My 2-year-old wears about a size 9-10. We could not even get these on his feet in size 10. I am guessing it is because he still has the tall/chubby toddler foot shape. The ankle portion was too narrow to get his foot through into the boot, and the boot is not designed to help you much in this (not a lot of extra space to be cinched down by the velcro strap, for example). A larger size would not have helped as the length was most likely correct and it is so tall the 10 already would have interfered with his knee (he's about 36" tall). Otherwise it seemed like a fine boot I guess? Hard to say if the proportions would have been better for older children's feet. Obviously I am returning them.

I do not understand all the positive reviews here- the sizing seems very strange and narrow. I sized up and my son who wears a size 11 tried the 12. I am including a photograph of the discrepancy between the size of the liner and the exterior width of the boot. It was literally impossible for him to even get his foot into the boot. At first, I thought this was just because the boot itself is very stiff. But when I removed the liner, it became clear that the liner is very tiny. My son does not have particularly wide feet at all, if anything his shoes are usually too roomy.

Boots are great, but liners are way too narrow for my grand son's foot to wear, so he wears heavy socks.

These boots are not waterproof. My 5-year old son likes the feel of the boots and enjoys wearing them, but EVERY time he goes out in the snow, his feet get wet. I put his snow pant liner securely over the boot, so I know no snow is sneaking in from the top. We sent the first pair back because I thought they were defective, but the new pair leaks through, too. It's great that they come with 2 pair of removable liners, but I should not have to take them out EVERY night to dry them. Additionally, the back of one pair of liners wore through after only a couple of months. We have always relied on Bean for outdoor boots, but I am sad to say we would not order these again.

They are very sturdy but unfortunately they are not waterproof and that is a big deal when dealing with snow! The least thing you want is to have your feet wet and my son is coming home every day with wet feet. It very disappointing specially since they are not cheap.

They didn't fit. Too narrow & no space for my very high instep; this without the liners in the boot.

I have been buying these boots for my kids for years. These used to be warm and could get through multiple winters. The most recent pairs that I bought for both kids haven't even survived this winter! The linings wore down to holes in the heels and even when worn for a short time, they get wet. Both kids find them to not keep them warm enough. I miss the quality that LL Bean used to have.

Price goes up but quality goes down! Boots split from the rubber sole to where the fabric connect. Wondered my my feet were wet. Had a friend alter them to seal the rubber back to the fabric. The liner inside have a hole at the ankle region. Poor quality product. Old bean boots used to last a long time. Now only made to last a couple season (if that) until you have to go back to buy new again. You are paying for the "name" not quality that it used to pride itself on.

Very disappointed. We have used these boots for our kids for years. But the liner is now way smaller than the actual boot. I even ordered a second pair the next size up- same problem. I called customer service and they confirmed the boot has a new production source and they suggested I look for a new brand of boot- due to the issue.
So bummed as these were the best boots!!
Gonna go on eBay and try and find last years version

I've bought these boots every year for the last 10 years - they were a necessity for winter with two boys. This year, they are so narrow, my kids couldn't even get their feet in. I ordered multiple sizes and they were all way too narrow. So disappointed that the price has increased while the quality has decreased.

Not even water resistant. Daughter wore them once and they soaked through and won't dry. Horrible product.

I never write reviews, but I'm so disappointed by these boots. The outer portion of the boot is great, but the felt liners don't hold up and after a few months of use there are giant holes in the liners at the back of my kids' ankles. LLBean does not sell replacement liners, and when I have contacted them asking what they suggest, I have been told to search the web for replacement felt liners. Shouldn't LLBean stand behind their product, and offer replacement liners if they're going to wear out after normal winter wear? I've had no luck so far find replacement liners. These boots don't hold up to use by one kid, and will definitely not hold up for hand-me-downs. How disappointing. I've purchased several of these boots over the years for my kids. I will not be purchasing again.

I have never been disappointed with an order from LL Bean. This was first. So sorry. Had to be returned.

The title pretty much sums it up! I wanted to love these boots, but my boys wore through through BOTH pairs of liners in just one season. Unfortunately, LLBean doesn't offer replacement liners for purchase anymore, either. So now we have two pairs of near perfect outers that are useless without the liners.
I purchase LLBean with the expectation that we will be able to pass them down to the next child for at least another season--if I thought a boot was only going to last for a single winter I would purchase at a big box store.
These boots unfortunately don't live up to the standard I usually expect from LLBean!

I purchased these boots one year ago as I have three boys and planned to pass them on... since they are suppose to be 100% guaranteed. The inside liner ripped after one season of use. When I called LLBean to inquire about replacement liners, they informed me that they do not issue replacement liners for these kid's boots. Please know that if you purchase these over $50.00 boots, they only last as long as the liner.

I bought these for my 4 year old based on the excellent reviews but they were too tall for her to walk in comfortably. Maybe these are great boots for older kids, but not the best for littler kids.

My 11 year old son opened these on Christmas Day and went outside to play in the snow. 30 minutes later he was inside complaining that his feet were wet and freezing. Both the boot and the linings were soaked from being in six inches of fluffy new snow. They will be going back to LL Bean tomorrow as they do not appear to be waterproof at all.

RIDICULOUS! These boots are enormous! I read reviews on this site prior to purchasing but my kids have been wearing the Northwoods boots for years. I just put my size 9.5 (women's) foot into a kids 5 and it fit. My daughter was wearing my son's size 13 from last year and I ordered the same size, new, and they're huge too. I'm very frustrated with LL Bean. It seems like the kids shoes are WAY wrong as though somehow adult shoes have been labeled as kids. I am now ordering my kids (size 13 and size 5) sizes 4 and 11. I hope these fit--it will be the third time I've paid for them and had to send them back.
