Customer Reviews New Balance 840v5

For years I have exclusively worn New Balance running shoes, and with every pair, I put them on and they were comfortable right from the start. I just purchased my second pair of 840's and I am very disappointed in the quality. The materials are cheap, and the fabric surrounding the ankle is very stiff (no flexibility at all) and caused a blister. I am hopeful that once these shoes are broken in, it will get better. In the meantime, I am wearing a blister bandaid on my ankle. Why does New Balance mess with the design and materials of perfectly good shoes? Very disappointed.

The 840 is the best shoe for my foot. I have high arches and need special orthotics which fit in these. Also have a wide foot and these are available in 2e. Also the sl2 shoe las of this shoe fits me best. And the neutral cushioning is just what my foot needs. Have worn all versions of the 840 and this one is great. Also love the color.

I have been wearing versions of the 840 shoe for 8 years, and version 5 is by far the worst iteration yet. The toe box is not as wide, the heel bed is shallower, and the top of the heel area is short and uncomfortable. I count on this model as I have peripheral neuropathy from one of my breast cancer chemotherapy treatments. I need the space for my toes and the deep heel bed to insure proper fit. The previous versions were literally purchase, put on, and wear with very little break in time necessary. I have walked in 14 3-Day, 60 mile breast cancer walks and these shoes have served me incredibly well with nary any discomfort or blistering. I do not know what I will do now that v4 is impossible to find. Please return the model to its previous wonderfulness.

....right out of the box. I bought two pairs since I get used to a shoe then find it changed when I try to purchase again. I am very happy with my double purchase. New Balance is the only brand of shoes I consider. My feet love them!

I purchased the same style, lighter colour for walking on the treadmill; wanted a darker colour for outside that the store didn't have. Found them online.

According to my podiatrist, the 840V are the best shoe for extra wide feet, and the V4 were amazing...I fell in love with a shoe for the first time in my life! But after wearing them out, I got excited for the V5 but they just don't hold up to the V4. Within 3weeks the mesh around the big toe was tearing and the fit is off. I put the V4's back on and they are night and day. New Balance refunded me the purchase price quickly and efficiently and their customer service is amazing. Unfortunately, the V4 is not available, but I was advised the V3 would be a better option than the V5.

I like the shoe but it wasn't wide enough, have to send it back and order a wider toe box

I love the comfort of the extra wide width in the toe box and midfoot area of the shoe! Perfect for my toes with bone spurs .

Since NB replaced the 840 x4 with the 840 x5 I've been very leery, especially after some of the reviews. But what choice did I have since the 840 x4 is the only shoe I've worn for years? With trepidation I ordered them. Thank goodness they work just fine for me. No issues! Whew

I had plantar fasciitis for years and never thought I would ever fast-pace walk much less jog/run. However, after losing 70 lb (and 30 more lb to lose), along with massage and personal training, I no longer have plantar fascia issues. Also at the heavier weight, I could only find size 7 Extra wide comfortable shoes with New Balance years ago, but now that I lost some weight, I have more options of various brands now that I wear 7 wide, not Extra wide. Nevertheless, I will stick to the NB brand. So, I'm brave enough now to start treadmill workouts, increasing my walking speed, and now that I have the NMB 840v5 I have been able to power walk and light job for a few min at a time with no pain. I even no longer require the use of plantar fascia shoe inserts. As I increase my speed and distance, I may have to get extra cushioning for the ball of my foot, but so far so good with no complaints.

I do Nordic Walking usually every other day, and find these shoes supportive and comfortable
