Jacket fits great , looks god and is functional. However, considering the price and weight, it should have more down in it. Feels like the minimal amount was used and it is not quite as warm as my old Holubar jacket that my dad sewed together years ago.

Everything about this coat is great - EXCEPT!! for the XXL sizing. I'm not that large - 6' tall 240 pounds with a measured 49" chest. The XXL size is supposed to be 48-50 but it's way too small for me. Hard to get into and once on very tight across the shoulders and back. Smaller sized people might order a size larger but if you're already in the XXL range this jacket might be too small.

Bought this 10 months ago and immediately returned for a larger size because it ran way too tight in the shoulders. The 2XL I got still fits too tight in the upper body. I went in my local LL Bean store and tried a 2XL tall size (the largest size they offer in this) but it was still too tight in the shoulders and also ran too long and baggy in the torso. The jacket itself is nice and incredibly warm, I just have really broad shoulders and big arms. I've tried to like it, but it feels like I'm in a straight jacket to wear it. If you're of normal non mutant proportions then it's no big deal. Will be returning for something else because it's just not working for me.

I think it's good to about 15 as long as it's not windy. The hood helps to keep your head and neck covered. The fabric seems to be thin and if not careful it will snag on anything sharp.

Materials: The Pertex Quantum is about as good as it gets although I feel the down sweater I have from another well known brand is a bit more "soft" to the touch. No complaints though here. The zippers are excellent, no snagging and they stay in place. Down feels lofty and warm, no cold spots. Fit: The fit is great is pretty much exactly what I want. I'm 5'7" and 150lb with an athletic build and wider than average upper back/shoulders -- no limitations with movement. Sleeve length and hem length are perfect. My only complaint is the fit on the hood, it's simply too big and has no cinch to adjust. I can turn my head in every direction inside the hood without the hood moving, the fit needs to be adjusted to fit more like the Primaloft Packaway jacket. The weight to warmth ratio is exactly what I was looking for, there's lots of versatility here to wear on it's own with a t-shirt, wear a sweater or base layer for colder days and also roll with it under my snowboard jacket/shell. I'm very pleased with the way LL Bean designed the top of the zipper so the fabric lays flat over the zipper but still soft against your face. The wrist cuff could be better with an updated design but it's not detrimental. I've been waiting 3-4yrs for LL Bean to release a green color and I couldn't be more happy with the color. I could do without the two-tone blue design though.

Doing trailwork in mountain areas, one can spend a day sweating on the end of a mcleod or pick-mattock and then freeze in camp in the evening. It is typical to have quick and unexpected weather and temperature swings. Trustworthy layers are therefore critical. I wanted to love this jacket--it has a lot going for it. It's light and packable, fits well (thanks to LLBean for making tall sizes in many of their garments!) and appears well-made. The fatal flaws for me were 1) I don't trust that there's enough insulation to provide sufficient warmth. The jacket feels mighty thin, even for 850-grade down; and 2) the hood doesn't have any adjustability for both visibility purposes and heat-retention. A much smaller issue for me was lack of internal glove-storage pockets--not a deal-breaker by any means. If the above features aren't important for you, this may be your perfect jacket. P.S. LLBean, please list product weight in your product descriptions. It is important information for backpackers.

The Ultralight 850 was everything advertised: light and warm. The only thing that kept this from being a 5-star review: a couple down feathers have worked through the seams in the hood. If that's all that happens, the 5th star will easily be warranted. If more feathers come out, the 4 will be shaky...

I purchased this jacket for the season change (winter-spring-fall); Measurements: 5'10 169lbs 16-36 in shirts medium build otherwise. So I needed a jacket that would fit the body of a medium but the arms of a monkey (36"). I opted for the medium, tall. Its fits well - there's a little looseness but nothing that bothers me. When fall-winter rolls around, I'll add a sweater and it'll be fine. It's warm. Im in NYC and the temps haven't warmed up like the rest of the nation at this stage (April 29, 2020) fluctuating around 45-50 degrees. This is the only jacket that I reach for. I'm a 'cold person' and I wear this jacket with a short sleeve t-shirt underneath and that's it. I don't feel chilly or the wind. Also, I've had the opportunity of wearing it out in the rain (april showers) and the surface actually repels most / all of the water. I walked 4 NYC blocks in the rain and I was completely dry. Most importantly, the jacket itself wasn't soaked or heavy. It wasn't pouring...but I should've had an umbrella. I've read stories about the feathers, tears and the overall fragile nature of the jacket *shrugging shoulders*. I can't speak to that yet but in my opinion, its serving its purpose for me: light, thin, warm, chest pocket, hood and not expensive. You've spent $175 on dinner - at least this lasts you more than one evening.

Not true to the size. Great quality but runs on the slim side.

Great jacket. It's especially warm if you're moving around a lot (i.e. snow-blowing and shoveling in 8deg F weather) and it's quick to dry out after a dusting of snow. I ordered size Tall/Medium to make sure it was long enough in the arms and not too big in the body. It's not as slim in the body as I would like but the arm length is perfect. Also, note that the tall sizes add a couple of inches in length to the bottom of the jacket.

I had a similar jacket that I wore for many years before it finally wore out. I bought a new almost (I thought) identical to the old one. However, the outer shell fabric is noticeably thinner, and the down feathers are already poking out. I can see that the quality has dropped significantly from the old one.

I like the fit, especially because they have tall and slim sizes. But, the insulation felt SUPER thin, like the put the absolute minimum down in the jacket

I wanted this and got one as a gift for the holiday to replace my old down sweater. Unfortunately this version is way more puffytoo puffy for a sweater version. Biggest deal breaker was no internal pocket. My old one has a great large stow pocket. This has no place to store my hat or items I need secured. Going back. For this price, it needs the details.

6'2" 187# pounds the jacket was much to small in the shoulders and tight in the forearms if I have anything with sleeves on. An XL would fit me like a tent! I was buying this to replace competitors down sweater. The LL Bean down sweater appears to have less fill than the competition. Very disappointing

I am 65 6'2" and 182 pounds. a Large is to small in the shoulders and big around the middle a XL would fit me like a tent! I ordered the LL Bean down sweater to replace a competitors down sweater from 2008 that has a broken zipper . There appears to be less down fill than Competition I am returning the jacket. I'm really d in the fit and lack of down fill. I has not able to wear the jacket to comment on the warmth. ( to small)

Nice looking jacket and comfortable to wear. I was disappointed in the quality of some of the stitching on the jacket. Several of the jacket's seams are unraveling. Not of the high quality of the LL Bean jackets of the past.

Bought this to replace an older 850 hooded jacket. This is clearly not the same item. Higher price, less quality.

Its ok not as puffy as the picture, even after I fluffed it up. I was looking for a packable puffy for back packing. 850 treated down can be very warm if there is enough in the jacket. The ultra light is just that, minus the amount that should be in there. It could be an awesome jacked if there was more down. As far as the famous LL Bean quantity its just not what it used to be. My Ultralight jacket will be returned.

3 stars as a measure of my sadness that the shoulders are too narrow. Otherwise this jacket would be perfect.

I have really liked the Ultralight 850 line. I have an unhooded jacket, hooded jacket and unhooded sweater jacket and like them all. So I purchased this hooded sweater jacket. Unfortunately, it is not on par with the others. I had noticed that the unhooded sweater jacket had inferior cuffs compared to the regular jackets and I could live with that. But the hooded sweater jacket doesn't even have a drawstring on the hood and it will be useless with any wind at all. The only reason I did not return is that I will just not use the hood.

Not sure if the feathers are supposed to be falling out, but I've only had this coat a couple months and you can see from the photo how much of a mess it's making. It's warm with a thick layer on underneath and a great fit, but not impressed with the quality.

This jacket is not that warm unless you've got some heavy layers underneath so it really doesn't do too much once you're in in low 30s. The coat hook loop broke within a few weeks and the feathers are popping out like crazy. Seems like for this price it would be a better build. Debating returning it.

Great jacket, light weight and keeps you warm. But, Jacket developed two spots where feathers starting coming out. I put two drops of Gorilla Glue on those spots and not more feather issue. Zipper on right side gave out and not longer functional.
