This is a great jacket, especially for travel. I was a little skeptical that it would keep me warm on a trip to NYC in the middle of Jan.because it is so light. WRONG! It was perfect. It was 25-35 degrees with occasional rain and biting wind. I wore Bean's flannel lined jeans, cotton turtleneck, and fleece-lined shirt. I was toasty warm as I walked blocks and blocks in the cold. The best part of the jacket was being able to stuff it into its left inside pocket and drop it into my Bean's Stowaway Day Pack while I visited several museums. It is light as a feather so no trudging through busy buildings weighed down by lugging a heavy coat. The other plus is the high zipper that reaches just below your nose. That really blocks the wind and will keep you very comfortable. This is a wonderful jacket, well worth the price.

I have a short bike ride to work, 2 miles, and needed something that could handle the DC cold especially early mornings. I've been very comfortable in this coat at 20 degrees and it's not too hot when I work up a sweat on my ride. The color is off-black but overall goes with everything. It has performed well in light rain as well and I'm looking forward to taking it on an upcoming ski trip. Really happy with this purchase.

I live in NH and needed something for those cold wind chill days and nights and this jacket was perfect 100%. You don't even need to layer with this jacket just a long sleeve shirt/sweater and you are good to go. It is very lightweight and there is no bulky feeling to it. Perfect for any weather mother nature throws at us. It is the go to jacket.

I was so grateful to find this amazingly lightweight, soft and well crafted coat. The zippers and hood work great, its smooth on and off, solidly waterproof and wind resistent, and (with an adequate under layer) its warm enough for all but the coldest days (im in NY) as well as fine for moderate temps. Have to note that I was initially disappointed since it felt quite chilly through the arms with a single thin under layer in temps right around freezing when I was doing brisk walking and yard wok. This was rectified with a light fleece add-on I really think the Bean temp claims are misleading and the base asumptions more clearly stated. With that caveat, so pleased with this wonderful fabric and technical qualities!

I've been wanting a warm waterproof jacket for several years, for spring and fall rains and shoveling snow during winter storms and snowshoeing. Living in Maine I have lots of warm jackets, but none are waterproof. Shoveled snow today at 34 degrees (warm day here!) and with a thin wool long john shirt on and just leggings needed those pit zips! I can easily see it being warm enough to at least 0 or below if you're being active. Sizing is snug, I'm a 10-12 on top, busty, this fits perfectly, but not to layer which I don't think is necessary with this jacket. My only complaint is that it is a little short waisted, but most LLBean jackets are on me.

I found the zipper under the armpit a bonus for my larger chest size! The rain beaded off and dried in no time. I love everything about this coat. Worth the money and highly recommend.

This is my new favorite jacket. I live in Minnesota, and needed a jacket that was warm, water proof, and at least mostly wind resistant, so I could walk my dog without getting too hot or too cold. This jacket fits the bill perfectly! It's roomy without being too loose. Depending on the weather I've worn it with just a t-shirt all the way up to a heavy sweatshirt and still had good mobility. It has plenty of pockets. Feels very light weight but keeps me warm (I tend to run cold, so I do have to wear a sweatshirt or heavy sweater under it on days that are below 20 degrees). On 20+ degree days, I've been comfortable with just a light weight long sleeve shirt under it. Aside from a couple of minus 20 days we've had, this has been my go to jacket for the fall and winter.

I've had my Tek jacket for several months and it's literally the only jacket I wear now. I'm in northern Louisiana so we don't get super cold temps past 20*F on a frosty day, but its a humid cold where it wants to penetrate your bones. I can't say enough about this jacket. It's waterproof, windproof and comfortable. It has endless adjustable features, half of which I'm beyond impressed. There's a rigid piece on the brow of the hood so it doesn't buckle and cover your eyes. The hood is adjustable for smaller heads/shorter necks. The waist is adjustable. There is a zipper relief in the armpit spaces for ventilation and a zipper on both sides of the coat tail for comfort. The pockets zip shut. Awesome. The lining is soft and the cuffs have a snug fit but still very comfortable for long wear. The outer cuff is there for style purposes and has a velcro strap to tight that down, too! I love the spacious mesh pocket on the inside to hide my phone and wallet while I trek (or run) to my car in the rain. There's also an inside zipper pocket that's DEEP. The length is perfect for me, even with my long torso and finally..the front zipper: It zips from the bottom all the way to the top, covering my neck so a scarf is not necessary. I am a little busty and it zips over those buddies. I live in this jacket, y'all! I love it. I love love love it. For the price, I feel like I didn't pay enough to be this pleased. What a bargain!

This has got to be one of the best coats LL Bean makes. Yes, primaloft insulation is extremely thin, thinner than down. That being said, it is surprisingly warm. Other reviewers should keep in mind that LL Bean gets their temperature ratings from people of average build doing light activity, wearing appropriate layers (i.e., a base layer and a mid layer). And they urge you to consider your own sensitivity to the cold. Will this jacket keep you warm in 20 degrees if you have a thin shirt on underneath and are just standing outside with no movement? probably not. With appropriate layers this jacket it plenty warm. One thing i love about this jacket is it also regulates temperature very well so that I can wear it when it's 50 degrees out and not overheat. And more importantly it is fully waterproof, which down is not. This coat has been perfect for rainy winters in VA and has been great for warmer winter days in upstate NY. My only complaints- make a two way zipper in the front so its more comfortable in the car, and make a jacket version that falls at the hip which would be better for activities such as snowshoeing.

In my eternal search for a great winter parka, I came across the Primaloft PackAway. I suspected that it would be too lightweight to be warm enough for New England winter, but I am OFF down for the cruelty of killing ducks and geese to rip out their feathers. (don't Google it, it will traumatize you!) Just tested the PackAway during several days of 22-36 degree weather including wet snow, and it was completely satisfactory - maybe I'll have to wear a heavier fleece or sweater underneath in the depths of winter. AND it's really waterproof! I love the longer length, cozy hood and easy zipper.

This was an excellent purchase worth every penny. I bought it for late autumn/early winter travel in Europe and it has been warm, truly waterproof, and exceptionally light. The lowest temps I've worn it in so far have been about 32 F and rainy and I have been comfortable with a scarf and long sleeve shirt and camisole underneath. I will also be wearing this in Sweden in December and brought thermal shirts and a cashmere sweater and know I will be fine. I run cold and hate being cold. I'm small framed with narrow shoulders and the XS looks a touch big on me. The only complaint I have about this jacket is that it picks up environmental smells VERY easily. I've been wearing it everyday for 3 weeks on this trip so far and am desperate to wash it because it smells like all the restaurants I've been to.

I live in Wisconsin and was looking for a cold weather jacket that was warm, but not bulky. This jacket has it all! Very warm with no bulk so it's perfect for the school carpool. It has side vents so it's been great for hiking. I love that it packs into its own pocket which will be great for holiday travel (one less bulky jacket to heave onto the plane). I've worn it in weather as cold as single digits so far and it's been very warm.

I am so glad I spent the extra money for this coat. It is so comfortable and is warm enough to wear on colder days with a sweater underneath. Perfect for going to the store or for longer drives in the car because you don't overheat and I haven't had to use the pit zips yet. It also fits me very nicely. Not too long in the sleeves and not baggy it has become my go to coat.

This jacket is perfect in every way - the color is beautiful, it's very light, comfortable, and warm enough without being too hot. It packs away in its own pocket - great for traveling - takes up hardly any room in the luggage. Oh, and forgot to add. It's waterproof!

I don't normally do reviews, but I love this coat so much I had to write one. I took this coat with me on a trip to Spain in the fall. It's lightweight and comfortable, yet warm enough for weather 30-50 degrees. The tapered waist keeps it from looking boxy. I would normally buy black, but very happy that I took a chance on the blue. It's a very pretty color without being too bold.

This jacket is so lightweight, it's hard to believe how warm it can keep you. I ordered the blue last year but it didn't go with much of my wardrobe, so I exchanged it for the black and will get much more use out of it. If you're thinking about it, maybe wait for it to go on sale, but def do it!! Sizing - I think it runs a bit large. The xs fits me, and I am generally a size 6.

I LOVE this jacket. It's soft and fluffy and light as a feather, but nice and warm with a couple of thin layers underneath. I've been wearing it all the time and plan to wear it on the plane when we go to Florida in January as it is warm and will take up very little space when I fold it up and put it in a bag once I get there. This jacket is engineered by smart people who thought about what they were doing. I thought it was expensive, but this is one time when I got what I paid for. The hood fits great and stays put. The first thing I noticed was the soft, knitted cuffs that keep the wind from blowing in around the wrists. I bought it in white so it can be seen well at night. This is a wonderful jacket! I'm 5' 3 1/2" and bought a petite medium based on the measurement guide. It fits well, but would not take a large sweater under it, and is a very reasonable fit.

I bought this coat for a trip to Ireland last Christmas and it has turned out to be the best coat I have ever owned, not to mention the most comfortable one I've ever owned. It was perfect for Ireland for so many reasons: it's unbelievably lightweight and easy to pack, it's super warm and cozy, it kept the damp air out and kept me dry from the drizzle and sea spray, and the shape of the hood really kept the wind off my face. I pulled this coat back out last weekend as I prepared to go to my daughter's sailing regatta on the lake shores of a very cold Michigan day, complete with whipping wind and snow flurries. I was reminded of how much I love this coat, as I was kept perfectly warm tucked inside of it! My upper arms and shoulders get annoyed by a lot of warmer coats by the lack of maneuverability; this coat provides the perfect amount of room for movement, without being big and bulky. I am someone who is freezing all winter long, and I'm so excited to finally have a coat that is both comfy and warm! I came back on the LL Bean website today to purchase this in a different color and remembered that I never wrote a review for it... I wanted to take a moment to write this before I purchase my next one so that you could be assured that you are about to make a fabulous purchase!!!

I am very satisfied with the purchase of this jacket.I wore it on a trip to Canada where the temperature was in the high 40's and low 50's. It is lightweight but very warm and totally waterproof. I ordered a petite small and there is plenty of room for layering or wearing a thick sweater underneath. The pockets are deep and the hood is warm and comfortable. I highly recommend it.

This jacket filled the wardrobe hole when we get into late fall here in the Northeast, when it's too cold for my light shells (which also weren't waterproof), and I don't want to carry around my heavy (and fluffy) parka quite yet, especially when the afternoons are warmer. The jacket is warm (within reason), comfortable, and easy to move in. I wear an XS in L.L.Bean shirts (I have narrow shoulders), but tried these on in the Freeport store so I could see what size I could wear with layers. The Small lets me comfortably layer in multiple shirts/sweaters and a fleece, but still doesn't feel too big on it's own. The jacket goes down just over my butt which is nice and keeps the wind out, but doesn't restrict movement. The only design element I don't love is that the black shade is slightly pale and on the greenish side. It's not unattractive, by any means, just that when it's worn with true/deeper black clothes it looks a little lighter and sometimes mis-matched. Other than that, I love it!
