These are nice shirts. I already had one in red that I wear a lot. I bought this for a wildlife safari in Africa -- the outfitter said to avoid dark colors because mosquitos benefit from those colors, making this color unacceptable, so I returned it. But it is a very nice shirt.

I bought this shirt as a cold weather fighter and it pretty well fills the bill but I was hoping it would be just a little heavier. Overall it is a good shirt that I will wear a lot in the cooler months of Upper Michigan.

Very warm for it's thickness or lack there of. It would be a five but it can get slightly itchy and has large flap openings compared to other Henley's from different brands.

I ordered the two layer River Driver's Henley for my husband for warmth. Due to the two layers of fabric, you should NOT put this in the dryer. I would have given the shirt five stars except for this.

Bought this for a friend of the family for Christmas. The navy color is very nice and the shirt seems to be well made. Hopefully it holds up after being washed. He seemed to like it. Wore it the next day to a family gathering.

Warm and comfortable. A little over priced. I will only buy them when on sale.

Somewhat small for a men's medium. This was for my very tall 12 y.o. son who weighs 150 lbs. I usually order him men's small and ordered a medium to give him some growing room, but it "just" fit and knowing he's still growing, he'd outgrow it within a couple of months. Additionally, this is made from wool and will most likely shrink if accidentally put in the dryer. So, I decided to return it.

This shirt is a very nice quality shirt. I bought a regular for my son and a tall for my husband. (6'3", 193 lbs ) they both fit very well. I love'llbean clothing. Their tall fits my husband perfectly! However, be cautious with washing these shirts. My son dried the regular in the dryer and it shrunk. I take them out slightly damp and finish by line drying. He still can wear it but it's snug.

My third River Driver shirt, just like the past two this one fits well (XL-Tall), is comfortable & warm. Unlike the last two shirts, which I can just throw in the dryer after washing, this one recommends that it be dried flat to prevent shrinking, which takes considerably longer. If that doesn't matter to you, then buy one, I don't think I'd buy another with that "feature."

Previous Large proved to be tight. Ordered X-Large this time. Don't know if this would apply to all customers ie. buying a size larger.

I like the fit and the look. Until 2 or 3 washings, the shirt was a little itchy on my upper chest around where the buttons are. Other than that, I like this shirt a lot.

For reference, I bought this item as an XLT (tall) size, It fits me well.
Wonderfully warm with the double layers of material.
The only thing I don't like about it is that it looks very rumpled after washing. I've never had this happen to any other pullover shirt like this.

The quality and performance of this henley is 5 stars. The more you wear/wash it, the better it gets.
I'm knocking off 1 star because for me, at least, the fit is too baggy. Especially when you consider this garment is best used as a casual base layer and therefore should fit closer to the body. Going down a size does little to mitigate this issue because then the sleeves are too short.
Needless to say, this particular garment DESERVES to be offered in slightly fitted and/or slim fit options.
Come on, L.L. Bean, you can do it! :-)

Makes a nice under garment for a sweater or sweatshirt or makes a really nice outer garment for the cooler but not hot climes.

I like the looks of this shirt/light sweater, and it is very comfortable and also comfortably warm - in other words, it breathes well and feels good against the skin. My only suggestion for an improvement would be a small breast pocket that could hold my cell phone

This shirt fits well, definitely not baggy anywhere. The collar was a bit scratchy the first couple of times I wore it but a washing seems to have improved it some and I hope subsequent washings will further improve it. Note that tossing it into the dryer will cause the shirt to shrink according to instructions. The best thing is the shirt is very warm!

My husband said he felt the inside has the feeling of a bit of the wool. Which to me translates to it is not as soft on the inside as he would have liked. I suggest that LL Bean highlight that so people who don't like the feel of wool with know. Since I bought the shirts for my husband It was really my fault. I just never thought they would have wool in them.

Size runs small. I normally wear an xl but had to return for an xxl. Lucky I did as it shrunk a bit after first wash.

As noted, it is warm. I washed it with other stuff. Who reads labels? Shrunk a bit. Still serviceable and looks and feels great. Like the fit and comfort and sizing of Bean gear.

This shirt is warm and well-made. The idea of having an inner cotton layer against the skin and an outer wool layer for warmth is excellent. It has nice stitching. For design purposes, I would like to see three buttons instead of two on the placate.

This shirt just arrived. As soon as I put it on it was itchy. I have been buying clothes from LL Bean for 40 years and I also own a few River Driver shirts as well. Never has a shirt felt like this before. I even washed it to see if that would help but it never changed so it's going back. I understand that LL Bean does not make 90% if not 100% of the clothes they sell but the quality has always been top notch. I am giving this 4 stars because the quality is there but there is clearly an issue with the material because it is not supposed to it. Has anyone else experienced this problem?

I received this Riverdriver Henley this past Christmas. I own two others, purchased 2004/2005 and absolutely love them, warm and stylish. This shirt is not quite the generous, thick layers the older ones are. It still has the same classic looks but not the same weight/ thickness as previous shirts. I guess the old saying applies "they don't make them like they used to". It is still a good looking, LL Bean, original.

Double thick. Cotton inside; wool outside. It's a really great shirt, really warm, perfect for cold climates. When laundering, make sure to read the care instructions because it has wool - so, keep that in mind in terms of drying.

This warm shirt is a staple in my husband's wardrobe three seasons of the year. It fits loosely but the fabric is structured enough to not look sloppy. He has the Apple Cinnamon and Gray Heather colors from about four years ago and while these comfy shirts are holding up well, I bought the Loden Heather to add to his rotation. The newest shirt feels much thinner than the older shirts - my husband commented as much straight away. The cotton/wool/nylon ratio is claimed to be the same but the new shirt is not quite as warm. Lovely color and structure still but no longer a 5-star product.
