I've owned several runs of the Speedgoat series and it's far and away my shoe of choice. The series 5 was highly disappointing. The durability fell off a cliff compared to the 3 and 4. My 3's I put 600 miles on before I really noticed the wear and integrity of the shoe start to give. The upper was always far too flexible for its own good and it gets stretched out far too easily and I have to retie my shoes often when I notice that my heel lock down is loosening. And the heel fin thing was a tough one two punch that brought in alot of trail debris. I truly hope the 6 series will improve and walk back "improvements" that they made with the 5. I would still gladly recommend the series 3 and 4 to anyone. I would not recommend the 5 at all.

Am a devoted Hoka runner, have had many pairs of Speedgoats, but this latest model is a big disappointment. I have two pairs of the Speedgoat 5's and both have splits where the upper meets the sole on the lateral edge of both feet. This happened around mile 175/200 for each pair. Not only does this shorten the life of the shoe (at some point my feet just start slipping out of the shoe at the split) but it eliminates the afterlife of the shoe as well. I just have to throw them away. I used to count on old pairs of my Speedgoats as beaters for gnarly watery trails and for just walking around with my dog. Old trail shoes make great walking shoes. In the past, a spent pair of Speedgoats has given me months and months of use beyond their regular life. Please go back to the reinforced upper. It's a trail shoe after all: that mesh fabric can't hold up.

These look better than most Hoka's, but I needed to return them as they didn't fit my feet right. My foot felt like it sat "too high" in them so that my heel felt like it was slipping out of the back when I walked. Also, the tongue is one of those really thin types as opposed to the more cushy tongues. It cut across the top of my foot and wasn't comfortable. I think the shoe is probably fine, but for some reason it didn't fit my foot well at all. As a comparison, I wear the Hoka Transport daily, and they are one of the best shoes I have ever worn.

The shoes aren’t comfortable at all. First the order was late. Thankfully a replacement pair was sent, considering I never received the original order. Unfortunately the shoes aren’t worth the amount I paid. I would like to exchange for a different pair.
I'd also recommend:

I have had the shoes less than a year and they look brand new except the tread of the shoes are almost completely worn off. I have read reviews on the Speedboat and other owners have mentioned the same thing. The body of the shoe is in excellent shape but the tread is basically worn off.

Feels too narrow in the toe box even though I have narrow feet according to local running store measurements. Something about the angle of the toe box curve or low toe box material. Great shoe if it fits.

I ordered a wide width, but the toe box on the right shoe is not big enough. I would have liked more room.

I got the Wide, the shoes are too narrow in the toe box and midsection, feels like a narrow D shoe. The upper is too tight, very confining and runs hot. If you don't have narrow feet, look elsewhere.

I ordered the wide width of the shoe, but wouldn't have guessed it upon trying them on. My feet aren't THAT wide, but are wide enough that some standard widths are just a bit too small. I have standard width shoes from other brands that are wider than the wide version of this shoe. The upper also felt tight from a height standpoint too, so clearly this shoe is meant for people with very thin, narrow feet. I didn't wear them for an actual run outside of trying them on, so I can't comment on the overall quality of the shoe. Would not recommend.

For 2E shoes, the fit was a too tight for me to want to keep them, so I exchanged them. If not for feeling too small for my foot, they would have been a very comfortable shoe. Alas, they are no longer in my possession because they did not fit my foot.

Fits very differently than my old Hokas. These are way too narrow. I'm out of lacing room now so I'll just use them for walking. My trails are dry, rocky and slippery. Unfortunately the speedgoat 5 have poor traction. The long heel tab is pretty annoying too. The color is great however. Unless you have wide feet I can't recommend them. I can't even imagine how wide the wides must be.

I ordered the wide width, this shoe is basically a D width with a tiny bit of added fabric to make it look wide. It’s a toe pinching shoe even in wide, don’t waste your money if you have wide feet. The tightest toe box on the market.

I tried both the 11.5 and 11.5 wide, both of which made my feet hurt just sitting in them for a bit.
Otherwise, the cushioning felt good, the build of the shoe felt stable.
I went and tried on a pair of Bondi 8s at a local store and those, while still a tad tight, would probably have be fine for me in a normal, definitely good with a wide.
Maybe offering the shoe in X-Wide would be a solution for me in the future, but most people clearly enjoy this shoe.
Thanks for the easy return process.

I have bought several of these speedboats before for mountain hiking both on and off trail.I have bad feet and depend on these to help me hike. I use Bondi's for casual walks. I have always loved these shoes but this pair is narrower than in the past and the construction of the tongue area has changed and is flimsy.. I also feel the base/ sole is not as wide so I rolled my ankle several times on this past hike. The vibram sole on these is very useful for mountain hiking I have always recommended these in the past but am not sure I will in the future.

My Orthopedic doctor recommends rocker-bottom shoes for my foot problem. I have a pair of Skechers that are comfortable, but wearing out. My "perfect size" according to the New Balance store, is size 7 EEEE, but I can make do with a 7.5 EEE. You only offer EE on your website. Please offer wider options.

I needed to get an extra wide and the options are limited. This is a decent shoe but it has a short and flimsy tongue that makes putting it on a true effort. The tongue tends to fall into the shoe, fold on itself and is short and near impossible to pull out without untying and opening the shoe. Also, for some reason the shoe laces have no friction and make keeping a knot difficult. I have physical limitations with a spine issues and that compounds the problem.

I found theses to be short, narrow and a bit rigid for my foot. I guess Bondi. 8's are a hard act to follow. The Speedgoats fit more like a Nike product.

I'm a trail runner and frequent OCR participant. It's critical to have gear that performs as expected in challenging conditions. I've been looking at the speedgoat 5 for several months as my next pair of off road running shoes. When I completed my first 4 mile trail run I was disappointed that I had three blisters on my feet. After my feet recovered I took precautionary measures for my second attempt but the results were nearly the same with a slight improvement, only two blisters this time. Both trail runs were completed in dry conditions and didn't make the cut. Sizing seems small and narrow in my opinion.

Toe box is too narrow. The regular width should be sold to people as narrow. I also have a pair of wide Speedgoats as well and still get pinky toe rub. Not one of the 20 other pair of train runners I have cause this issue and not one of them is a wide model. Brands include Adidas, Nike, Altra, Topo, Salomon, Brooks and Asics. Something ain't right about the design on the new Speedgoats. So yeah, fire the designer and be better.

The shoe tongue support mesh had been cut on one side causing the tongue to always shift left. I repaired it myself by sewing it back together.

The quality HOKA shoes are just not where they should be anymore. I've tried the Clifton's, SpeedGoat and Bondi and they all have looked significantly worn within wearing a couple of weeks. They just don't hold up anymore. My latest pair I thought would be better since the have the Vibram on the bottom but I'm disappointed. $155+ shoes should last longer than a month. Size of shoe is true to size and overall they feel great just worth the money anymore for the quality you get now.

Really like the shoe in all respects except rapid wear. At this price would expect the sole to last longer than 30 days / 50 miles! And this was gentle walking not hard trail running. Appears the Vibram rubber component is too soft for any length of use. Now I'll have to see if Hoka stands behind their products.
