This was VERY DIFFICULT to assemble. No instructions provided. Granted this was an extra large size, but the main cushion on the bottom was very difficult to get it to fit!! It is just too big! Also, the side pillow should have additional zippers to pull it through. The end result, after two attempts, a bed that looks contorted, and uneven. We plan to keep it because #1 sending it back sounds exhausting as we no longer have the box and #2 Our labs love it and would not appreciate us sending it back!!

I was very disappointed that this bed arrived in multiple parts. It took a great deal of time to put together and it was very difficult to thread the stuffing into the bed arms. LL Bean should sell this item assembled. The bed, once assembled, is quite adequate. Washing the covering will be a real pain, un-threading and re-threading the stuffing. Disappointed with the quality of this product.

This is a lovely bed, but for its premium price it should be shipped assembled as it is really difficult to do.

After much deliberation, I replaced my 12-year-old standard poodle's worn-out round LLBean bed with this orthopedic dog couch bed. I hoped it would be her favorite. It is not. She sleeps in it maybe half the time but seems to prefer a hand-me-down with lower-quality filling and two simple bolsters. She is both a nester and an elegant and sprawling side sleeper with long, lean limbs which stick out of both beds. Bean's dog couch seems overdesigned with the two fussy front mini-bolsters that create stress when removing to clean the cover which I dread (so I keep it covered). Keeping the bed but expected better.

I loved the heavy duty fabric cover, however for as frequently as I wash dog bed covers / blankets / the removal of the cover/ bolsters each time and then reassembly would be too much. Sadly , I returned the item.

The cover is great and has held up well. It's going on 3 years since we bought this bed for our big girl. Only bad thing is that the bottom insert part of the bed is falling apart pretty bad from just taking it part to wash the cover. It is a workout putting it together. Wish there was a way to replace the inside. For the price I would think the interior would hold up better especially since all my does is sleep on it.

I bought the extra large for my extra large male golden retriever. The previous Costco bed with bolsters fell apart, but it was only $20. I could not not this bed together by myself. The foam is quite heavy and awkward and does not slide into the bed cover without a fight. This dog bed could be improved upon SO MUCH by 2 things: (1) Make the zippers longer, especially for the compartment that accepts the foam bed and (2) cover the foam base, which is quite thick, with a nylon cover, which would both help it slide back into the outer cover easier during assembly or reassembly, AND help protect the foam against "accidents." I was a sweaty mess by the time we got this thing together. I really dread needing to wash this cover. Other than the assembly part, the bed seems sturdy, comfy, and Gus loves it. So do the cats, much to Gus' dismay.

I found the bed too difficult to put together. We like to wash the cover every few weeks and I cannot see myself fighting to put the bed back together every time. I also expected it to be a bit softer.

We loved the dog bed and thought it would be perfect for my dad's dog (3 years old and 70lbs.), but it took him just a few hours to rip through the fabric and destroy the bed. Our other dogs have similar beds from LLBean and they have stood the rest of time. Just really disappointed in this one.

for our 125lb baby, not worth the ~$300 cost. Our dog is essentially sleeping on the floor. If the bolster material was applied to the cushion itself, that would likely lead to a different review.

It is a nightmare to put the bed which includes 3 long fat slippery bolsters and main base back together after you wash the cover. Quality of the fabric and zippers is excellent but I would never buy it again because it is so painful to reassemble after washing.

This is not a soft fabric (sturdy, though, to be fair), and putting the bed together is very difficult. The sides are in 3 separate pieces that have to be stuffed in. I sliced up my hands on the zipper trying to put them in and my arms weren't long enough to get the ends in correctly. I like to wash the exterior of my dog beds on a regular basis and this would be way too difficult to disassemble and reassemble. I've had plenty of other dog beds and never encountered such an unwieldy design. Returning.

I purchased a Therapeutic Dog Sofa (large) in November 2016. Today, as I prepared to wash the cover so I could patch a hole it had developed, I found that the egg crate pad itself has deteriorated in the center section of the sofa. That deterioration in the pad appears to be why the hole developed. As I searched for a new dog sofa, I began to wonder: Is it reasonable to think that a $300 dog bed should last longer than 5 years? Moses, now 6 years old, weighs 40 pounds and is an only dog. It seems to me that, in fact, Moses and I should reasonably expect that his sofa should last longer than this one has. The only warranty on this item is one year.

I have been buying LL Bean Dog Beds with bolsters for years. This product is incredibly inferior and costs over $100 more than the one I bought several years ago. They used to have a very long zipper in it that went the full length of the bolsters. Now the zipper only goes across the back of the bed. It is totally impossible to insert the two side bolsters the full length as the picture shows. I could only insert the side bolsters the length of my arms and this was at great effort. The denim this is made of is good quality, but it is ridiculous that they are trying to save on the price of a zipper! I dread ever having to take it apart to launder it!

So my dog is by no means a big chewer, we've had this bed for about a year and she got bored last night and went to chew (which is rare) on a corner of the bed where her bone was. Within 5 minutes there was a hole, so I wouldn't say this bed is durable. Just disappointing when you spend close to 300 dollars on a dog bed.

This is actually a great bed, other than the fact that it went flat very quickly. The cover is thick quality material but the middle insert is not worth the money.

We have two dogs and purchased the XL so they can both be on it at the same time. We have a 1.5 yro Male Olde English Bulldog that pretty easily ripped through the cover and got to the foam bedding and made a big mess. Will need to look for a more durable dog bed to replace this one.

The dog does not like it; the product was a pain to assemble; the fabric soils easily and taking it apart to wash is overly complicated; I had the plain appx. 4x5 ft. mattress with zip cover and I had to fight the mattress in and out of the cover. I was looking to simplify. There has to be a better, simpler way to make these beds. Add to the difficulties mentioned, the price isn't worth the fight. My dog is an 11 yr old Bernese and I was looking forward to adding to her comfort with the therapeutic bed....she is NOT comfortable in this bed.

I didn't, because I have been buying LLBean dog beds for decades. If I had any idea it would arrive disassembled, I would not have purchased, as these 66 year old, arthritic hands had an AWFUL time assembling it. The bolsters do not fit neatly into the channel--they overlap and getting the zippers to zip is nearly impossible. Bear in mind these 66 year old arthritic hands are still perfectly capable of carrying and paddling a Pungo 120 without assistance from anyone, but the dog bed? Not so much--it was excruciating. Consider purchasing in the store. I still have the second one to assemble.

I've had this orthopedic dog bed for about a month now--I got it for my 15-year old dog who's had the "non-orthopedic" version of this bed for several years. I thought she'd love this for her stiff, elderly bones. But she vastly prefers the old--less expensive--one. If I had it to do again, I'd just order another one of those--cheaper and beloved by my dog.

I bought two of these dog beds- 1large and 1xlarge, which means I paid almost $600 bucks for these. I loved them, the dogs love them, and everything was wonderful. Until I cleaned the cover on the xlarge.
Putting it back together was a nightmare. I broke a sweat. The arms would not go all the way down and around the front section and I gave up.
I had also washed the cover of another, cheaper, couch style bed and the geniuses who designed it have the zipper running along the back AND up the sides for both the main bed and the bolster. Took me 3 minutes to put it back.
Why LLBean decided to only have the zipper run along the back defies logic.
I'm now stuck with $600 worth of dog beds I will never wash, which greatly decreases life of beds. I'm quite peeved about this design flaw.
Do not buy unless you are cool with spending this much money and not being able to wash the covers!

Looking for an XXL dog bed for our 9 month St Bernard. Looks great - but it is not inexpensive. Our dog managed to chew through the fabric within 2 days. Next will be the cushion filling - it will probably look like a white "snow storm" all over the floor. Glad we have a large contracter garbage back to dispose of it! A total waste of several hundred dollars!

First of all, it was pretty confusing to insert all the bolsters. The instructions could have been much better illustrated.
But when I finally got it put together it was way too small for my 19 lb wire fox terrier. The small is recommended for up to 25 lbs, but clearly these ranges are inaccurate.
I will be bringing this bed back.

I have had many dog beds, and this is definitely the most frustrating. I ordered the large for my husky/lab mix, and it was the perfect size. The color was a beautiful color, exactly like the picture and it is a nice looking bed that has held up quite well. However, the fabric is very stiff and not very soft at all. Here is the main problem: I knew I was in trouble when I had to read the instructions on how to put the bed together. I thought it was lack of practice on this particular type, but i swear I let the bed lie there dirty for weeks (she has another bed that i will just move upstairs and downstairs as needed) because the thought of putting that bed back together after washing is just exhausting. Ive washed it many times, and it gets no easier. It takes a good 20 minutes of a strenuous workout and lots of foul words to get it back together. On a good note, it still looks good after many washings. All in all, would never buy this particular bed again.
