I got these boots because I own the unlined version and while those are great for keeping my feet dry, they're awful at keeping them warm. After a couple weeks of wear, these seem to be doing a better job at keeping my feet warm, however, there are a few problems I have with the boots. The first is that the liner on the bottom of the shoe doesn't go all the way to the tip of the toe, it's quite noticeable and irritating. The second is that the tongue is stitched onto this boot differently than the original, being attached only on the bottom instead of sewn in on the sides too. I bought these shoes to wear to the arctic circle and I'm worried they may not be quite as waterproof as my originals because of the tongue stitching. The third issue is a bit nit picky but the piece of leather around the leg opening of the boot isn't stitched in front making the boot look unfinished and as though this piece could look a bit more weathered faster than I would hope. I normally wear a 6.5-7 and the 6 fits me perfectly with room for thick socks.

Love that they are made in Maine. Have worn these boots for over 50 years. On my newest pair there are two minor issues. One, the laces are too short to tie properly for outdoor use. Two, the top of the tongue almost comes out from under the laces it is a tad too short. I normally wear wide and had to return. Believe it when you read reviews saying don't get wide unless you have uber wide feet. Nice and toasty.

I needed these to combat Chicago winters, and they are definitely comfortable when walking. They're warm enough with my relatively low activity level/fast-walking pace until it gets ~20F degrees but after that, even with thick wool socks, my toes are cold. The rubber area is not insulated, so the cold seeps in not only when you're walking through snow, but also just in general. On the upside, my feet don't get wet! Even when walking through mid-calf snow drifts, I've never had any issue with snow tumbling down and getting inside the boot. I've also had no issue with slush and water puddles. All this said, I would definitely recommend them! Just wear thick, heavy-duty socks in the colder temps!

Okay, I am hoping to help someone before they make a purchase. At $225.00, you want to be sure of what you are ordering. Yes, as many others have stated, these boots run BIG. I followed the sizing recommendations and ordered my regular size 7 which should work with mid-weight socks. Nope. Even with heavy socks they were too big. I re-ordered a 6 and they fit perfectly, even with heavier socks. Definitely order DOWN. (Even the rep I spoke to told me the Bean boots are made on the larger size.) Second, I loved these for the shearling option. While cozy, it does nothing to provide added warmth since it's only on the upper, unfortunately. I wore these outside for approximately 20-30 minutes to clean my car during a recent snow/deep freeze in New England and my toes were FROZEN. I will save these for colder fall days and milder winter ones. Overall, yes, these are GREAT boots in the quality we all love about LL Bean. Just be aware of the sizing and what your goal for them is. I would say they are NOT snow boots, at least not in really cold temps or prolonged time outside.

Waited along time to purchase these boots. Would love them but the sizing is ridiculous. I read the reviews so I did not order a size up as I usually do with winter boots. I take a size 8 consistently and they are like two sizes too big! Even with two pairs of heavy socks the boots slip in the heel. I'm aggrevated every time I wear them, reminded of how long I waited and how much money I spent. I've worn them so no returning at this point. As always w/ LLBean, quality is top notch.

My daughter asked for these for her birthday. I decided to buy a pair for each of us because I have been doing a lot of hiking and want to continue in winter. Wore them for the first time on a snowshoe hike and they were great. My feet stayed dry and warm. I would give five stars but for one major flaw - the laces that came with the boots are MUCH too short! I can barely tie them and prefer to do double knots to make sure they stay tied on a hike. That was a disappointment. But at least I can easily get longer laces and the boots themselves are wonderful.

I really wanted to love these boots and I'm sure they work fine for many. I just wanted to leave them by the door loosely laced so I could just slip them on quick. The leather is actually too nice and soft for that, it folds over in the back. Yes I could sit down and pull them on properly but that wasn't why I chose them.

I followed the suggestion to order down a size, however that was a mistake. I have returned them to get my true size. I plan to wear medium weight wool socks with them. Here's hoping that they fit. If not I will try a different style.

I recently purchased these boots. I had to get the smallest size as they run very large, so be sure to look at the sizing information. I have not yet gotten a chance to wear them but they feel very nice and look like high quality.

I love my shearling lined duck boots. But, ordering them & finding the right fit took a bit of patience. After reading tons of reviews, I learned that these boots run very big for the size listed. I wear a 9 1/2 shoe, and have a wider foot. So, my first purchase was the 8 W version. These were WAY too wide, and clunky. Sent them back, and exchanged for the 8 standard width. These fit great. They are comfortable & easy to walk in for long distances. I commute by foot in NY, and these stand up to the job. They are cute, comfy, great for cold & wet weather. Happy I kept trying until I got the sizing right. LL Bean--maybe you should consider re-sizing these boots to avoid the confusion of having to size down.

My first pair of Bean Boots and these are amazing! These boots are warm, the tumbled leather already feels broken in, and the laces were definitely long enough. Very easy to get on and wear. I am a true size 7, and the 7 fit very well, with room for thick socks, perfect for standing at bus stops or on El platforms in the cold Chicago winters. I did order 2 of the same boot in a size 7, and noticed that in one pair, the gap between the shearling and the bottom stitching was wider and I could feel glue in between. In the other pair, this issue was not there, you can still feel where the shearling ends but I couldn't feel any glue. When I returned the first pair I was told this gap was normal, but I could feel the difference between the two. I kept the one with the smaller gap, and I am very pleased! Thank you LLBean!

I did not know which size to order but according to the recommendations on the website, if you are a half size you should order one size down. I ordered both the 6 and 7. The 7 is a bit too big but okay if I wear thick socks but too big with thin socks. The 6 is just right if I wear thin socks but too tight with thick socks. I'm not sure which one to keep so I will keep both and adjust according to the sock width. According to friends who have had these a long time, they used to come in half sizes. A 6.5 would have been perfect. Can you bring back half sizes? Overall, excellent construction and very warm and comfortable.

I have thought about ordering these boots for a long time and finally did it. I wanted to wear them with heavier socks so followed the sizing advice and ordered a size 9 when I usually wear an 8. The width is great but they are a bit long even with the extra pair of socks. Overall, I really like these boots.

Rec'd my boots about 6 wks ahead of time! Thank you! Yes, the size is generous. I wear 8-8-1/2W so ordered 8W and they are WAY roomy allowing for heavy socks. Thought bare feet would be insecure in all that room but when laced up, feet were solidly in place with lots of toe-wiggling room. The rounder toe aids roominess. Beautiful leather, shearling, & workmanship; thank you Dale for my boots! Toasty warm even with bare feet. Looked for a boot that wouldn't slip on slush; tested & it slipped just a little [minus 1 star]. Also going inside to a tile floor they slipped a little but if one wipes feet on a mat first, they stick very well. These boots do work well for me. Love 'em. Thank you Dale & Bean.

I love these boots but I did need to modify a couple of things. As others have said, the insert was too short (like a size too small) and did not reach to the toe of the footbed. This was very uncomfortable and to me it didn't feel like a quality insert to begin with. It seems strange that llbean has not fixed this problem as other reviewers have stated the same as much as a year or longer ago. As a fix I replaced it with an insert from a pair of Keen shoes that I don't wear. It was a perfect fit and a much better quality insert. The other thing that I was disappointed with was the laces. They were not overly ample in length and they were a cheap looking gold cord. An easy enough fix was a pair of leather boot laces as a replacement. Although these fixes were not a huge deal or a deal breaker it's disappointing to have to modify a boot that retails over $200. The shearling does not go past the ankle into the footbed and although I haven't worn them out in extremely cold weather I think the insulation that is there will be warm enough, but time will tell. Others have said the stitching is uncomfortable but I have worn them without socks without discomfort. I usually wear a 6 1/2-7 shoe with a somewhat wide foot and the 6M was a great size choice. But I am usually a barefoot or thin sock wearer. If worn with thick socks or a couple of pairs... idk. I ordered these just after Christmas and the backorder date was 2/27 but I received them on 1/20. Shipped so quickly! One day from ME to my doorstep!

I bought these and the Wicked Good Bean Boot. Wore one on each foot with the wool ragg socks around my house. Although lined all the way through, the Wicked boots were not as warm as these. These were still not as warm as I needed when I wore them out the other night, so I replaced the insole with one of my Ugg insoles and they are now perfect. Being outside in 10 degrees the other night, my feet were warm. 4 stars because I think LL bean should include the shearling insoles. Bought my regular size, could not of sized down after adding the insoles and wool socks

I first bought a pair of unlined bean boots that I had to return due to excessive heel rubbing where the rubber and leather are sewn together. Exchanged for a shearling lined pair of Bean Boots solved the heel rubbing issues. These boots are comfortable and warm. True to size, my foot measures a size 6, so I ordered a 6. Perfect. I would order half size up if in between sizes. They come with a removable footbed that provides some arch support. These could easily be removed and replaced with customized insoles. I wouldn't consider these wide or narrow but middle of the road with enough room so that my baby toes don't get smushed. I wear these with medium weight socks, merino wool or cotton ragg, and my feet stay warm and dry. I purchased a shearling insole that I placed on top of the provided footbed. Fit is more snug but still comfortable and is worth the extra warmth. I wear these to work with pants and jeans, they look stylish and make my feet happy. I also wear these to walk dogs in the cold rain and snow. I am giving these 4 stars only because the tread is slippery on ice, a set of Yax Trax was necessary for traction. I would love to be able to customize my Bean Boots. I loved the red tread and dark brown leather on the first pair I purchased. Unfortunately, that color combo was not available with the shearling lining. After waiting several years to splurge on a pair of Bean Boots, I am thrilled with my purchase. Another excellent LL Bean experience.

Just moved back north after living in Georgia for a decade. One thing I didn't miss was how cold my feel get trudging through the elements so I ordered these online after hours of research. Learned a few days later about a Bean store 45 minutes away. Was thrilled to find they had them in stock. I normally wear an 8 or 8-1/2 and the 8 fit perfectly. These feel like your warmest, most cozy slippers. Slightly disappointed that the leather isn't waterproof, but I'm going to get them treated and hope for the best. Not sleek at all, but worth it to keep my feet warm. Can't wait for the cold to set in so I can wear these. Cancelled my online backorder so someone else can be blessed a little earlier as well.

How can anybody NOT have these boots and get through the mud, ice, snow, and puddles- sometimes all in the same day- here in New England?! I love these boots. My feet stay dry and warm. The insert in the bottom is a little short, I am hoping it will stretch as the boots "break in". This first Bean classic is still one of your best products. Ready for a White Christmas now!

They're perfect, they're everything I remember from growing up in CT and ME (so remember, even with the shearling they're for AUTUMN: they aren't super warm), but as a 7 1/2, I really should have ignored the size suggestion and bought the 7. I just wanted to wear them when they arrived last year, and didn't want to take a chance on their being backordered, but the size discontent has deepened with time; even though I love and wear them frequently, it's a little annoying twinge every time I put them on. EVEN with an added shearling insole to take up space. Maybe I can have the rubber size reduced when I send them back to be refurbished in 40 years?

I ordered these boots in December and they were on backorder. In February, I received a notification from LL Bean about the status of my order. When I clicked on the notification, it said that my order had been completed even though the boots had not shipped. I was charged $0 and after getting clarification from a customer service rep, I realized that my order had been cancelled without my permission and that I needed to place a new order. While it was a slight nuisance to place a new order when I had been willing to wait, I reordered in May, and it worked out because a coupon code gave me a 10% discount that I wouldn't have gotten with my original order. The boots finally arrived in July! I tried them on and they are the perfect fit--I usually wear size 8 and these still have room for regular socks but would be snug with wool socks. Even without wool socks, the shearling made my feet feel super warm! I would go with the tumbled leather because the boots were not stiff so they didn't need to be broken in. The quality of the boots feels lasting and durable, but I have not tested them out in the snow yet, so I will need to update this review. I have been on the search for winter boots that are fashionable, waterproof, and warm (while Uggs are warm and cute, they are not waterproof and the rock salt stains are hard to clean). LL Bean fits all the criteria. I think I am prepared for Chicago winters now. PS Their customer service is exceptional. When trying to figure out my size, a rep helped me and answered all my questions. When needing clarification on my order status, someone readily emailed me back. I can't say there is a con besides the long wait but it makes sense that so many people are after these boots!

The Women's Tumbled Leather Boots are a fantastic item. With the Winter in NE we are experiencing in 2015, these boots are second to none. The only issue I have had with the boots is the length of time to receive them. I ordered the boots in October and did not receive them until late February.

These boots were ordered for my daughter, and were perfect but for one flaw: the inner soles were about one size too small and didn't reach to the toe end of the boot. Her toes curled over the end of them. Fortunately, Customer Service happily sent us a larger men's equivalent size which we were able to trim down to fit perfectly. Now everyone is happy.
