These are comfy shoes to walk on the trail, however the soles (like other Hokas) are wearing out quite fast. Iv'e only had the shoes about a month and the tracks on one side of the sole (where I lean more) are already smoothed out and wearing thin. My previous Hokas (Challenger AT6) had the same problem, within a year their soles were smooth as a river rock - zero traction. Soles wearing out is an area Hoka really has to figure out.

Most comfortable shoes I've put on my feet and I'm on my feet an average of 10-12 hrs a day!

I'm a 67-year-old trail runner. I have run in just about every shoe brand during those years. I waited until I had 100 miles running in the shoe before writing a review. The Speedgoat 5 is by far the best shoe I have ever run in. Comfortable as soon as you put them on. They stay comfortable for hours on the trail. Great midsole and very durable outsole. Very stable in all types of terrain. I have worn these on trails from smooth buff dirt to extremely rocky trails in Rocky Mountain National Park. They have never failed me. The 5 is the best version of the Speedgoat I have worn. Well worth the price for me.

I bought these and a pair of Altra Lone Peak 6's. These feature quite a bit more cushion in the footbed but felt smaller/tighter than Altras of the same size. The heel feels shallow, as if they will slip off if not laced tightly.

I love Hokas and I wanted to love the Speedgoat 5 as much as I love my Rincon 3's but they were just a bit too narrow for my wide feet. My pinky toes were pushed to the sides and hanging off the padding, on any day hike this will be a problem not to mention a backpacking trip. They were otherwise springy and light like Hokas always are and stretched comfortably even for my pronounced instep.
I'd also recommend:
Keen, Altra

It seemed like a great shoe out of the box and I'm sure it's great for people with normal or narrow feet. But, this was very narrow for my foot which is a little wider that a typical foot. I can wear a normal width shoe but sometimes will go with a wide fit when needed. On this shoe, it was very narrow. Marking it a 4 for me but that's just due to my actual foot.

Nice sneakers. Purchased in size 12. To me, they were not true to size, and felt more like 11.5. Medium width felt more narrow than Hoka sneakers purchased in days gone by. Great looking shoes. Returned them to purchase in size 13EE width wherever I can find them…..

They have just lost comfort in Speedgoat. I’ve worn them for 5 years. Just need more squish being in my feet all day everyday. Switching to New Balance AT w/Fresh Foam

I got the Speedgoat 5 in size 9-2E and it is so narrow at mid-foot that it causes pain after a short wear. I returned these and went back to wearing my Speedgoat 4 in the same size 9-2E, which fits perfectly. Is it possible the 5 version is narrower than the 4? I do think the tongue and heel are both improved in the 5 version as compared to the 4.

I have been using Altras for several years, completing my first ultra in them and hiking around 1200 miles without any problems. Recently, I transitioned to Hoka for their durability and to experience the popular choice. However, after just three runs, I began to experience shin splints, forcing me to pause my training. While I find the shoes to be exceptional, my only concern is the injury, which coincided with this change in footwear. Nevertheless, I remain optimistic about the shoes.

They feel like they could be comfortable but are just too small. I ordered the same size I wear in all my other shoes but after wearing them for an hour or so my feet were hurting. I will try a half size and a full size larger and see which one fits best. The Speed Goat's seem like exactly what I'm looking for, a light shoe to wear hiking on trails that aren't too rugged or when I'm not carrying a lot of weight, BUT the crazy colors will scare away any wildlife... I wish this shoe was available in some less outlandish colors

Needed a trail runner that helped my plantar fasciitis and thought I had a winner, these had room, were cushy and I didn't have the foot pain but it wasn't to be. The outer side of my right foot blew out with in 4 months :(

Coming from Salomon XA Pro 3D V9 the Speedgoat 5 feels very light. Grip is good and the shoes are pretty breathable. They feel nice and comfy especially during a day hike. Now comes the big issue, durability. It is just not it. After only 4-5 hikes of about 10 miles each they are very damaged. One particular hike with a lot of rocks caused most of the damage. A bit disappointed because otherwise these are fantastic shoes! I might go for the 6 version now that it has been released hopefully they are better!

This is a tough review to write - because I really struggle to find shoes that I really like, and I thought I really liked these... I purchased the SG5s in wide, after trying over a dozen of other pairs of shoes (coming previously from using Brooks for 3 years that I got along with well - but they changed the fit). The SG5s fit me pretty well, and I liked the overall feel and comfort out of the box. I trail run in the mountains of WY about 8-20mi and 4000-7500ft vert on average per week for training, and go on adventure runs between 10mi and 25mi with 5000-10000 total vert periodically throughout the year. Right away, the stack and drop were more than I was used to, but I was enjoying the comfort on short walks to break them in... I thought I could adapt to them, but it is proving to be more challenging than I hoped. Shoes feel clunky and much less precise on trail than other shoes I've tried - I thought these would feel closer to a responsive shoe than plush - but I have to say these feel pretty plush in my opinion. The midsole is very, very soft and pliable. On technical descents, I've never felt more unstable. Scree and loose, dry dirt/pebbles feel like ball bearings and as you try to pressure different parts of your foot, the soft foam just gives way in a manner that is not confidence inspiring. I lost my footing on a 20mi summit day this past weekend more times and in more significant ways, than I had in the past 3 years with Brooks Catamount. The foam is also not durable - I've got 45ish miles on these shoes and the foam both underfoot and on the midsole sides are torn to shreds. Again, I've put hundreds of miles on Salomons and Brooks shoes, on the same type of rock, and they don't look like these SG5s do now. I'm not super pumped about the durability of these. Lastly, the top of the tongue that sits closest to your ankle to provide heel hold is so thin and unpadded - the laces dig into to top of my foot and cause pain...

I've put thousands of miles on Speedgoat 4s and, my favorite, the EVO Speedgoat. I had reservations about the durability of the upper in the Speedgoat 5, but went ahead and bought a pair anyway. 57.5 miles on the shoes and the top of the toe box is ripped. This just wouldn't have happened in the 4s, and never in the EVOs. The midsole and Vibram megagrip outsole are fantastic. The upper is more accommodating than the 4s. But it's just not durable enough. No, I can't in good conscience recommend these shoes until Hoka toughens the upper. If I could upload a photo, I would, and you all could admire my super glue & duct tape fix

I purchased these for my son who works on boats all day. He says the shoes are comfortable but they "squeak" when he walks! This is kind of irritating and not sure why.

Such an awesome shoe, but who is coming up with these color ways? They are absolutely terrible and I cant understand why there is so much mismatching of bright colors that simply don't look good together. Please bring back the grey and black combo! Even the Challenger 7 colors combos at least match a little better. Just way too much bright yellow, green, and orange going on here. Less is more! I bet sales would improve a lot with better colors.

I've been using these for big daily mileage. They are absolutely amazing, when they are new. However they are about as durable as a nerf football. I'm about 200 miles in this pair I bought two weeks ago, and I've already flattered the cushions, and the tread is starting to peel.. I also haven't been able to find a lny wide sizes for men .. it's a love hate relationship

I wear a size 15 in most shoes, Brooks, ASICS, Nike. These shoes fit a full size to a fine and more small. My toes were packed in to the end of the toe box.

I ordered a men's size by mistake. No wonder they were too big. Materials are getting skimpier all the time. Tongue is not padded and shoelaces seem way too fragile for such a weighty shoe. Hoping my new order of a women's sz, same style will be any better.
I'd also recommend:
Dansko sneakers are very good but wore out after 2 years of walking, not running.

I probably wouldn't be inclined to buy another pair for 155.00 if I was to spend that much money again it would be on a pair of boots , but that's just me and my preference, I never have been much of a sneaker person, I really feel more comfortable and secure wearing something up over my ankles, but working wear I do for my job I thought this was the answer to my problems, oh well , ya don't know until you try something to see if it's the fix , no harm done.

I have two other US 8.5 size pairs of Hokas, this latest model is way too small. I'm going to have to return them soon. I knew the minute I tried them on. They were too small on both feet.
