i definitely would not say ultra warm... i love mittens way more than gloves and these were/are SO CUTE. they do the job i guess. keep your hands from the cold and wind but they are nowhere near "ultra warm." i'm a huge baby when it comes to cold so i'm still looking for my perfect pair but i'll still keep wearing these.

I have tried a variety of ultra warm mittens and was hoping Bean's would be the best. I walk my dog in the mornings and the cold windy mornings are too much for my thumbs. I bought size large and wore a thin pair of gloves inside the mittens which help. I don't know if there is such a thing as ultra warm mittens.

Good quality, good fit, comfortable, soft inside, very lightweight -- but not ultrawarm. More like an ordinary pair of mittens. Wore for a short while outdoors, walking around in 20-degree weather, fingers were freezing. My bad for taking the name as a true description?

I'm hoping the replacement mittens have a roomier liner. Nice workmanship and materials, but my average-sized hands were squished inside the liner, even though the outer mitten was plenty roomy. Note: I'd ordered the "large".

Great mitten but unfortunately they run a little large. I have a small hand and the small was too big. It would be nice if there was an extra small. Other than this, the mittens seemed nice, not too bulky but warm enough when out and about.

These mittens are indeed warm but as long as they do not get wet. I just walked my dog and it was rainy and cool outside. The seams will allow water to permeate after a while. The ends of my thumbs became cold and damp and as long as I kept my fingers away from the seams of the mittens, my hands stayed warm. So, I guess I would recommend them if they never got wet.

These mittens were indeed warm but began to unravel almost from the day I received them. The quality of sewing was poor with loose threads every where; I was very disappointed to have paid so much for the hat, gloves and coat only to have poor craftsmanship.

I wore these mittens on a 30 degree day to walk my dog. By the time I got back home (20 minutes) my hands were cold. I was told mittens are warmer than gloves but I have not found this to be true The lining is very thin and the outer layer is thinly quilted. Disappointing quality for LLBean. I will wear gloves under the mittens and hope this works when the weather gets colder.

I haven't wash the mittens yet so don't know about stitching as previously mentioned....however I haven't found them to be ultra warm...they are warm, but no warmer that comparable products. very good looking though and warm for sure...just not ultra warm. 3 stars as warmth is not exceptional

We've had our first snow and I wore these mittens the last 2 days. They're warm and look great. But they are too small. I bought a Large and the wrist elastic hits my hand about 1" short of my wrist, so they feel like they are going to come off - and my wrists are cold! Please make an XL size for woman - women don't all have petite, cute frames. At 5'7" and 140 lbs, I'm not huge, but my hands and feet are long and I can't be the only woman with long hands. The men's gloves description has a size chart; these mittens do not - and if they had one, I would not have bought them because I would have known they are made for someone with smaller hands than mine. So I have beautiful, warm, too-short mittens. There's a new L.L.Bean store opening here this weekend - - maybe I'll go and see if I can exchange them for a Men's small or medium!

I was excited to get these before winter began here. We just had our first snowfall and I wore these mittens this morning for the first time, to shovel snow. Though I bought them in large, the elastic that defines the wrist is a good 1 inch short of my wrist. They're warm, but because they run small, it feels like the mittens are going to fall off - - and my wrists are cold! I'd love to exchange them for a larger size - but alas, no one thinks a 5'7" 140 lb. woman could have "XL" hands. Guess what - some of us do! Please make larger gloves and mittens. We have a new L.L.Bean store opening in town this weekend . . . . I wonder if I can exchange these at that store for a Men's small or medium?

Disappointed for an LL Bean product. Was looking for mittens to keep my fingers warm during this cold spell. These did not even with silk gloves underneath. Ended up going to a 3 initial store and spending $65. for a really warm pair. Will keep these to clean off the windshield. Not totally happy with this purchase - especially for $40.

Warm an cosy but color (dark raspberry) is a bright burgundy and size is large: medium wear a large size. So mittens glides.

Wish I had read the reviews....these run big and the Baxter ones run small. Still very cute.

I was a bit disappointed. The mittens were not as "Ultrawarm" as I'd hoped. My fingers still got cold at 30 degrees with a mild wind. Also, because other folks had said that they run big, I ordered the small which fit my fingers just fine, but the thumb was short.

ll bean always a pleasure to do business with, not happy, they will fix that, no worries. The mittens are very large for each size, we tried med and small on her but both just too large, so had to return both. ll bean takes care of their customers, we appreciate that and along with quality of product is the reason we keep coming back.

The gloves kept my hands warm, but when I shoveled in rain/snow the gloves soaked through immediately. They would be perfect if they were waterproof!

I really liked the mittens but there was too much excess material at the tip of the mitten, making it awkward to wear. Like another reviewer, I wish it came in extra small and then perhaps there would not have been a problem. I do love to shop LL Bean and usually have no problem with their merchandise. I do wish they carried petite sizes in their sweaters, tees and mock/turtleneck pullovers.

These really run large, even my husband could get them on easily! I had trouble with the thumb lining staying in place so returned them. They are attractive.

These mittens run a bit big, but most mittens seem to. They keep my hands warm even in the bitter cold MN weather, such as what we had recently, minus 36 degrees. But it is hard to grip things with them, for example, keys or a snow shovel. I have to remove them to do finer tasks when wearing them. But they are very good for walking and wearing if you do not have to use your hands much. Would have liked them even better if they had microsuede on palms and finger area for better grip.

I can tell a good mitten: when I put my hand in it my hand is suffused with warmth. Not this mitten. My fingertip to wrist is 6 3/4 inches. If your's is longer the mitten will be too short.

Great mittens except the wrist elastic was too tight - and I have very small wrists. I had to return them.

The only feature I like about these mittens is the cuff, which actually is too bulky to be really practical. They are not even particularly warm, and the cinch at the wrist is WAY too tight with no way to loosen. Large is quite small. Very disappointing.

This could have been a perfect pair of mittens if the elastic around the wrist worked as elastic Should! I couldn't even get my hand into the mitten without a struggle because the"elastic band wouldn't open up easily as it should!! I don't even think this truly was elastic. It felt Like a cheap replacement! The material used for the rest of the mitten seemed like good Quality!

I opted to pay a large price for the ultrawarm. They were not. I am returning them.
