I bought this for my skinny granddaughter who wanted a soft coat. It's soft and cozy. But it is wide! I was surprised to discover that there is no cinch either at the waist or the bottom of the jacket. I thought that an LL Bean product would have that. We're hoping it will be warm but I suspect I'll be adding some elastic to the inside.

Love this jacket! Well made, comfortable and warm. My kids love these jackets. It's a great jacket for our cold winters. The only reason I rated 4 out of 5 is because there are not too many color choices for the XL size. Plus with the XL sizes the stock is low whatever time of the year I want to order.

This is soaked by the time my daughter comes in from playing in the snow. I guess I didn't check to see if it was waterproof...just assumed a child's winter coat from LLBean would be good for snow play? Really weird decision on their part. It's very warm for walking to school though (of course if there is a cold rain, big problem). Just not very practical for winter play. I had to get her a second ski coat to wear in the snow.

I recently purchased an L.L.Bean down jacket for my son, and there are things I love and things I wish were better. First, the color is absolutely beautifulit's vibrant and just as shown online. The coat is incredibly soft and warm, making it perfect for colder weather.
However, I noticed that after just a couple of wears, the down started escaping from the seams. It's a bit disappointing, especially for a brand known for quality. While the jacket is still functional and cozy, I'm concerned about how well it will hold up over time.
Overall, it's a stylish and warm coat, but I'd recommend keeping an eye on the durability.

The coat is nice material and fits great but there are always little feather pieces on my son's clothes. Also the side is piling bad. Have had 2 other LL Bean jackets and never had an issue. Also this coat is thick and hard to wear in the car seat.

The zipper on this jacket has been a problem since I purchased it. I should have returned it; however, it was winter and the jacket was needed. It is almost impossible to get the zipper opened at the bottom. Even if you hold the placket back when you zip it, it is jammed when unzipping the jacket. It's easier to step out of the jacket and open the zipper later.

Jacket fit my 5 year old as expected. The shell material is very thin and has already snagged and there is now a tiny hold on the front of the jacket. Happened after one week of wear. Probably happened on the playground at school. This is a very warm jacket but I'd say not great for active outdoor play.

Small and tight for my daughter who is tall but thin. I would order 2 sizes up.

The feathers shed from the jacket onto clothing. The zipper on the detachable hood doesn't stay in place properly. It's a nice looking jacket and warm. Was planning on using it for school, but will probably just use it for play.

We didn't get a chance to try out this coat because as soon as we took it out of the package it smelled horrible! It had a really bad musty smell. My son didn't even want to try it on. We sent it back.

This is a nice jacket. It is lofty, well-stitched, and colorful. The body is WAY too boxy, though. My son complains that the cold literally blows up into the jacket from the waist.

My grandson loved the warmth of the coat. the lining feels wonderful. And it looks great on him. My only problem with the coat is it holds onto dirt very easy. I had a difficult time keeping it look good.

First the good: The jacket is definitely warm! No complaints from a kid who hates being outside in the cold.
The bad: the outer jacket material is an ultra-thin nylon. This means any trek through the woods where one might encounter a bramble or two, and there are permanent holes ripped in the jacket with feathers coming out. It could be a perfect jacket with a tougher outer material.

Bought his for my 8 year old grandson b/c it was warm and had a hood. It ripped, so tried to return it at the Colonie store. Clerk was rather nasty and siad the jacket had been rpped by the child and they would not take it back. Sold me a mending kit for $8 instead. I doubt that I will ever purchase a child's jacket at L.L. Bean again. Very disappointed in the "new" rturn policy. And in the clerk's attitude.

I wanted to love this jacket so much! I bought two of these for my kids for Christmas 2018, intended to be primary jackets for school, winter activities, etc. we live in Maine, it gets pretty cold! As far as warmth goes, these were GREAT but the fabric left something to be desired. A few years ago my daughter had a similar jacket from Beans and the outer fabric was much thicker and more sturdy. My son tore the front of his coat sometime between a walk in the woods and getting ready for school the next morning... and unfortunately could not be exchanged.... I would think that LLBeans quality would provide a coat that can hold up to being worn by a 5 year old.... bought the Tenacious Repair tape to hopefully get through the rest of this winter

My 8 yr old complained about the white fluff all over his school uniform shirt. The other kids were commenting about all of the fluff. The white fluff gets on everything. I thought this would be a good replacement for the same coat he outgrew, but it is not the same quality. This will have to be returned.

We love LLBean and typically stick with them for our winter wear. This jacket though has caused issues. We first bought one last summer for this winter's use. After about a month of wear, the zipper broke. Luckily, LLBean has a FANTASTIC return policy so we exchanged it for a new one. They were out of the same color, but we adjusted. Then, my son took the new one on a boy scout camping trip and got two holes in the sleeves just walking around the woods. Some branches poked at him and it tore. So I don't think it's a legit return this time, but so disappointed. We haven't even had the new one for a month. I would have hoped it was more durable.

It is warm and comfortable jacket. However, the sherpa lining inside the jacket leaves lint on everything my son wears underneath. As a result, he constantly has green lint on all his clothes. We did not expect that to happen with L.L. Bean jacket. We are disappointed with this purchase.

We got the boys blue with pea green lining as one of several jackets for my very picky 5 year old grandson to try. His mom and I hoped he would pick this one. But the lining color was yucky. Yep. He is long in the torso but short for his age and the little boys 5-6 hangs down but kind of fits. The Llbean store is great with returns so I can shop on line and try on at home. A must for this kid!

I bought my 12 year old a size 18. If he goes through a big growth spurt, it wont fit him by March. A 18 should be big on him because he isn't much over average size, (remember, he is 12) but it isn't. So my point is, make sure you get it larger than you would expect the kid to wear. While it is warm and he loves it, it isn't very durable. He already has tape in two places after only a month. Holes get pomed into it easily. Down jackets used to have much more durable fabric. LL Bean, like most other companies, have gone cheap on quality.

The jacket is warm, fits well, and looks great exactly what I expect from LL Bean. But it sheds white feathers every day, and for a kid with sensory issues, that's a big problem. No visible rips or damage, just constant feather leakage through the fabric. Wish the quality of the shell was tighter because the style and warmth are fantastic, but the shedding makes it hard to recommend.
