I bought my first Waterproof PrimaLoft Packaway Jacket in black about a year ago after I noticed how many passengers on a December Rhine River cruise were wearing similar coats/jackets while I was burdened with a heavy wool coat. And even though I have dropped about 15 pounds since then the Large still fits my slight pear shape well enough so that I can wear a heavy sweater underneath (a requirement today in single digit wind chill). The front pockets location is ideal for me since they are positioned where my hands naturally look for pockets. The large inside pocket on the left is just deep enough as to not be annoying when I look to retrieve a phone, change purse, etc. And the hood keeps me totally protected on those early morning doggie "necessities" outings. I like this coat enough to buy a 2nd in white...today. Turn it inside out to machine wash and I let it line dry inside. A good and wise investment.

This jacket is absolutely beautiful in both construction and the feel of the fabric. No crinkly sound, soft to the touch, with wonderful pocket placement for me (some people didn't like where they were, but I did). The attached "bag" inside is easy to use and figure out when you want to pack it up to make it "small". I have purchased it for a South American cruise next month that goes around the cape, so it will be worn in a cold, and likely wet climate. Although the medium "technically" fit, even with a long sleeved fleece underneath, it was still a "little" snug in the bust and across the back and middle area. It actually fit fine in the hip area which surprised me. I am 5'6" and158-ish in weight and have a bust size (36DD). I have ordered a large for comparison and will keep the one that is the most flattering (I'm sure it will be the large so I don't look sausage-like). I feel if you are a "curvy" customer you might consider sizing up (it cuts in a little at the waist) where a more slender/athletic (and less "apple or pear shaped) person might need to order size appropriate.

I was looking for a lightweight, easy to shove in a bag jacket that's very warm (I'm typically wrangling little kids, their coats, and belongings and was finding that hauling a large parka around just wasn't working anymore). For that purpose, this jacket is AWESOME!!!!!! It's super warm and light (surprisingly warm considering how thin it is). I don't mind that it's boxy at all--plenty of room for a thick fleece or sweater under it (which I'm finding that I often don't need because the jacket really is that warm). Like other reviewers have mentioned, the pockets are weird and strangely low--however, the other benefits are so valuable to me that I just don't care (the pockets ARE roomy, though, which, for my purposes, can be great (lots of little kid items fit into them if I'm wearing the coat). It packs down really small and can fit in a roomy purse or diaper bag easily. I loved it so much, I got it in more than one color and my mom was so impressed with it (after seeing mine in action and trying it on for herself on a very, very cold day) that she's considering one for herself. I highly recommend it (as long as you're fine with some low-hanging pockets).

A perfect fit, literally and figuratively. Love the fit and length. A great cold weather, errand running coat.

I love this jacket but had to return a Large and reorder an XL--perfect for my big hips. (The large was true to size but did not have room to layer a thick sweater beneath.) I need a coat to be waterproof for rain days, warm for snow days and long enough to cover the part of me that gets the coldest! It's well worth the return and re order. My Christmas gift to myself! Plus the blue is a gorgeous true color.

just what I needed and hoped for when I bought it. Lots of compliments on it. I am allergic to down so this is a great down alternative.

Everything I was looking for, ie a rain jacket with liner for warmth. The fit is good, plenty of arm length and room to fit 2 layers underneath. It's been comfortably warm in 20 degree temperatures. I agree with other reviewers that a 2-way zipper is desirable. I'd also like a small pocket in the collar to stow the hood when not needed.

I like this jacket bc it is comfortable, packable, and well made. I've worn it when the temperature was 38-45 degrees and it kept me warm. I like the longer length.

I couldn't be more happy with my jacket: it's not stuff like some windproof shells. I've worn it during my morning walks WITH a down layer. With temperatures at 29, the jacket protected me from wind and chill due to its Primaloft AND the additional down jacket I wear. My only request? I'd love it in more softer colors, say a sage green, or light brown or khaki. If L.L.Bean does make the jacket in these colors, I will definitely purchase it! Excellent purchase for me!

This coat is exactly what I was looking for. Completely waterproof, longer length, and pockets a great addition. Very lightweight yet warm.

I chose the red rain jacket because I often walk early in the morning before the sun comes up. I want to be seen. I am pleased with the color in daylight, too. It is very comfortable and warm enough for Oregon weather. The hood does not obstruct my side view like my raincoats do.

I'm very happy with my jacket. Looks great on and the longer length is wonderful. Only issue I have is no small chest pocket for cell phone. Also the interior pocket on the left side is too deep to be functional. it definitely needs a an accessible secure phone pocket. Love the style weight and color.

Coat is extremely lightweight but warm. My 87 year old mom just loves it. The best Christmas/birthday gift ever.

Soft, leightweight, waterproof, with a great hood that keeps the rain away! I would love a version of this jacket in a longer length.

I first punched the 3-1 challenger but didn't care for the material or the fact that the inner sleeve was too short. I returned it for the waterproof primaloft and I'm a happy camper now. I love the fit and the material ( doesn't make the crinkle noise at all). I would highly recommend this jacket if you want something that goes below your waist and won't ride up when you sit down.

This jacket is perfect for me. I love the color (blue) and the fact that it is warm and windproof. Snow and rain roll off the outer material. Best of all, it is easy to put on over blouses and sweaters. The lining is silky, unlike fleece which sticks to everything.

I bought this coat for my daughter to wear in the winter especially on the college campus. Coat is light weight but is very warm. She wears it in 20-30 degree weather with only t-shirt underneath and stays very warm. She was amazed to find a coat that would fit, look stylish, and be warm. Thank you, LlBean! Love the marine blue color, too.

I'm very pleased with this waterproof primaloft jacket. It is an effective raincoat. We've had a lot of rain this November; it kept me warm and dry. The jacket is lightweight and soft but still warm, especially worn with a good sweater.

I have had this jacket for a month. The weather has been cold and wet (15 degrees and a blizzard). I have been very comfortable outside. The rain just beads up on the jacket's material. It is so light. I also love the cuffs that keep the cold out and the rip cord adjustments you can make around the waist. Pockets are big. I even had a horse try to take a nip out of my sleeve and it did not tear! I got the large so that I could layer sweaters inside. I don't really need the sweaters. It is warm enough. I love the zippers at the bottom on the back, perfect for riding.

I have been having so much trouble finding a winter jacket that covers all of my needs - warm, not bulky, covers my bum, arm length not too long, even when I order a petite medium and most important, since we travel a lot, PACKABLE. When I read the description of the Women's Waterproof PrimaLoft Packaway Jacket I thought, "well maybe this will work." WOW is all I can say!!!! This jacket has it ALL and more - the knit cuff on the sleeve, the drawstring on the hood, the warm pockets, the zippered phone case inside. My husband cannot stop telling me how good it looks on me (happy face) and I cannot repeating how much I LOVE IT! Thank you LL Bean for this design - I will never have to look at another "puffy" jacket again now that I have my Primaloft Packaway, I ordered it in black and am glad I did - We just spent a week in New York City and I wore it every single day, even out to the theater with a pretty scarf to dress it up. I hope this review can convince anyone who is dithering on whether to purchase such an expensive jacket to JUST DO IT!!!!

I purchased this coat because I needed something for the cold rain we often get in Michigan. So far, so good. It's extremely warm. I have packed it all into the pocket - nice to slip it in my carryon during airline travel. I do wish it had a second front zipper from the bottom - feels a bit tight when I'm driving

No more bulky jackets that make you look like you've gained 20 lbs. overnight! The technology behind this jacket keeps you toasty warm without the bulk! The jacket is realistically sized, meaning that it is designed to fit real people. Plenty of pockets, a hood, and it packs up into it's own little package. Oh did I mention the Peacock Blue is gorgeous! Well worth it's price and of course, it's a LL Bean... Perfect!

This seems like the perfect jacket for travel. It is attractive enough for city wear, warm for its very light weight, easily packable without a lot of weight or space, and completely waterproof. It isn't really designed for extreme cold, but I've had it a few weeks, and have been comfortable in damp, below freezing temperatures with a fleece underneath. I agree with other reviewers that a relief zipper would be nice, but the jacket is not so long that it is absolutely necessary. And I also agree that, unless you get it on sale, it is rather pricey. But this is definitely going to be my go-to jacket for most weather.
