I'm 5'9" and weigh 165lbs. LL Bean, as a brand, seems to not market to those needing thin/ athletic cut clothes. They market to the beer gut/ spare tire dad bod kind of guys; if you're not that kind of guy look else where. I returned the item due to the excessive material around the gut area. I saw others saying the same thing in their reviews and didn't listen, but I should have. As guys the best thing we can do is find a few brands that fit our body type and stick with them. Good luck and happy hunting.

Feels awesome. Loved the Indigo Tartan colors. Typically wear XL in the slightly fitted line and Large in the Trad fit. Even though I ordered accordingly, the jacket was too big and bulky. Even if you were to layer under it. I wanted to wear it as either. Layer or not. Returned and decided not to get Large because my shoulders are too broad to have good range of motion.

I bought this for my boyfriend and I should have gotten a small but even then I feel like it would have been too big. This is def big enough to be a large and arguably big enough to be an XL. Disappointed
In terms of the product itself tho I like it very much which disappoints me even more that the sizing is so off

While I liked the shirt both in catalog and once ordered it does run large. This shirt is a very generous cut. Returned and bought something else.

Purchased as Christmas gift for my Dad. When I received it I was disappointed that the sleeves are not also sherpa-lined. I returned it - fortunately I ordered it early enough that I had time to purchase something else :)

Strange review because I do recommend the product while I am rating it poorly -- allow me to explain. The shirt/coat is a great idea and a nice product of good quality. I ordered 2, large shirts and they were in my opinion 2XL. I later ordered a medium and found that it's perfect. It will be the only medium garment that I have worn in the past 30 years. The description calls the product slightly fitted which is misleading. The size chart is off by 6 inches in the chest on both the large and the medium and 1 inch in the sleeves (in both cases the garment is larger than the size chart indicates.) I like to wear athletic fit or modern fit and I would say these are loose fit in the extreme. Buy the product, but get it a size down if you're a lean build. A heavier or stockier build should stick to the true size and it will be a little loose.

I loved everything about the shirt (and ignored another review mentioning the sleeve length). With having only 1 button there is no option to have a sleeve length adjusted. Surprising for LL Bean. Hopefully someone will get this right.

No as well made as was made in the past this isn't the only Item or the quality wasn't as good as it was in the past, and yet you still ask for the same amount of money, if not more
Disappointed,

I would have expected more for a shirt that cost 130.00 and is made in a foreign country so I returned it.

This is more like a jacket than a shirt. It has side pockets and the sleeves are lined with quilted material. My son did not like it as he was hoping it was a shirt with full lining.
Unfortunate,

Every time you move your arms in this they swish. Loudly. Breaks focus, doesn't feel as warm as the fuzzy white liner material which is only on the chest/back area. If I wanted a jacket I'd buy a jacket. If I wanted a fuzzy vest I'd buy a fuzzy vest. This is an unholy marriage of the two with a flannel covering to hide the mess that is this design.
Used to buy "Fleece Lined Flannel Shirt With Pocket" TC298190 - but now they appear to have removed the pocket. Who buys clothing without pockets!? Part of the destruction of western civilization. Seriously. Make clothes with pockets duh. And the pockets were big and comfy and rarely did anything fall out. But you all know that 'cause you're on this item, which purports to be a pocketed flannel but is really ... Swish swish swish. Seriously it's a distracting noise. I would have kept it if the liner didn't swish. I don't care if the arms bunch up my under layers when I put the jacket on - I'm not a 2 year old I can straighten a long sleeve shirt under a jacket. Huge fail taking a previously good product and making it point to a different product and then introducing this garbage that's worse than the original. I bet the fuzzy liner pills up and gets scratchy or full of dirt / animal hair. Fleece lined flannel. With pockets please.

After so many years of buying products from L.L. Bean, I am very disappointed and upset at this Sherpa
lined flannel shirt. I ordered a medium. It turned out to be much much bigger than even a large! I am afraid to re-order because a medium might still be too big.
Last year I ordered a medium in the flannel lined shirt and it fit just fine. When I compared the two of them this year, there was a huge discrepancy.
Even though you have a return policy, it is still inconvenient to go through all of that and not be able to give a Christmas present on the proper day
In the future, I will be much more wary of buying clothing from L.L. Bean, which is sad after purchasing products for close to 50 years.
The shirt also had a very rancid
smelled to it. For whatever reason, I don't know??
In the past, I have always known that L.L. Bean sizing almost always runs larger than is stated, but this product was totally mismarked.
Also, it may be helpful for L.L. Bean to make tapered or fitted clothing for more of its items because even the regular size is quite boxy for people who don't have a big waist or hips.

I'm 6'3", 180lbs and normally wear a large. I was swimming in this thing. Maybe a small would've fit me, but didn't bother trying. It's super soft but the overall fit is just weird - considering how big it is, the collar was too small and resulted in a weird overall look.

Ordered this "shirt" in an XL tall, as I always do (I'm 6'4", 210 lbs). The garment is far too large and too bulky, and can't possibly be tucked into a waist band. There's too much material in the body and in the arms - it might work for someone in the 250-275 lb. range, but not for someone with a regular build (it makes me look shapeless, as if I'm wearing someone else's outsized garment).. And the "Black Watch" plaid is far darker than shown on the website.

We paid $120 for this jacket. My 73 year old dad loved. It's soft, warm and also looks great. After some time, my dad started noticing in the elbow of the jacket that it was ripping and getting really thin. When you get it, it feels like its really thick & durable. When you pay that much for a jacket, you don't expect it to be thinning in areas or ripping anywhere. He wants another one, but its not worth it to spend that on a jacket and not get much time out of it.....

Just received the men's sherpa-lined scotch plaid shirt. Ordered size large as I have done previously for LL Bean shirts. Well, this "shirt" is huge. I am 71" tall and 175 lbs and this shirt, more like a jacket, elicits laughter when I put it on. Not the response I would hope for. Look like a refrigerator with a plaid shirt! And then, I'm charged $6.50 to return this over-sized "shirt". Won't be purchasing anymore clothing from LL Bean.

Not true to size, way too large. Ordered a medium and would have needed a huge santa claus belly to fill up all the extra fabric.

My wife bought the women's version of this and loves it for wearing around the house as a "cozy" layer, so she bought the men's version for me. Unfortunately, the men's version is labeled as a shirt but it's really a jacket, so it's far less comfortable and not suitable for what we were hoping. Here's how they compare:
Women's:
- Standard fit
- Button closures
- Soft, cotton-lined sleeves
Men's:
- Oversized fit (like you'd wear over a couple layers)
- Snap closures
- Course, taffeta-lined sleeves

I bought this shirt about a year go and I do wear it regularly when the temperature drops, however, it just didn't stand up to what I expected from LL Bean. This exact same thing happened with a Katahdin Iron Works hoodie. See attached photo.

I bought this Nov 2022 and the button on one of the sleeve has already come off. This shirt has been lightly worn as a jacket (hasn't even been washed yet). So, buyer beware.

Purchased 3 weeks ago and a button has already ripped off. I wore it ONCE to dinner and washed it once per the instructions. A button ripped off the first time I actually buttoned and unbuttoned it.
I purchased this on another website and I can't return it because it is worn and the tags are removed. What a waste of $100.

Bought this for my adult son who likes snaps because he lacks fine motor skills to use buttons. He enjoyed the warmth of this cozy shirt in our cool weather. Unfortunately, the quality is not great and the shirt does not last. After 1 year of wear the outside of the flannel has pilled and the snap on the sleeve no longer stays shut. I was hoping it would last a bit longer than 1 year for the price.
