Altra has deemed themselves in this shoe. I had just given up on Altra for road shoes, as nothing was fitting. I do not have a wide foot but a curved forefoot. The Provision shoe has the room at the front but narrows so it isn't too big all over. It has the room yet feels snug. It has cushion but feels firm to me, which I like, I can't run in soft shoes. I am currently using for all my training runs, from short distances and tempos to marathon training. Altra laces are usually super long, on the Provision they are barely long enough. I bought my normal Altra shoe size (9.5). I choose Dusty Pink - looks nice but dirt does show, although not grungy like a white color. I have been in Altra's for about 6 years. I have used the Escalante, Rivera, and Torin. The new Escalante 2.5 is shortened and 9.5 doesn't fit. Even if it did, I couldn't buy it, nor the Torin 5, because they have that new type of thin tongue, which cuts into my foot. The Rivera felt good for about a month then I hated it - turned out to be too narrow, got too soft and lacked support. In Trail shoes, only the Superior and Timp work for me, the Lone Peak and Olympus are too roomy.

I will agree that all Altra Shoes have laces that are too short for proper lacing and stability, please, you sell running shoes. At least include an extra pair that at minimum is 54-62in. Not a horrible thing as I always end up replacing my shoe laces for a longer ones to create heel locks. I have Cerebral Palsy and need a very stable shoe that is neutral. The Torin 5 was far too unstable and had too much cushion in the forefoot, the shoe was overall too soft to support my over-pronation. The Paradigm 6 also had too much cushion much like the Torin 5, along with sizing issues. If you wear an orthotic like I do, the higher heel cup is also an advantage. The wider toe box of this shoe is essential for my orthotics and proper alignment for my walking. It's so difficult for me to find shoes, I'll be buying another pair. Definitely grateful, thanks Atlra!

I have been a devout provision shoe wearing for the last 3 years! I go through 6+ pairs a year just in my base miles. I love that I can get a new pair, put them on and run a 16+ mi long run, no brake in required because they fit my feet perfectly, guve the perfect amount of support and are all around amazing! The lacing system on the inside of the arch means you can adjust exactly how much supper you want/need there. The tow box has support but never runs or cramps your feet and the heels are a dream! I can't recommend them enough! Also they are super light weight! Once they are too beat up to run in they become my walking shoes, then my dirty chore shoes. I hate to let them. Walk to run to Altra's website and buy a pair or 3 to stock up!!!!

I bought these after needing some more cushion for my training runs. I have less pain and more support with the cushion provided. I highly recommend these for training long and short runs!

If you have flat feet and struggle with a bunion, you HAVE to have these shoes. I have both of these issues, and the Provision 6 road running shoes are everything my feet need. The toe box is totally unique. It is incredible to stand up and not feel any part of the shoe at all squeezing or compressing my toes or the front of my foot. There is space ALL around. But another great feature is that your heel and arch are snugly cradled so they do not slip or turn. The "Guide Rail" technology is not messing around - if you are an overpronator like me, your ankle and arch are locked in place. I am a preschool teacher and am on my feet 8 or more hours per day, and these shoes get me through the day with no foot pain. I have found the running shoes I will be buying exclusively from now on. P.S. - I went up a half size from my "default" shoe size, which I like to do in running shoes, and it was the perfect choice. They're not too big for my feet, but there is just enough room for my feet to swell with exercise.

There is a hard piece of material that goes up from the sole to the laces right at the arch which was cutting into my foot. No thickness of sock would make it more comfortable. I really love the way the shoe looks and I wore them while sitting to see if I could soften up that piece of material, but it just was hard and uncomfortable. I had to return them.

The shoe rubs in my instep near my heel, I tried removing the insert, but the shape of the shoe curves in at the heel in a way that rubs, even just standing. I'm not sure if it's just the standard foot shape that is too narrow for my heel, or if it's this particular shoe. I plan to try other models to see.

I just got the black color after owning and wearing the white color for 6 months. For some reason the black ones are way more comfortable than the white ones, which are cuter looking. The tongue of the white ones would slide during runs so I had to lace up to the top holes causing foot pain. So far the black ones are great with no tongue sliding! Fingers crossed. (I have been wearing this make of shoes for 10 years!)

I have run in Pure Flows for ten years and was so disappointed when they were discontinued. I tried so many different shoes but could not find a low-drop shoe that fit my foot well and held up through the long runs of marathon training. These shoes are perfect! They are cushy throughout long runs and hug my forefoot nicely. Do not change a thing about these shoes, Altra!

I have consistently suffered from shin splints and for the first time ever I don't have even a slight concern after my first long run of the season in these shoes. Also - fabulous arch support.

Very comfortable. Feels cloudlike. Lots of room in the toe box. I have a narrow heel and it doesn't slip. I usually wear 9.5 in athletic shoes, but I'm going to exchange for a 9 because they feel a little bit too big.

I have worn Altras for many years and always find them comfortable. I ordered these for a trip and they proved to be comfortable right out of the box. I wear an 8.5 in other brands but always order a 9 in Altras. That worked for this pair as well.

The only reason this shoe did not get 5 stars in every category is due to the indentation on both when worn. It leaves a weird divot in the front area

The Altra Provision 6 is 95% my perfect shoe. I need a wide toe box due to having a morton's neuroma. Check! I need some stack/cushioning because my feet are older and losing some of the padding/collagen underfoot. Check! My foot is not wide throughout, only want the toebox to be roomy, but like a shoe to "hug" my midfoot/arch. Check! Where this doesn't work for me is the guide rail pushes against the side of my heel. I have tried different inserts, to lower or high my foot. placed moleskin there, etc. Nothing works. It must be the shape that the shoe last was built on, seems to curve inwards there. My heels are not wide. This shouldn't be a problem. But it was in the Provision 4 and now again in the 6. So my near-perfect shoe is elusive. I will try the Escalante Racer next. I wish anyone could tell me how to fix the heel problem........I would get 10 pair!

I absolutely love this shoe. The design and color scheme (green/pink/white) makes these one of my favorite shoes. Super comfortable. Unfortunately, they're just not holding up. within a month of purchase there was a hole in the front/top. About two months later the tread started separating from the bottom of the shoe. I may have done two 5ks in them max- all other wear is regular work wear (in a clinic with rubber and natural wood floors). I would buy again, but they would have to be on sale to justify how quickly I wore them out.

If you've never worn a shoe w "guard rails" beware. I have had these for three months and thought the rubbing on the inside heel near my arch was due to break in. This is my first pair of Altra shoes. Come to find out it is a guard rail that is rubbing a sore there. When I looked in the shoe to see what was causing the rub it looks like the inside is not finished properly. I love everything else about the shoe but unfortunately I am past the 30 day return time.

Felt narrower in the toe box than Torin styles. Also deeper in heel area. Did not like the extension of the white soles beyond the upper shoe.

The raised part on the back of the shoe dug into my ankle when I ran. Not sure if anyone else experienced this? I have to return them and get a different style.

These shoes are fantastic, almost! I love the cushioning, the fit is perfect, but, the worst tread design ever! Small rocks and debris get stuck every time worn! If you take your shoes off at the door, these shoes are for you! "Floor Scratchers" for sure!
