I've ran in Lone Peaks for several years starting with 4s and then 4.5, 5 and now 6. I absolutely love the LP4/4.5. but have found the subsequent models to be sub par to the standard Altra set on the 4s for me. The 4s were some of the most durable shoes I've had while the 5s blew out. The 5s still ran great and maybe the blowouts was a slight shift in sizing. The 6s feel like they have shifted in sizing even more throwing much of the show off. I always like a little slip in the show but my 6s feel terrible in the mud and I've lacked confidence crossing mud swaths I've never had issues with before. If I focus on tying them extra tight it improves so I think most of this is a size issue as the bottoms don't look different then models past. I hope as trails dry up I like the 6s I have better. My personal experience in the 6s so far compared to past shoes is a 2/5. I chose a rating of 3/5 to give benefit of doubt from models past and that my own issue stems from it not fitting as well anymore.

The LP6 wide is not as wide as the LP5 wide. My feet hang over the sides and my big toe cannot splay enough. Real bummer, as the LP5 is the best fitting shoe I've ever worn.

I loved your Lone Peak 3.5. It remains the best trail runner I have tried. My enthusiasm for that shoe led me to also buy a 4.0, but the toe box was much too wide. The 4.5 was somewhere between, but still too wide, which meant hot spots and ultimately blisters. Since the 4.5 I have tried on but have not purchased the 5s or 6s. The toe box is still too wide. Let's make that clear. From being my favorite shoe, the Lone Peak has become a shoe that I will not buy for any price. This is not merely notalgia: when I realized that the 4s and 4.5s weren't working I hurriedly bought several 3.5s that I now save for long hikes rather than wearing all the time because I can't get them any longer. Two days ago I met a guy on a day hike who had some Lone Peaks 6s on. That finally prompted me to write this review. I got the impression that he had purchased them because they had been all the rave. But guess what? He was getting blisters. He simply wasn't knowledgeable enough to know that that is rare for a trail runner that fits properly. I used to work in the shoe department at REI. Most manufacturers have lines of shoes that fit certain feet, and customers will come in asking not just for a brand but also for a specific model shoe. Similarly, your Olympus, TIMP, etc did not fit me as well as those 3.5s. So, by all means, design a new last for a new shoe model that pleases a different shape of foot. However, I am mystified about why you would ruin the Lone Peak. It was one of the most popular shoes ever. I have lost count of the number of people I know who moan the passing of the Lone Peak 3.5.

Huge fan of Lone Peaks for many, many reasons, such as quality (I've never had any durability issues) and functional design (best trail sole IMHO), but I have to express my disappointment on the Wides, a feeling which has happened too many times now -- I wait and wait for the new line to come out and then something has changed and it's not the same as the previous one, too narrow, and no longer has the room I had in the toe box of the previous model. Getting old. Plus there's the fact that the only colors available in wide are often the least desirable. I've probably owned 10 pairs of Altras, so I'm at least 1.3K in with this brand, probably more. To keep wearing Lone Peaks, I'm going to have to go back and order another pair of the Lone Peak 5's in Wide in Blue, before they're no longer available. The black Wide 6's are too narrow. Such a bummer.
I see so many hikers wearing these shoes. I CANNOT be the only one scratching their head as to why Wides are such a bridge too far for Altra.

The insoles wear out fast and they do not offer replacements. Please offer replacement insoles!! For years I've been trying to get them and they always say "we don't know when they'll be available". Talk about planned obsolescence.....They'll recommend hacking together a replacement using Spenco or other insoles, but it does not work well because of Altra's unique foot shape. Please, just offer replacement insoles!!!!

same size as my former pair long peak 4 mens 8 but in wide feels only marginally wider but also longer so my foot doesn't fit into wide part of shoe. This seems to be a common issue in shoe design.

These run a half size small in length, and are wide in the toe box and heel. Weird, weird, fit.
Good looking though, and for people for whom they fit, they've got a great reputation.
Returned.

Bought a pair of LP 6 &10th anniversary yellows! Both failed early in their lifespan. On both the sole started pulling away in the heel area very early on. Super glue helped, but ended in trash.

SO NARROW! I purchase this style of Altra every year in Winter (and I wear other Altra styles as well). This year's style of this shoe is not only significantly narrower (through the entire shoe) than last year's (and the year before) but the arch is weird (severe). I have worn these 5-6 times and have had new pain each time I've worn them. I buy Altras for the wide forefoot and even buy the men's sizing (I'm female) due to my bunions - to get more space in the forefoot (I don't have wide feet other than the forefoot). Not sure how men wear these as they are noticeably narrow through the middle of the foot (elsewhere too but particularly here). I compared the width of this shoe to my older ones and they are noticeably narrower overall. I've had to go back to my older ones because my feet hurt so much after I wear these. An expensive mistake at $140 a pair. I won't wear these anymore! Altra - do better!

I wear the Lone Peak 6 indoors only because the cushioning felt insufficient when worn on concrete sidewalks. I will use my pairs of Lone Peak 4 outdoors. I hope the new Lone Peak 7 has better cushioning than the 6.
The original footshape remains great. I wish Altra would return to it with the Torin also.

They seem to have slightly narrowed the Lone Peaks. I've worn these for many years. I've probably had a dozen pairs or so. However, the latest version is too narrow. They still have the square-ish and roomy toe box but they are just a bit too narrow, My foot measures as the normal foot width (not wide). I've tried the wide size and they are far too wide. I'd estimate them to be 3/8" - 1/2" too wide. At this point, Sadly I'm moving to another brand.

My husband has worn size 11 D Altra for many years. This last round of new shoes are narrower than the previous shoes he has known and loved.

Terrible on technical trails. They are so wide my foot slides inside the shoe and torques my ankle to correct. The grip is marginal at best. I fell twice due to poor grip on a trail I've run may times without incident.

I love Altra shoes, I have worn them exclusively for 8+ years. I would tell friends and family about them and recommend them. One of the best things is you don't need to break them in. I have had almost all there styles and this last pair was SO disappointing that I can't recommend them. It feels like cheap shoes.
They have fallen apart and worn down so fast, the tread is almost gone. I will be looking for a new shoe in just 3 months of lite daily use. For the price you have to pay for these shoes they should last so much longer. I didn't run in them, I literally want to work and came home. I have had a pair of their KING MT for 5 years and they are still amazing. The tread is still going strong and I have ran, hiked, and trail ran for years.
Altra please go back to making high quality shoes. Stop making these cheap shoes that don't last.

The shoe is shaped wrong for a person with wide feet. The toe box roles off sharply on the outside edge and touches my toes even with a wide EE size. I replaced them with a Keen boot same size and width, however the toe box is square and does not crowd the toes.

I was really excited when the Lone Peak 6 showed up...really like to look of the shoe. Unfortunately, the ultra large toe box is simply too big as the front half of my foot swam in the shoe. Just not going to work for me.

Disappointed. I have been wearing Lone Peak 5 size 7.5, but wanted to size up, as my feet are wide, including in the arch area, where the shoe narrows. I purchased Lone Peak 6 size 8 and the shoe was tight. Both shoes were in the men's wide, as women's sizing is too narrow for me. I placed the two shoes sole to sole, and the soles were the same size. I did not check the width of each, as I knew I would return the Lone Peak 6. Within a manufacturer, I expect sizing to be consistent.

Honestly, I really did love these shoes but they barely made it past 150 miles before falling apart. For that price it's gonna be really hard for me to buy them again...

This is a great shoe but it broke down very quickly. After only a month and a half, the foot bed was all but worn out and became uncomfortable. Now, two weeks later there are holes in the sides.

The main problem with these I've had with some Salomon shoes as well, but they are too narrow in height. It causes them to rub on the top of my toes and foot to the point of causing enough discomfort that they're not enjoyable to wear.
Only other complaint is it needs a little more padding under heal. Even a better insert would solve that issue.
I love the wide toe box though

I got a pair of Lone Peak 5's last year and wore them into the ground. Absolutely loved the fit, my foot was held perfectly and it was comfortable on any terrain and any length of trek. I am happy with all but one of the new features on the Lone Peak 6's. First, removing the inside patch was an improvement, I have custom orthotics and they blew out the side really quickly. (How long they lasted after is a testament to their quality.) Second, the rubber on the bottom feels more durable, at the end of their life, my 5's had zero tred left.
But unfortunately the heel cup is far too loose to fit my foot, I find myself swimming in them, whereas the 5's kept me secure and stable. These shoes simply won't work for running, even moving the lace to the rear holes hasn't stopped my heel from slipping. I will still keep them for hiking and everyday stuff which they work fine for. If you have a wider heel these may work for you but don't buy if you have narrow heels.
If Altra were to make the next Lone Peak that has all the qualities of the Lone Peak 6 and the heel cup of the Lone Peak 5, I would buy 5, no 10 pairs and wear them for the rest of my life. That is a promise.

I started rocking Altra over a year ago. The lone peak 5s are awesome. I was in need of some new shoes. Losing traction and support in the 5s. So I bought the 6s a month in advance to prepare for my race. The shoes were good for a couple weeks and then they slowly started falling apart. The heel cup ripped through and started cutting the back of my heel. I ended up wearing my 5s for the 50 mile race. I would've been in a ton of pain with the new ones.

This is the first pair of Altra shoes I've owned and they're a miss for me. I'm 6'1" and 212 lbs. Very little cushion on rocky single track runs. They leave the ball of my foot sore after every use. I was running in more of a hiker and when they wore out I thought I'd try something geared more for trail running. This shoe doesn't provide any more cushion or protection than the worn out hikers they replaced. They are very comfortable, light weight, and seem very durable. The grip of the sole is really good, but with out the protection from rocks they leave me wanting something else. Guess I'll have to pick my foot placement carefully until they wear out.
