The top flap over the top of the foot between the laces seems to be a very thin leather that over time will tear or wear out quickly. Past brands of Hoka's have a sturdier and thicker flap.

Great if the shoe fits but it doesn't. I was hoping there would be enough room in the toe of this shoe in a wide but no. Only Topo wide fit and Altra original fit work for me. There are other foot shaped shoes but none with cushioning.

The shoe was great, but I needed more of a street shoe. I took them back and got the Bondi. I love the shoe for it's comfort, but I have one issue. I'm very hard on the outside heel and after only three days they were showing wear. I've been using shoe goo on those areas and everything else is fine.

Great show for comfort but they definitely let small rocks in and that can't work for the trail.

After my first run, I definitely felt more stress in my knees than expected. Not sure why, but overall the shoe feels stiffer than needed. I still think it was a good experience, but a small concern I'll be watching.

I loved the Speedgoat 4 but v5 I'm only landing in the like category. The fit is perfect ( I wear an 10 wide) and I I like the updates to the upper with the exception of the tongue. The tongue needs to have a little more padding and or a little longer, when I try and lock my heal in the laces cinch up at the very top of the tongue and occasionally slip over it. Another issue for me is the midsole. I like the fact they have been able to reduce the weight of the shoe but part of how they achieved that is by shaving some cushioning off the forefoot section of the shoe. The v4 of the shoe was perfect in this category but v5 makes for a much harder landing for those who run more on their forefoot. I do have to add that part of my biases on this issue are related to the face that I'm a mid 50s aged runner with many self inflicted injuries from decades of running and weight training and I need the cushioning in that area. I know the next version of this shoe is still a year or more out but please consider addressing it when it is updated. And lastly I will say that I like the shoe for easier terrain but for the steeper more gnarly terrain I've switched from o the Mafate Speed 4 which has a much better midsole and traction ( if only it came in wides)

Toe box is way too narrow and fit overall around toes is just odd. They’re comfortable though with good traction on trail and not to soft and wallowy or to firm. Right in the middle.

I'm really hoping to find something to replace the old Clifton six I have I haven't been able to find the same comfort in the seventh or the eighth's. Looking forward to the new Clifton nine coming out. I understand it's a little softer and more cushion like the older models.

These shoes perform very well when new. But, this pair was totally worn out in less than six months (no tread and no cushion). I use them to walk 7.5 miles a week, go shopping and occasional hiking. Their cushioning and neutral support (I do not want arch support) is good for my knee which has a worn interior joint surface. Their traction on steep, wet rocks is excellent. Be aware that they do ride high, which requires adjustment on off-camber trails. If you don't mind spending $150 every few months, they're tough to beat. But, I have had other brands and models that were much more durable. I feel like Hoka has gone too far on the trade-off between weight and durability with this one, but a chat with one of their specialists gave little insight on which models might be more durable.

When I first got my Hoka Speedgoat 5s I was very happy with the fit and comfort of them. I used them as my primary long hike/trail run shoe for a full season. While I liked them for their comfort, I noticed that they broke down much faster than other trail runners that I have used (primarily Salomon Speedcross 6). With other shoes, I can get 350-400+ miles before they are breaking down. With the Hoka Speedgoat 5s, I got just over 200 miles and the lugs are nearly worn out and they have lost they soft cushion feel. If you are an occasional hiker looking for a soft trail running, these might work great. If you are doing weekly hikes/trail runs, you would be better off finding a longer lasting shoe.

Only worn the speedboat 5 twice but it's appearing like the quality is going to be no better than my last 3 pairs of Bondi 8's . Will not get a supportive quality wear for long. Less than 3 months for 3 pairs of Bondi' s rotating every day so 2 and one third times a week walking 4 miles a day. Very disappointed!

I found the shoes comfortable but on long walks my back hurts. I’ve tried walking multiple times, same issue.

I have owned the SG 3 and 4. Loved both for the mountains in Colorado. Great shoes and good durability. Absolutely love both, 4>3 but both great. The 5's......not so much. Feet are killing me after 10-16 miles, great toenail lifted and low back pain. Shoe feels sloppy. Have to use heel lock lacing to use for any down hill. Eight mile downhill is a nightmare. Bring back the the 4s. Can't find any anywhere. Just bought a pair of 6s, have 110 miles on the 5s and hoping the 6s are better.

A couple of major issues. First is that they are not suitable for technical/rocky, trails. The bottom of the shoe (middle heel area) that doesn't have tread, is basically made of marshmellow and is incredibly thin. You basically feel barefoot if you step on a rock in that location. If you are running on jagged or lose rock, it is really really painful and dangerous. When pushing with my finger, it wouldn't require much pressure to poke right through the bottom of the shoe. Similar lack of durability to the soles of the shoe. They are shredded beyond belief. Likely my last pair of trail runner Hokas as the durability is just not up to par.

Comfortable shoe, but canvas tore on a hidden branch on its second outing through a forest trail. Freak accident, but expected a longer life from the shoe given it's price.

I was an early adopter of the speedgoat 5. Used it on my local hikes and the Camino Norte (lots of trails). Eventually the soles wore out and I stayed to frequently slip. But at that point I was very happy with the life of the show.
Even though the speedgoat 6 has been released I order another pair of the 5s. Why mess with perfection and it was on sale (from Hoka). I was dismayed that the latter speedgoat 5 was appreciably narrower in both the foot cage and soles. All four shoes and both boxes are labeled size 9.5 width 2E (wide). They either changed the design or mislabeled the shoes.
I had to send them back. Thinking of looking at the On line for this year's Camino (Portuguese coastal) given that experience.

This is my fifth Hoka shoes that I ordered and the color of the shoe is way different from the shoe that I have see online. Hoka are very comfortable but this time Hoka upset me with the issue of the color.

After 5 hikes an o rocky mountain in Phoenix, the back sole on the back heel began to peel off, I returned and had the same occurrence happn with the 2nd shoe unfortunately. The shoes were extremely comfortable, with great grip, and decreased twisting ankles going gown steep, rocky mountain. I have to go to the local hiking store to buy real hiking shoes that won't fall apart. I would buy Hoka hiking shoes rather than trail shoes if guaranteed the same problem did not happen again as I have run in Bondis and work in Bondi SR leathers for years.

I really like this shoes and I hiked 190 miles in the sierras with it. Now the threads on the soles are worn down and there is only slipping and sliding on the trail. I had to buy a pair of new shoes after only 190 miles that's really little use common Hoka!!!! 190 miles and an other pair of shoes for the land fill you guys can do better. Please make a more durable version. I wanna keep hiking but not only 190 miles!!!!
