My husband loves the weight and warmth of the jacket but is frustrated by the plastic zipper that often gets off track and he struggles to zip up or down.
We bought this jacket to replace another one just lije it because it had a similar zipper problem.
Expect LL Bean to produce products with greater dependability and reliability.

We bought the men's and women's coats. They are great coats but they run small (ie., if you normally where a large you would need and XL.)

I own 2 previous versions of this jacket. One XXL Regular, one XXL Tall. The current version's material and insulation are the same good quality.
This "improved, new version" is 1 inch shorter than the XXL Reg. purchased 11-20-2019. It is 3 inches shorter than the XXL T. purchased 11-12-2020. They removed the two cargo pockets on the front. They removed the two-way zipper. They added two zippered 'armpit-breathers'. If you are sweating that much in a winter coat, you are not wearing the proper garment for the activity you are engaged in.
Of course, if this is a first-time purchase, you won't know what you're missing.

It fits perfectly. I love all the pockets, and it is lightweight and packable good for travelling To use it locally here just not warm enough for me.

Ordered a large in this coat and it was huge. It fit in shoulders but the fit around waist was huge. Returned for a medium. Medium was too small, short sleeves and tight in shoulders.
Have had this issues with many LLBean clothing items. I normally wear large but LL Bean sizing always has huge / loose fit below shoulders / chest. Not sure why I keep trying their clothing

I have ordered three of these, not because I love them but because I was trying to find the perfect fit. I am 6'4, 210lbs, normal thin frame, 42'' chest, 36/34 pants if that helps anyone. I bought the Large Tall and found this was way longer and bigger than needed to be. I could have worn 2 sweatshirts comfortably under this it was so big so I returned. I then purchased two Medium Talls in different colors because I couldn't choose and the one that was sent was the wrong jacket completely and then the other color in MT was almost too small. It was snug enough where I would only feel comfortable wearing a t shirt under this jacket and nothing else. It was like a slim fit Small/Tall so returning this now as well. If I was going to keep it, my only other issue is that there is like an inside seem (cant see) that when this jacket is zipped up, it gives the appearance that you have a big beer belly. Yes as others have stated, it exists which I find the only way to avoid this is pull the jacket all the way down.
Needless to say, I love the lightweight packability of this jacket, pit zips, ability to layer and everything it talks about but the sizing is super awkward. Medium tall is too small and long and the large tall is more like an XXL Tall for me. My advice would be to buy multiple sizes and then return the ones that dont fit.

I was disappointed. I thought it was going to be a heavier coat. I was trying to get my husband a similar one I got him about 10 years ago. My husband wanted to keep it.

I'm bought this jacket to wear outdoors to work in bad weather conditions and it's not waterproof at all. in snow but not rain.ended up soaked through. also not as warm as what I expected.. had to layer too. price point over rated due to underperformance. Wearing it for mild cold days it's good enough. really sad I had great expectations for this jacket.

The jacket is very warm and light and most comfortable.
I like the jacket very much BUT the hood is attached by snaps which are very poorly
constructed and don't hold the hood securely.
If the hood had a zipper instead of snaps it would be an outstanding jacket

Great jacket missing 2 things .
It needs a from the bottom up zipper so you can unzip it when you're bending or sitting without completely unzipping the jacket. It should also be just a little bit heavier while keeping the same slender feel. These are two small things that would make the jacket perfect.

Fantastic materials and details, but very unflattering fit. I'm 5'11" and 185lbs and ordered a medium. Way too roomy

Nice light weight warm jacket. Love the material & how has some stretch to it.
Downside is bottom of jacket is tight. Can't really wear a sweatshirt or sweater underneath without it being too tight & looking odd. As a smaller woman I thought the men's small would have ample room for layering. Was looking forward to wearing on my cold MN weather outdoor walks. Still trying to decide if keeping or returning.

I really liked the coat but after two years the zipper wore out. My previous winter coat lasted over 10 years with no issues and was a third of the price.

I bought this with high expectations, based on the overall positive reviews.
The jacket fit well and appeared to be well made, and looked good. But the jacket has very little loft, and did not keep me warm even in moderately windy 40+ degree weather (I wore long sleeve undershirt and sweater under it. So I returned it.

Disappointed for price paid. Seems to be slim fit, not regular. Hood does not tuck away. Will wear it but not happy about it.

This jacket is not windproof. Also front zipper is made of extremely poor quality. It was about 36*F and I was walking my little dog. I was wearing this jacket. I struggled to zip the jacket for zipper got stuck. Also, wind was going right through the jacket. Additionally there is no flap or any time of insulation in front zipper area. So the cold air just leaks through it.
In nutshell this jacket is OK when Tempratute is 40*F . Zipper is flimsy.

Fit is good, weight is good and pockets are good but the hood is a problem. When not in use there is no way to tuck hood to into a collar as pictured. For spending $249.95 the jacket is not a good value.

As I wait for my adjustment order to be delivered - a week away - I thought I might save others the same problem I had. It seems Bean's size chart is the same for all their products and doesn't truely represent each product. In my case, I am a true XL (45.5 in chest - broad shoulders...) and have ordered size XL coats from Bean before, and if anything, they fit a little loose especially in the stomach area. This XL Packawy Jacket would only fit me if I wore a t-shirt under it and even then it was very snug everywhere and the sleeves are a little short. I don't know why Bean says it fits best with a midweight layer inside because in my case It would be impossible to wear. The jacket I received, just like a chamis shirt I purchased from them a couple years ago, was clearly labeled wrong or Bean needs to customize their sizing charts for each product. On a positive note, the jacket is beautiful and I do look forward to receiving one that fits.

I received this jacket just a few weeks before I was going on a trip to Southern England in May of 2024. I washed the jacket according to the label and assumed I was ready to go. Evidently, that was a mistake, as the jacket did not repel the rain during the first rain storm in England, or the second, or the rest of them. Other than those experiences, I love the jacket. I have order LL Bean's Outerwear Care Kit to see if that will restore its water repellency.

This is a very warm, lightweight jacket that looks nice. However, be warned that the outer material is not very durable. A brush against a shrub is all it takes to cause a tear. Under no circumstances would I recommend walking off trail with it, for example. The worst part is that the fabric does not look sew-able at all. It does not seem to be "normal" fabric, but more like some kind of "film" with a slight texture. Like if you were to stick a needle through it, it would just tear more. I really liked this jacket, so I am very disappointed it tore so easily. At the very least, please label it as a "in town only' jacket in the description! Especially considering the cost!!!

Horrible molded plastic zippers that barely work and only if you're extremely careful with them. Great jacket but ruined by this feature.

I bought this as we have purchased many articles from LL bean over the years. However this is not described very well. No way does this keep you warm much below 20 degrees. I just went out to get mail at 8 degrees with just this coat over long sleeve shirt. The walk is 175' and I was cold by the time I got to the mailbox. Nice jacket for the 20+ degrees.
