This is an excellent shirt. The material is extraordinary, unique and literally awesome it's thick and heavy, and has a slightly rough (some say wonderfully itchy), warm, authentic feel to it. I absolutely love it. Have forgotten how many I have purchased, perhaps 20+! Two suggestions: 1) Put a hem at the bottom. 2) Give it a three button placket. It's one of the articles of clothing that makes L.L.Bean a special venue for clothing. (There have been some changes to certain trademark clothes that were not improvements, please no more change to them.) I remain a loyal long-term customer of L.L.Bean.

Very warm and cozy. My only issue is the feel against my skin. A little rough. I'll admit I haven't washed it yet because I'm afraid it will shrink to much. All around, I'm satisfied.

This is an excellent shirt for layering. I would have given it a 5 star rating if it did not itch somewhat around the neck. That was resolved by placing it above a cotton tee. All around it is a warm, good looking garment. The fit is right for me with a long torso in a Tall XL, but you must dry it flat as the wool/cotton will shrink in a tumble dryer.

ORDER DOWN! Of all the shirts I ordered according to the size chart this one was the largest. They were all too large but this one seemed more like two sizes too large. 43" chest. This shirt had room to spare in the chest, the length was unwieldy and the shoulder seams were hanging off my shoulders by an inch or so. Nice fabric and color, although I would prefer if it were not heathered. I will probably re-order this in a smaller size.

I have been buying this shirt for several years. I'm getting to dislike the cold weather more and more, and I use the shirt as an undergarment, for layering. A little expensive, but when that wind is howling, it really helps. Yes, you do have to be careful about drying it. No electric drying! But that is the same for any wool garment. I like the wool because it has a slight bite to it. Some folks don't. I have always preferred the crew neck, because it made me feel even more tucked in, and unfortunately that style is no longer available. My most recent purchase, with the Henley neck, is a well made garment. But it is much lighter in weight than shirts from previous years. I wish I could get the heavier, clunkier crew neck. But I'm still keeping this shirt because it is such a nice product. So my analysis is that the shirt is a good purchase, not quite the same as the older style.

I've used these for years and typically wear them over a base layer and add a third layer as needed. They are comfortable and add warmth without bulk. If I had to ask for anything it would be for L.L. Bean to go back to offering these in the two color raglan sleeve versions.

I love this warm layering shirt. I wear it all winter to walk dogs and for hockey games. It's the base layer I use for seriously cold weather in Minnesota. My only complaint is that there isn't a women's version and while it does soften up, the material can be a bit harsh and sometimes is itchy. My husband has several of these shirts and he has no problems with the itchiness but I usually wear a T-shirt underneath so I don't get scratchy. These shirts last a decade or more. Good investment.

I like this shirt a lot. Only issue is it is a little snug in the forearms. Otherwise fits pretty good. I like that it is heavy enough, but not too heavy - so it is warm, but not too warm.

In the description they make reference to the 2 layers which could sound like the shirt would be bulky. Not so. These layers are thin but very effective at warmth and softness. This is an incomplete review at this point as I have not yet washed the shirt to see if it does not shrink and keeps its warmth and softness. But hey, this is a LL Bean product so have no fear.

I wanted to get a 2nd Henley after having great success with one I bought a few years back. Comfortable and easy to throw on over a t-shirt for that extra layer. These are great shirts for the colder seasons. Great for wearing around the house or if I'm out & about.

I have 8 of these shirts half are henley the others are crew neck they are comfortable warm perfect for winter wear alone or under another shirt when your outside in the cold I would give them 5 stars except I have one crew neck that material around the neck puckered and sagged after being washed making look like its worn out or stretched,it is one of my newer ones, other than that they are great cold weather wear

I only purchased this shirt because L.L. Bean has discontinued the Crew Neck River Driver shirt. The Henley is a comfortable shirt, but not as comfortable as the Crew Neck version. I really wish that L.L.Bean would bring back the Crew Neck River Driver shirt.

I am pleased with my purchase of the River Driver's Shirt. It is extremely well made and surprisingly warm. I wear it hiking and doing outside chores. Often I can remove an outer layer in 50-60 degree weather and just wear the RD Shirt. Unfortunately I am between medium and large sizes-- so it is a little loose. Is it possible to wash in warm water to shrink it slightly? I'd appreciate your recommendations.

Warm and comfortable fit. Great for layering in cold weather but looks great worn alone for a casual look. It does contain wool for those who may have an issue with that.

The two ply shirt is very comfortable and surprisingly warm. They do shrink some. I usually wear a large, but I wear an XL in these. You may want to order a size up. Great shirt though.

These are nice shirts. I already had one in red that I wear a lot. I bought this for a wildlife safari in Africa -- the outfitter said to avoid dark colors because mosquitos benefit from those colors, making this color unacceptable, so I returned it. But it is a very nice shirt.

I bought this shirt as a cold weather fighter and it pretty well fills the bill but I was hoping it would be just a little heavier. Overall it is a good shirt that I will wear a lot in the cooler months of Upper Michigan.
