Although I've purchased many Bean products over the years, I find these boots to chaff my skin at the top of the boot and also on the top corners of the tongue. They are stiff, and, I find, unforgiving. I am returning them.

I've been wearing Bean boots for fifty years, and this is the first time I've been disappointed. The insulation goes an inch up from the sole, and the uppers are raw leather. That's uninsulated. Nowhere in the product description does it say "partly insulated".

I'm a forester in Wisconsin. I wear Bean Boots most months of the year. When the bottoms wear our I send them back to Bean, they put new rubber soles on them and I'm good to go. I had a pair of Bean insulated bottom boots that finally wore out after 25 years (not enough good leather left on the uppers to sow another rubber bottom to. I liked those boots because they kept my toes warm but were not bulky. I was told they no longer made the pair I had but these were better and lighter. I ordered a pair. I have been disappointed in them since I got them. My feet are always cold. I'm not sure what season these boots are good for - but winter in Wisconsin is not one of them. Excellent quality - just not warm.

I had high hopes for this boot knowing several people that own and enjoy them. However, for me these boots are unwearable. I tried on a pair of 11 W (my normal size) and they were so long that even with wool socks there would have been over 2 inches of extra room. So I ordered a pair of 10 W and when they arrived I was sad to find out that they were so narrow that my feet were hanging off the side at the mid point. This made them so uncomfortable that I had to take them off after wearing them around the house for about five minutes. I hope in the future LL Bean either releases a 4E version or cut down the length on these since they run very long. With all that being said they appeared to be made very well and of quality material, but for me they are not an option.

For me, a hundred bucks for a pair of boots is expensive. I purchased these for my brother for Christmas. When they were received I was expecting the boots to be lined throughout with some kind of insulated padding and they weren't. The area where the top of the boot came on his leg cut into his shin. It should be part of the description that the insulation does not cover the entire inside of the boot. I returned the boots and am waiting for my refund.

All of the information advsied to order one size down if wearing with thin or medium socks, so I did. they arrived today - way too small. I should have ordered regular size for medium socks. I will have to return and may not reorder.

I ordered these trying to replace old "Maine Guide Boots" of 30 years ago. I didn't find the 10", GoreTex, Thinsulate boots until after I had returned these. The "insulation" in these is only at the bottom and looks like it has an edge that would rub blisters on my ankles. By the time I would get the 10" model I would hopefully be out of winter. Maybe next year. I never wore these.

I know LL makes a great product and I was very much so looking forward to these for snow plowing and shoveling this year. However, I was very disappointed with the overall comfort. These had no comfort or foot support what so ever, extremely hard sole. I would like to exchange for a different boot.

Before ordering the boot I called a LLBean customer rep to consult about the size I should order. I advised that I planned to wear the boot with a pair of crew socks. I was advised to order a full size smaller than my shoe size which is an 8. I ordered a pair of 7's. I opened the box with great anticipation only to be severely disappointed as I could hardly get my foot in the boot. It was way too small.
I returned the boots which LLBean received on January 8th. Today is January 25th and I have yet see the refund on my credit card account.
I have ordered other LLBean items which I greatly enjoy. This order, however, was a bust. I hope to have better luck next time.

I have ordered and returned (and paid for a return fee each time) 3 sizes. My son wears a size 12. The size 10, 11 and 12 are all way to big.

Stay away! These boots are not waterproof. Every time I wear these boots in wet conditions the bottom of my foot/sock gets drenched. I went to the store for a defective product and they told me the boot is not waterproof due to the stitching, so water can penetrate. They recommended that I put paper towels at the bottom of my boot to soak up the water when I wear them. To me, that is a terrible solution and defeats the purpose of purchasing these boots. I have cheaper boots that do a better job. Do not purchase these boots.

I can't understand why these boots ran so big. Never seen anything like it. Then a fee to return this item means I won't be ordering anything again.

I have Bean gumshoes that are a wide and this boot is definitely not a wide. The boot is narrow with a high painful arch. Not what I am used to from Bean. I will be returning them.

First, you need to make a wider boot, especially when customers are likely to wear heavier socks. Second, you need to offer the wider boots for ALL of your boots and shoes. I even ordered your EE in a larger than normal size for me; however, it was still too narrow.

Yes, the boots look nice, but I can't figure out how these boots have such good reviews. The fit is atrocious and there are no half-sizes. The boots are surprisingly narrow too. But what is baffling is the fact the Thinsulate is only on the bottom and around the edge creating a weird 1/4" lip around the base of the shoe. It's super uncomfortable, and the shoes do not retain heat. The cold easily infiltrates the rubber. I wore these with wool socks for a walk on a snowy day and my toes were numb with an hour. The other problem is the tread is non-existant and the traction terrible if it's snowy or icy out.
I was just getting ready to return these but LLBean just revised their return policy and hosed the honest customers who have had a bad experience with their products. Very disappointed in the boot and in the company. I definitely won't be buying from LLBean again.

The boot size fit well and seemed like it would last. However, the boot fit was very uncomfortable. Specifically, at the top of the boot there is no padding and rubs the ankle/shin area. I had thick socks on but this only marginally helped. Most other manufacturers have more comfortable padding in the upper half of the boot.
Sadly, I returned the boots.

First, I design leather gloves. That said, I was very disappointed in the quality of the leather uppers for this boot. The boot is unusable for me. The leather is so stiff that it chaffed my ankles even with heavy socks. For a signature product of your company, I suggest you review your tannery and find a new one with less "boardy' leather. I would urge you to add a padded edge to the top.

I should prob rewrite my review because people aren't understanding my situation. I ordered my usual size 7, because that's my bean boot size. The thinsulate model I got was the same size but bigger. Does that make more sense? I think that when it was made, the stamp on the tongue was either wrong or they used the wrong sole size. And there was a lot of glue hanging out. Therefor it did it did not fit like my other bean boots.

guess i just have bad luck.these were a gift from my wife. this is the second pair.first pair had some seam and weird weld marks in the rubber part. after waiting months for a replacement this pair were a worn one time. appears the glue didnt hold.i cant see these boots having any use but boppin around the house because they would leak.the extra insulation is kinda a joke for the extra 30$. dont know why but im gonna try the Maine Hunters next and hope those are better.

This boot has a thick ridge (about 1/4 inch) where the thinsulate ends (just at the top of the ankle) - which is also where the rubber meets the leather. I don't know if the pair I got were poorly constructed or this is just bad design, but they are extremely uncomfortable, and guaranteed to cause blisters.
