We were surprised at how little lining and insulation these boots have for a $92 pair of boots. We will keep them for Spring and Fall, but are not confident they are the answer for a Wisconsin winter.

These boots are not intended to keep your feet warm in snow for any extended period. Do not buy these boots if you think they'll keep your feet warm. They are wonderful if you're walking a short distance in snow, but if you want to keep your feet warm try on of the other boots - probably the Storm Chasers. I have not problem with these boots other than they are really, really cold even with heavy wool socks. Unfortunately Bean is out of stock in my size for the Storm Chaser model.

I had a very similar pair of boots from LLBeans that I bought many years ago and they were terrific - kept my feet warm and dry like no other boots.
My normal shoe size is 9 1/2 E so for the old pair I had ordered the 10 Wide and that worked out well. So for the new pair I ordered the same size and it fit very well despite LLBean saying a 9 1/2 person should order the 9 boot - so that's just FYI.
While the new boots LOOKED the same as the old one and said they had thinsulate, they only had thinsulate for the bottom part, the dark brown part. This was a surprise even though I had read the whole description.
To get the built in thinsulate lining for the top part of the boot, one needed to buy a different boot. Lack of a thinsulate liner for the top part of the boot can cause two problems:
1) That part of your leg can get cold. So far at 20 degrees, this has not been a problem. My feet are very sensitive to the cold, but my leg, above the ankle, isn't affected so much - though for colder weather I don't know if it will be a problem
2) The leather was extremely stiff and with no soft liner between the leather and my shin, the top of the boot scrapped the skin off my shin. I added another pair of socks as protection and eventually the leather began to soften a bit and I got some relief by not putting the lacing all the way to the top.
I don't like to return things if they're at all usable and I've been able to find workarounds for the above. However, LLBeans should make it crystal clear in some obvious place what the difference is between the boots and for this pair "thinsulate" means "thinsulate ONLY for the bottom part of the boot".

Over rated. I gave the boots 2 stars for the fact that they definitely are waterproof and because they are made in the U.S. normally wear size 12.5-13 wide. These are pretty big as a 12 regular, but fit well with thick socks.

This boot was not lined. I wanted the thinsulate lining. Couldn't pull it on that is why I gave it these. ratings.

I ordered the lined boots at additional cost. They were lined but only in the foot, not along the ankle or up the sides, which was not specified on the website. I also had my feet measured, in order to be sure the sizing was correct, and followed the instructions online. I found the sizing very confusing. The boots did not fit (too small). I returned the boots for a refund but never received confirmation that they'd been returned and don't really like being charged to return the boots. There are more conformable, high quality boots out there, at similar prices. Not digging the LL Bean hype, I bought boots elsewhere.

I usually am 9.5 I ordered the 9 and it was tight. Returned it the next day 2 weeks ago - am still waiting on the credit. I ordered the 10 wide and it's on backorder for 6 weeks.
Been a long time customer - first time I've seen customer service this slow.

This was to be a Christmas present for my son. He wears a size 12 in all of his shoes, but LL's website says you should order ONE size smaller in these boots. I called first before ordering. The sales girl said order the 12 since my son would probably be wearing thick socks. They were WAY TOO BIG! I returned them to exchange for a size 11. It took several weeks for us to get the new size. They were too big! I went ahead and ordered size 10 and then returned the size 11 for a refund. I was hoping this would eliminate some time. It took several weeks to get the refund. My son loves the boots, but the order, exchange, refund process just takes so long. I even emailed customer service regarding the exchange and they said they were backed up by two weeks (this was the size 11 after Christmas). So, the boots are great, if you have the time to wait on a proper size.

The boots fit well but I noticed that my feet are getting cold . I thought that getting thinsulate would keep my feet warm.

Returning as the thinsulate no longer covers the entire inside of the boot as it did in the past and I had not read the description making an assumption they would be the same. Husband wants to return them. I am not sure why this change was deemed necessary.

The Thinsulate is only on the bottom of the boot. I really expected the entire boot to be thinsulated

I know this is a time tested boot, but I just didn't like the fit for me. The tongue bunched up and the boot felt not cushioned at all. It just wasn't a good feel or fit.

Two problems with the Bean boot. The first is that it ran way too big. I have worn a size 10 EEE shoe for decades. Which is what I ordered. It was way too long, with a heavy sock. But the bigger problem is the design. There's no tongue, instead there's this flap of leather that is stitched into the front of the shoe, under the laces. This was loose, and floppy, with a big fold in the middle when you try to lace it up. There's not enough room for it to fit under the laces. Very uncomfortable. I sent it back. I didn't want to review this boot, as I figured lots of people love the Bean boot. But LL Bean kept sending me reminders, so here you go. I would never buy this boot.

I have two other pairs of Bean boots, which run large. I ordered the same size in the thinsulate boots, and they were too small. They seem to fit more true-to-size than the other boots. Had to return them.

I thought the boots were lined on the sides and they weren't. One of the bottom linings rubbed on my lower left foot which made it a little uncomfortable. This wasn't the type of Bean product that I used to know.

I originally ordered a size 8. They were too big so I ordered a size 7. The sevens were on backorder and when they came to me there was a difference between the two boots other than size. The color of the leather was much lighter the leather was stiffer not as soft as a size 8. I think llbean rushed to fulfill backorders and the quality was compromised.

Well made but the thinsulate liner is only in the foot bed and feels uncomfortable and cramped. There is no thinsulate on the uppers. They supposedly run large by a full size; the pair I received were actually small by at least a full size. Had to return, my son did not get his Christmas present and I have to wait for a refund. Very very disappointed. Why can't they just be made to size???? Perplexing, I cannot recommend.

Nicely crafted boots but beware if you normally wear a half size. I wear a classic
10 1/2D and so ordered a half size down as recommended - a 10. NO WAY this boot came close to fitting - it was far too snug. Reordered in size 11 and I was swimming in it. If you are close to an LLBean store, try this boot on before you buy it!

Product looked good, & fit good. My problem was at this boot height the Non padded boot top bites into my lower leg making walking unbearable.

Product changed to "pleather" in uppers. Not very comfortable. Disappointed in LL Bean for going cheap on new upper material for their classic boots.

I have wanted a pair of L.L. Bean's Men's 8in Thinsulate Bean Boots for several years, I just was never ready to commit. I normally wear a size 12 1/2w to 13d. The first pair I ordered online were a size 13 but fit more like a size 15. I returned them to the closest store, about 30 miles away, with no problem. They didn't have any Bean Boots around my size to try on, so went on faith and had to order the next size down, hoping they would fit. I don't understand why they don't offer half sizes above size 11 considering feet do come in many different sizes. I ordered the 12 w, which were delivered ahead of schedule. The length wasn't bad, I think, but the width was too tight. The worst part is that the seam where the rubber bottoms are sewn to the leather uppers hits at the lower area of my heel. This was very uncomfortable within 2 steps, rubbing and scrapping and became painful. The junction of the leather and rubber on other boots I have owned previously was higher, so as not to cause this problem.
Very well made, great quality, except for design flaws.
Unfortunately, another 60 mile round trip, and no chance at a pair of Bean Boots in my future. I guess I'll have to settle for a travel kit or mug

I finally got the thinsulate model in my size. But guess what. They were too big. I ordered my usual size 7 boot, but for some reason these were a lot larger than my other been boots. I don't know if the wrong rubber bottom was used with the wrong size stamped top, but I was disappointed because I had been waiting for them for so long and searching for them. Put them up side by side and the boot looked a full size bigger than my 6 inch bean boot.

Got these boots for Christmas and they arrived yesterday. They were back ordered until April but came early. They fit well (size 10), I am an 11 so I would recommend going down a size. Everything seemed great until I noticed a few things. The ll bean emblem on the back looks crooked, the leather looks like it is not straight at the cuts and on one of the boots the leather overhangs the rubber. Lastly, there is a lot of frayed threads coming out by the laces. It just looks like since they are on back order they are rushing all the boots they are making and not really doing a great job in quality control. Unless I am wrong and they are not supposed to look perfect but I thought there could have been a little more pride in the assembly. Definitely returning but not sure if I want an exchange if I have to wait months again.

This boot is wonderfully made and should last a lifetime. What was totally unsatisfactory was the promised shipdate that was totally missed and then rescheduled two more times for delivery. I would recommend that if you want this for a gift like at Christmas or a birthday, you order it six months in advance on the order so you won't be disappointed when you get the information that it is delayed!!
