Nice weight and construction, wore with Field Jacket on a rainy, raw day and was not cold the whole time.Bought grey and just ordered a second color after wearing the first one 4-5 times

The gift went well, and was received well. L L Bean you can't go wrong.

My husband would wear these shirts every day if he could. They are comfortable and warm and come in so many colors that you could wear a different one every day if you wanted. If these shirts could be put in the dryer, I would give them five stars!

This is a great shirt either alone or layered. Wears well, dries quick, packs easily and keeps shape. I've at least a 1/2 dozen. You can't do worse for a simple shirt that keeps you warm. Suggestion for LL Bean is either a few more color options, maybe a winter weight with a fleece lining or similar would

Comfortable and warm as an under layer. Having heard it runs large, I ordered a small that fits perfectly (I'm 5'8", 160#).
Haven't washed it yet, but I plan on air drying due to shrinkage concerns.

The fabric used with my recent purchase is of much lighter weight than that of my other River Driver's Shirts. Granted, the others are over ten years old. None of them are worse for the wear. Also, their tags say that they were made in the U.S.A. not Canada. Otherwise, the item appears to be well made and I hope it is as durable as my others. Only time will tell.

I bought this shirt on a whim, not knowing whether I'd like it or not. I then brought it as part of a lightly packed trip through Spain and really came to appreciate how rugged, warm, and stylish it is. With a thin wool and rayon layer underneath and a light waterproof jacket over, this was plenty warm for temperatures between 35-70 F. Like all things LL Bean, it is well-constructed. I like the buttons, the substantial collar, and the unfinished bottom hem, all of which add up to a rugged but not flashy look.
The outside appears to be a wool and cotton blend, while the inside is cotton. This is a good, moderate-weight item. The wool content means that this shirt also resists smells, so you can wear it a couple days in a row on the road, and it also dries more quickly than an all-cotton model would. I machine washed and hung dry it one morning, and it was dry by the evening.
My only concern - and the reason I gave it four stars - is that the single wash and hang dry seems to have shrunk the shirt in length substantially. That is fine, but if it shrinks any further in length, I'll have to return it and get the larger size.
A great shirt. Thanks to LL Bean's excellent customer service, the shirt's great utility, and its classic rugged style, I can recommend it without reservation.

The quality of the shirt is excellent, but my husband has complained that the material is very "rough and itchy". In the past I have purchased the mini-waffle shirts, and he prefers them because they are softer and do not itch.
I have washed the shirts and hope that they will be more comfortable after repeated washings.
I have ordered several items of clothing for both myself and my husband over the years and have been very satisfied, and I will continue to order clothing in the future.

Good quality warm shirt that must be washed and dried before it fits appropriately.
One Caveat: Wash with dark clothing or by itself as the dye bleeds and causes light colored clothing to be dyed!!

I have used this henley before and the extra layer makes a difference - esp. in my not-yet-heating-on room during fall/winter mornings...so I ordered another one.
One thing that throws me off - their size charts says -
Fits chest measuring 34-36 38-40 42-44 46-48 (XL)
that is - 46-48 for XL. That would be a little snug for me - still I ordered the XL and am happy to report that the chest is ~ 50" for XL...I guess it might shrink a little after washing...

I hadn't purchased a river driver's shirt for a number of years. This one fits well and I love the color (Vintage Indigo Heather).

Warm shirt, but I'd prefer that it have a cozier feel. Despite the cotton interior, it's still a bit stiff and scratchy, though I find with many repeated washes over time that that aspect eventually dissipates. I bought the men's shirt for myself because I could find no similar product in women's wear and prefer a longer length as well. I also chose it a size up so that I could put it in the dryer. I've purchased this style shirt for my husband in multiple colors over the years because it's a favorite of his.

Compared side by side with previously purchased River Driver's shirt , this is thinner. Hopefully the quality will be maintained in my favorite llbean shirt.

The river Driver is great for layering in the cold North Easten climate. But a Henley, with the buttons, does not layer nearly as well as the crew neck. The Henley is fine if that is what you are wearing but for layering the crew neck is far superior.

The shirt has a bite of an itch to it-must be the wool component.

The shirt was very itchy, probably due to the wool in it, and had to be returned

I have been eyeing the River Driver Henley for a while, and according to the description, I was expecting a much heavier shirt. I realize that this shirt has two layers, which may help block the cold, but I recently purchased a waffle Henley at my local Wholesale Club that was almost as heavy for a fraction of the price. This is not a bad shirt, but I feel that the description is somewhat exaggerated and it is overpriced.

The shirt is very nice with a thick, warm weave. The collar is very thick & looks funny the way it sits. The shirt seems to come out of the dryer wrinkled & stays that way. Overall comfort is good though.

Soft fabric, good fit, but the hems and finishing stitches around neck, placket, and sleeves looks cheap and unfinished. Expected a more quality 'finish' from LL Bean.

This shirt exemplifies both LL Bean"s innovative brilliance and recent Bean counting. The soft cotton lining provides a great transition from the warm protection of the wool shell. But the recent iteration of the River Driver Shirt lacks the wool density and warmth of the originals I bought five years ago. Seems this is a recurring theme throughout the catalog.

No where near as nice as the one I purchased December 2023, same item number and made in Vietnam. This item was made in Canada and the bottom hem is not as nicely finished. It is still nice but not as nice as the previous one.

This does not fit as described. I'm a relatively slim, not very tall person, usually between a medium and a small at LL Bean. Even with a medium, this shirt is very snug through the body, but very long in the sleeves and body length, and wide in the shoulders. The small is more "normal" in sleeve and body length, while the body is almost form-fitting. The shirt is, however, very soft and warm. Hoping the small doesn't shrink in the wash. (You have to hang dry it.)

Washing and drying are a bit fussy and if you don't follow the instructions the shirt loses its softness and fit.
