I've only worn it a few times but I love how light it is. The fit is somewhat trailered and doesn't have a lot of baggy material. More importantly, it feels warm and takes up less room in my closet than my old heavy winter coat. This should suffice for a solid winter coat through all the temperatures in western PA.

This jacket is lightweight, very waterproof, and packs away into a pocket easily. It is good for cold-ish weather (so far have only been able to test in the low 30s F) but just roomy enough to be able to wear a layer underneath that would stand up to truly cold temperatures. I would give it a five except the zipper is hard to engage and that makes me question whether that will improve or get worse over time.

It does not have a 2 way zipper. That would be nice when driving or sitting. True to size at 5'11" 200# XL Quality jacket/lightweight/packs well.

The jacket was great but the XL was too small and the XXL: too big, so just didn't work.

Excellent winter jacket. Waterproofing is good, and it breathes quite well. Styling, fit and finish are top notch. I wear it for cold weather morning walks, 25 to 45 degrees Fahrenheit. Normally am size large but the Regular / Medium fits well, with room for layers. Something to consider: this jacket costs about $50 less than similar winter coats from other name-brand manufacturers.

This packaway jacket is featherweight but truly wind and waterproof. The quality is undeniable. However, I didn't find it as warm as it was rated; I would say that even layered it is suitable for temps down to the high-30s or low 40s. I also wish Bean had more jackets that are "relaxed" fit. The large is a little snug in the "slightly fitted" category and XL too much. Still, if you need a jacket for temps in the 40s, you can't do better than this one.

jacket overall ok. need to do something about the cuffs absorbs water like crazy. eliminate the cuffs as the velcro strap will give the jacket sleeves a good enough seal.

I tried Large Regular and Large Tall. Both billowed in the front. I sent them both back and ordered Extra Large Regular. That size worked for me even though I don't have "extra large" anything else.

Was expecting the jacket to be a bit thicker but as long as it's warm and waterproof that's what counts! Haven't been in +25/-25deg to test the warmth, but it seems like as long as you wear layers like you're supposed to till be warm enough. My only complaint with the Tall version is, I feel the waist length could be about an inch or so shorter and the arms SHOULD be an inch or two longer. When I stretch my arms out to reach, the wrists come a few inches back. The cost was pretty steep but I had a gift card from a return non-related. Overall I love LLBean and always recommend people to shop here because of their awesome warranties and customer service!

The Packaway jacket fits nice and feels comfy, is good-looking, and is very nicely constructed and detailed, with great touches like fleece cuffs, fleece collar trim, fleece pocket liners, adjustable outer cuffs, pit zips, velcro hood adjustment, and more. But while it's waterproof and windproof, it really doesn't have enough insulation to be a true winter coat - it's more of a shoulder-season or mild-day coat. I spent a winter with it, and found I couldn't wear it outside much below 40 degrees if I were just walking around and running errands. But I think I'll keep it, since it's useful on those days.

Liked all the features. I am older and the slimmer fit made me go up in size. That caused some overall length issues.

This jacket is truly lightweight and packable, and sized to allow comfortable use with layering. It will NOT keep you warm to -25, even without any wind. You will need an actual parka that weighs way more than this jacket. There is no magic; for best results use the right tool for the job. It will do very nicely in near-feeezing weather with layering depending on wind strength. I have worn it comfortably with a medium sweater and a lined flannel shirt for walks longer than 30 minutes in 25 degree air temperature and a windchill in mid-teens. Below 10 degrees, wind chill or actual, unless you are running 10 yards or less from one enclosed space to another, you will regret your apparel choice. It fits nicely into a range of temperatures where you would be too warm and too constrained with a true subzero parka. Another advantage is that it is truly packable, and you can carry it along when you are comfortable in a sweater or other non-water repellent garment in case it becomes wet/windy. So it is not what is advertised: a replacement for your heaviest bad-weather winter gear, good till arctic conditions; and if that is where you live, don't buy it (though in another 20 years it may be good there too.). If you live in a climate with very variable winter weather and you sweat all day in the parka that will stop you from being frozen on the way home, this can be your everyday wear. As such, it is hard for me to justify spending $250 on this. Wait for a very good discount and then purchase.

My husband always wears LLBean jackets is Large Tall and this one fit as expected. Good quality, lightweight, could've been a little warmer. One downside is that the zipper is not covered with a placket in the front.

We all have different tolerance for heat and cold. I find this jacket good over a shirt down to just past freezing. Adding a light LLB Primaloft vest under an LLB down sweater, which just fit me (42" chest) under this jacket, I'm fine in windy zero degree weather. Haven't tried it below that. In general, I love this jacket. I bought it in late October 2018. Shoveling snow in rain, snow and wind (good waterproofing!) in late January 2019, I found that the hood kept falling over my eyes. So I cinched back the cord at the back of my head a little. It slipped down again. I adjusted again. It happened again, I cinched again, and suddenly the cord pulled right out. Sounds almost trivial, but it was a real nuisance as I finished shoveling. Looking at the pulled-out ends of this rear hood cinch cord, I could find no broken threads. Was it not sewed in? Is it glued and the glue failed? I looked over the reviews again. No one else has reported a similar problem. I called LLB and asked about this. The phone associate couldn't satisfy my curiosity and we decided I'd just try another one. So I've returned the original one and now have a new one. Looking at where the rear hood cinch cord is anchored on the new one, I can't tell how it is fixed. I'm not confident it won't break again, but I love the jacket and will hope for the best. And I'll trust that if it does happen again that LLB will take care of it again, even if it happens years from now. I just wish I could feel confident that that cord is securely fixed in...

This jacket is very light, it does do a good job in high 20's and 30's but I wouldn't use this in a snow storm. I bought the tall size, very happy with the fit, its not baggy or bulky but the length and sleeves are perfect! Somewhat of an athletic fit. Downside is the price which is steep for not being a true cold weather winter jacket.

Needed something warm on its own and with enough room to layer for (Minnesota) cold, snowy, wet, windy trips to dog park. Originally got Rugged Ridge parka because it was too warm (!) and lacked "pit zips." Was worried Packaway would be too light. Turned out it's plenty warm enough and accommodates layering just fine. Pockets are good, and has inner storage (goggle pocket) for dog paraphernalia. Only mark-downs are collar area doesn't have soft liner (which is not comfortable in the cold) and no top-down-bottom-up zipper. Price was right when I got it on sale. Would recommend.

Good looking well constructed coat. I love this coat for fall weather (30-35 degrees), but it is not warm. Very little insulation. I will keep the coat to layer over a Bean down jacket for cold weather. XL was a bit loose on me. Length was perfect.

Got this jacket because I needed something warm and waterproof for my DC commute. The jacket completely stops wind and is so warm that I have to take it off on occasion. The color and functionality is perfect. The only drawback is that the jacket in more of a slim fit than a regular fit. The XL was a good fit in the waist but the length was way too long in the torso and the arms. The large was a good length but doesn't leave much room for comfort after a large meal or if you wear a bulkier under layer.

Liked the color, style, fit,but we finally got some cold weather 32-35 degree range with winds. Wind chill was around 20. Wore for three days in a row with light wool sweater and it didn't really block the wind or keep me warm. Walked three blocks to my car and I was cold. Would not recommend this for a winter jacket in N.E Ohio. Maybe late spring or early fall. Not for cold climates.

I have had this coat now for a couple of weeks and have gotten to use it in pretty cold temp. So here are my thoughts. The fit is as it says slightly fitted, not too loose nor too tight. I actually like this fit because it doesn't look that boxy but you are constricted. The built quality seems good. The zippers are not annoying to zip. The pockets are smooth fleece lined. There are ample pockets at that. The hood has insulation as well. So far it hasn't been annoying. Some winter coats the hood can be obnoxiously large to accommodate a ski helmet or so. Even with cinching them closer to your head they're still not great but so far this hood is fine. The sleeves end with a nice sweater like cuff. It is waterproof as the water stays on top of the material. I was able to take off and just shake the water off. The cinching at the end works well to keep drafts from coming up under the coat. The inside of the zipper is covered so you don't feel cold metal on your neck or chin. The coat does cover your neck as well when zipped up fully. Here is the most important part. Is this warm? I have found it to be surprisingly warm for it's weight. I have used it with a long sleeve cotton shirt and haven't been cold. I was able to test it out in 20 degree weather with wind chills into the teens and did not feel cold. One particular day it was pretty cold with slight wind. I wore a knitted shirt and was very warm. The material is breathable and it does a decent job of this along with having zippered armpit vents if you are being really active to keep you from getting too hot. The one negative I will give it is that the front hand pockets are not as warm. Your hands won't get cold but it's not as warm as I believe the pockets are over the insulation. It is not a deal breaker to me. I got the coat for $180 with a coupon emailed to me and for this price it's a great winter coat to have. Even at $250 I would recommend it. It definitely is warm, lightweight and water proof which can be hard to find in a winter coat for a decent price. I have a waterproof Northface triclimate that has a heavy weight inner fleece which cost me $300. It is no where near as warm as this coat. So this is definitely a good buy in my opinion.

I bought this jacket last fall to replace my winter jacket. The sales person said it was warm until you get to around zero. I like the jacket, but if I'm walking the dog at temperatures below 35-40 with no wind, I have to wear a heated vest underneath.

My old llbean coat was discontinued and this was the best replacement available. I wore my old coat almost everyday from Sept to May for many years. But this coat has a slim fit that eliminates adding layers underneath. The sleeves have knit cuffs that trap heat and restrict easy on and off. The hood is too big and not as adjustable as I need. The pocket designed to stuff the coat into is too big for my phone or glasses or billfold to be readily available. Really nice coat but just didn't come very close to being the replacement I hoped for.

it's not logical at first glance how/where to packaway the jacket - asking customer service - getting transferred to third agent she gives me a link to a video that alleges how to accomplish it . . . video is of jacket assumed to be warn by the female model who has small hands - so assumption is it's a small jacket - a tall large men's jacket took 6 minutes to cram into the pocket and great strain on the zipper . . . It is unlikely one could do this in the "wild" without a desk and table to work with . . . great jacket for warmth but the foldaway is an overstatement - or needs a bigger pocket . . .

Nice jacket, but I had to return it because the sizing is too small to wear it over "winter" layers such as a turtleneck plus sweater. Size up if you want to wear it over anything thicker than one ordinary shirt.

This jacket is very warm and the weight is perfect for travel. I live all of the pockets. There's a pocket for all of your essentials. I would really love it if there were a two way zipper, or a snap at the chest area, which would make this jacket versatile as the weather changes, from winter to spring.
