I've been buying Bean boots for many years, and they just keep getting better and better. As always the latest edition was comfortable right out the box, no break-in needed, but it appears more durable that previously. The previous weak point was the top of the heel counter, which used to wear out within a few months, but this has been fixed.

I bought these for my husband to take on our vacation to the Big Island, as we planned to do a lot of walking and hiking. He said they fit right out the box, no need to break in at all. We walked on all sorts of terrain, and these shoes handled it all. My husband liked them so much, he wants to find more places locally to hike more! A win all around!

I purchased these shoes for every day wear during the summer months as my Maine hunting shoes are a bit warm. I love them as they are cool give me good support and traction. I ordered them in my regular shoe size in a medium width and they are a perfect fit. They are also a shoe that can be worn for casual wear too. Thanks LL. Bean for another great product.

These are very light and flexible yet give great support. I am retired and bird for three or more hours a day. No longer are my feet tired and painful after birding.
I highly recommend these shoes and plan to get the waterproof and boot models for the winter.

As always from LL Bean, a well crafted and comfortable shoe. Love the ventilation so that at the end of the day your feet aren't dog tired and sweaty.

Believe how wonderful these shoes are! I'm not a *BOT*, I'm a real LL Bean "Outsider".
I also have a pair of the "Waterproof" version of these and they are the most warm and dry shoes I've ever owned. I have worn them in the wet A LOT (I live in Oregon) and these babies kept my feet dry, but best of all WARM!
I bought the *Ventilated* pair because the others were so warm. These Ventilate shoes are just what I wanted!! Cool, comfortable and awesome! You have to break them in, but then...WHOO HOO!!! *BUY THESE*!

I am probably the most difficult guy to find shoes that work that you can find. After buying and returning other shoes from just about every chain you can name, including LL Bean, I found these. So far, after about a dozen wearings, they are working quite well. When it comes to shoes I am something of the proverbial "Princess and the pea". Much to my delight, these shoes (a) are not hot, (b) give reasonable support overall comfort and fit is good, (c) pricing is great, (d) and I am not anxious to kick them off after a few hours of wear. I did have to buy up a bit which others might want to consider. I went for a size up and a wide shoe and, well, it seems to work. My guess is that this is not my last pair of these.

Bought these last winter when we got a new BT pup. The dog and I walk together for a bit over a mile three times a day every day of the week. That is 1100 miles of sidewalk and trail walking in all types of conditions and the shoes have held up incredibly well with 2 exceptions. The lining in the heel box for both shoes has worn through and I had to put better insoles in the shoes since the LL Bean soles were pretty bad. I wear these with a light pair of sport socks and have had no problems with blisters or the temp of my feet in hot or cold weather. A new pair is in my future. You won't be disappointed with these shoes.

I ordered the wide version of the hiking shoes. The shoes are nicely designed and constructed. They fit really well and are very comfortable. Great job, LLBean!

I highly recommend the Men's Trail Model 4 Ventilated Hiking Shoe, and here's why:
(1) Ultra Lightweight; lightest shoe I've ever owned.
(2) Dries quickly; even waterproof shoes inevitably get soaked on multiday backcountry trips. My strategy is to go with lightweight shoes that dry out quickly, and these fit the bill.
(3) Breathability; these shoes don't retain odor.
(4) Adequate traction.
(5) Versatility; I've worn these for a week trekking in the North Cascades, and every week in the office on casual Fridays. Brown shoes work great for a minimalist trying to keep the wardrobe light and simple.
(6) Durability; they have held up great!
(7) Price; inexpensive shoe, especially for LLBean.
(8) LLBean forever guarantee; if you're dissatisfied just return them.
I don't work for LLBean and I have not received any sort of benefit from them for writing this review. I just think this is a great shoe and decided to share my thoughts with the internet instead of doing homework.

Really impressed having switched from my regular Merrill purchase. Excellent build quality and very comfortable. Like the fact they are vented keeping feet nice and cool.

I have thick custom orthotics and have difficulty finding shoes and even boots that are deep enough to fit the orthotics without having my heel come out when I walk. These actually work - yay!

As expected the fit, the comfort, and support is great. I have an older pair, which I got plenty of wear out of. Also have a pair the waterproof happy with those. I plan on hiking around the hills and valleys of Joshua tree this spring and summer

Well stitched. Comfortable.
Sole has good traction and shock absorption. Very well ventilated; good for summer, spring or early fall. Too ventilated for winter in my opinion.
In all very pleased with purchase and pricing.

Despite having too many light hiker type boots and shoes I bought these because I reasoned that the lack of waterproofing would render them cooler in dry climates and seasons.
That reasoning proved to be correct.
From the first wearing the Trail Model 4 Ventilated Hiking Shoe felt perceptively cooler than any other shoe I own. And wearing them with a Coolmax/Drimax type sock practically induces frostbite!
Reasonably light weight, a fit as expected in my usual size for LL Bean shoes/boots and good looks with casual attire make these my favorite daily shoe for the Summer of '16.
Tip: I gave them a light silicone spray out of the box and a couple of unsightly spills on the toes from who-knows-what disappeared with just water and a stiff fiber brush.
