I got this one and what a difference. It's very warm and the water just rolls off. The temperature here is dropping but this jacket keeps me very warm. The drawstrings allow you to keep the drafts out.

I really like it. The hood is great as a collar, and as a hood when it gets really cold.

I already have a Baxter parka that I bought over 10 years ago, and it is showing it's age now so I decided I needed a new coat. The previous coat is a Large which fit fine, but having lost a some weight in the intervening years I purchased a Medium. It is just a tad large so it works fine even if I would add layers which I don't think I would because the parka is plenty warm enough. BTW my dog loves to sleep on my old parka it keeps him warm too!

Purchased this coat for a trip East. It was much more coat than I needed given I live in CA and that temperatures in PA have been mild this winter.
I highly recommend this jacket if you live in a cold climate.

I have had lots of coats in my life but I will say I was looking for a coat to keep me warm as I am getting older and the chills seem to be more prevalent. This parka is amazing. 5* today and I wanted to see how warm it was. Took a walk down to the lake with only a Tshirt under it. At no time did I notice a temp change. It is only a 1 mile walk and I wasn't out that long but that told me everything I needed to know. I have another Big named brand Parka and when I take the dogs out I can feel cold temps on my spine / neck and arms not bad, but noticeable. Thank You for a great coat.

We got this for my husband's birthday and he loves it! He says it is warm, wind proof, water tight and he loves all the pockets. It is roomy so he can add layers if needed, but it is warm enough that that will be unlikely. My husband wears this without the hood most of the time, but likes knowing its there incase we get a snow storm etc. The grey is a nice change too. We usually only get the black, but he is loving the grey.
