Much higher quality fabric and bolsters than the dog beds we've had in the past. Finn like to circle and scratch a few times before settling down, do others tear quickly. Too soon to tell, but it feels much stronger. Photo posted to help people judge sizing. Finn is an 80lb rough collie, the large is perfect.

Our 228 pound mastiff Miller loves his new bed!!! Very difficult to find a bed that he fits in but this one works perfectly. Sometimes he does like to sleep half in half out though. I would have given a 5 star; however, I did find it very difficult getting the cover on, this will make washing it as often as I like almost impossible. Thank you LL Bean.

Suggestion:
Unroll memory foam first to allow expansion time.
NOW LOOK AT INSTRUCTIONS GIVEN
1. Follow #1. and picture is good.
2. The picture sucks. Ignore it. Written directions should be: "With tapered end down and towards the front of the cover (the side with no zippers), first insert the back end of the tube into the zipper opening. (Back end of the tube end should go to the back corner.) Then insert the tapered end, with tapered end down. It does go around the front corner. Zip it in.
3. (Ignore Step 3 on the directions. You
did that as part of step 2.)
4. Repeat Step 2 on the other side.
5. Turn the couch right side out.
6. Insert back bolster and
zip closed.
7. Turn couch upside-down and insert mattress with top (the bumpy side) facing down.
8. Zip it up and turn right-side-up.
This took about five - seven minutes. Understanding the poor directions wasted about 15 minutes. When I quit looking at them it was pretty simple.
The bed is bigger than we thought and maybe we could have gotten a medium for our 60 pound golden retriever. But she loves it and room to stretch out.

This is a great dog bed and is very sturdy. It is made of durable fabric and my dog is comfortable in the bed. My only complaint is that was nearly impossible to get the foam inserts into the bolsters. I recommend that the manufacturer change the design to have zippers around the bolsters for easier access. I struggled with it for 30 mins and never did get the inserts all the way in. However, if you are willing to struggle, the bed is worth it!

My dogs love these couch beds! I like that I can throw the cover in the washer as needed. But assembly is a two person job at our house. I long for a 3" zipper at the end of each arm so that I could put my hand in and "PULL" the cushion through rather than having to push. Please LL Bean! Two little zippers!

The bed itself it wonderful. Putting on the cover is a nightmare. Whoever designed the cover did a marvelous job of getting it to fit, but didn't seem to take into account the process of getting it on. Plus, the nature of the foam against the canvas material creates significant friction. After I got the cover on the first time, I knew I would never go through that again. So I acquired other covers to put over it for washing.

My family has had Boxers for 20 years, and LL Bean dog beds nearly as long. They LOVE this model, especially the side cushions for resting their heads and curling up. The only downside to this is that it is extremely difficult to put the cover back on when you remove it to wash. The extra large takes a lot of wrangling. If it would be possible to make the cover easier to take on or off this bed would be perfectly perfect!

Needed something for my old GSD to lie on in the cargo area of my minivan. On a regular sized bed, invariably some part of him will slide off, especially if he gets up to change positions while I am driving. I wanted something that would hold and support his whole body (he's almost 12) whether he was curled up, stretched out or switching sides. Make no mistake, the XL is HUGE - it takes up either 1/2 or two-thirds of the ENTIRE cargo space in my minivan depending which way you turn it - but I don't think it's too big for him because he's VERY long even though he's only 75 pounds. And it's exactly what I was looking for. Only reason it's not 5 stars is because it will be difficult to take the cover on and off for cleaning. I just chose to cover it with a waterproof sheet.

These are excellent dog beds, sturdy and high quality. My arthritic dogs are very happy with them. The beds were much easier to put together than prior reviews suggested. It probably took me 20 minutes to put together two medium sized beds.
I found the ordering process to be very slow compared to almost everything else I've every ordered except for large pieces of furniture, so if you really want a new bed for your pup quickly this is not the product for you.
My other problem was that one of the two beds I ordered came with two back bolsters and one side bolster. So I called to have them exchange the extra back bolster for the side bolster I need, which is a small, lightweight piece. Customer service said they have to order me an entire new bed, which will take several weeks AGAIN. Then they have to ship the whole 30 lb box to me and then I have take out the one (maybe 15 ounce) piece I need, put in the extra back bolster I got from them, close up the box and call UPS back and have them come get the whole box and ship 30 pounds back to them. That is a ridiculous amount of time and shipping costs to correct a packing error.
Come on, LL Bean, take a look at your process and find a way to ship faster and resolve problems more sensibly!

We have a 12yo lab that I purchased this new bed for. Not only does she love it but our 6 mo puppy loves to jump in and cuddle with her! The large size is plenty big for both dogs. I haven't tried to wash the cover yet, as it was a hassle to put together. Overall love the new dog couch.

My lab loves this very comfy bed and so do I. She loves to snuggle into the bolsters. I love the thick foam cushioning, especially for an older dog. The only drawback is putting the bed back together after washing. We're on our third one and wouldn't consider any other bed but this one!

I read the reviews about it being difficult to "assemble" but did not find it so. I washed and dried the cover first in the drier, as I do with all products. It took a little effort to stuff the padding in the cover but was not a big job. Fabric is denim which is not soft and fuzzy but should stand up well to his digging/scratching which he does to all his beds. My 25 pound terrier fits well and likes his head on the outside rim.

I personally would rate it a 5 star for quality and design, but my dog still prefers to sleep on my bed and in other much cheaper dog beds around the house and in his new bed on rare occasions. So, 3 stars is his choice.

The cover material is stiff. I do not like that I have to put the bed together considering I paid over $200 for the therapeutic bed. However, the medium size works for my two small dogs.

Just received the small therapeutic dog couch. I have small hands but found it impossible to properly assemble the bolsters. At this price I think the assembly of the bolsters should be included. Dont cheapen your great products.

The assembly was so difficult that I dread washing it. I bought one for my arthritic dog and one for my dog with a spinal injury. They LOVE the bed. It needs an additional zipper that wraps around entire bolster area.

Very nice looking bed but one big problem is the foam inserts are almost impossible to get in correctly. If you are aggravated easily I would suggest you buy a bed that is fully assembled.

The assembly of this dog couch is way too difficult. It is almost impossible to get the bolsters in their "channels", and then to get the main mattress inserted is also a challenge. I'm on the floor for 45 minutes wrestling with this thing, and exhausted when I'm done. I dread every time it needs to be washed. I did just see some replies from LL Bean that suggests turning the cover inside out to insert the bolsters. I'm waiting now for the thing to dry, having just washed it. I'll try the inside-out suggestion, but it will still be difficult to get the main mattress back in. Given that there are so many other reviews of this product that comment on the difficult assembly, has LL Bean looked into re-designing this product? To make it easier to get the bolster pads and main mattress in and out of the cover, perhaps a more complete zipper opening would help? Other than that, the materials have held up decently and the therapeutic foam is only now starting to break down after five or six years. Our dog does seem to like laying on it.

Material doesn't seem as thick and durable as previously purchased dog beds. Time will tell.

This is the fourth Therapeutic Dog Bed I've purchased from LLbean. The cushions are very comfortable, the dogs love them. Also, it's easy to clean the cover itself in the washing machine.
However the quality in the material has dropped. My older beds (6 years +) are still in perfect condition. The new one lasted 1 week until one of the dogs ripped It pretty easily with her nails. The older beds have all taken much worse and never torn. Sadly the quality has really taken a dive!

I have two of these beds. They are attractive and my pups seem to like them, although I had to add some padding on top of the mattress before they'd actually use the beds.
But the beds are a total nightmare to assemble. It is extremely difficult to get the mattress and bolsters completely seated in the cover. It takes two people and about 1/2 hour to assemble one bed.
It doesn't have to be that way. If there were zippers the entire length of the side bolsters and if the zipper for the mattress compartment ran the length of the each side of the bed cover, assembly would be easy. The beds must be washed a few times each year and assembly doesn't get easier with practice.

I purchased this bed after reviewing all the comments and must concur this bed is very difficult to assemble. The instructions don't quite provide enough detail how to insert the bolsters and mattress. I recommend LL Bean create a short video (As other companies have done) to accompany the product description on how to assemble.

This is a durable, comfortable dog bed and the bolsters are great. I have a larger one that I purchased ten years ago and have replaced the original fabric during this time. I'm happy that they have gone back to the lighter indigo, as opposed to the dark blue that was available a few years back. The dog hair just stuck to the dark blue and with a lighter dog always looks messy. Its important to note, the bed has stood up well and my dog loves it. The reason for the 3 stars which I'm being generous at the moment is as such: I have severe rheumatoid arthritis in my hands, but I'm surely able to use them! This bed arrived for me to put together. I was able to put the bottom memory foam in easily but it sits on my kitchen table waiting for someone to insert the bolsters. The larger bed has an extra zipper in the back to insert the bolster when the bed needs washing, the small one does not. Its ridiculously difficult, and with the price I feel LLBEAN could surely send the new product intact. My LLBEAN account has rarely been used these past few years. This was a reminder of why, so I look at it frustratedly disappointed.
