I HATE how the laces were threaded. And then the holes to rethread were way too small. There was a silly inside loop on the next to last holes that made it impossible to loosen the opening. The side of the shoe rubs against my ankle bone and the rear of the shoe is much higher that other Altras I have bought. I have been a customer for many years but I've had to return two pair so far on this go around. Oh, and the cushioning isn't what I expected. I recommend Altra often but certainly not for the Torin 5.

Good shoe for everyday wear, but quality issues with Altra shoes are persistent. Many Altras I've had recently come apart in some way. In this case, bits of the sole are coming off. The only redeeming thing that earns 2 stars instead of 1 is that I was shipped a new pair due to this being a warranty issue.

I'm on my third pair. These are my favorite shoes I've ever had but after maybe six months or so of wearing them the sole comes off in a repeated pattern. Frustrating. They have to fix the sole, then they'd be perfect.

I was SO excited to have purchased this shoe. Unfortunately in less than a month the bottoms started peeling away. I shouldn't HAVE to shoe glue a new 160$ shoe. I want to love this brand, but quality lacks.

I ordered the Torin 5 Luxe to wear as a casual shoe. It was only used for normal every day walking around. The sole started peeling within a couple weeks. I assumed this was perhaps a defect with this one pair. I called Altra and they had me send the shoes back and offered me a refund. They also provided me with a coupon good for 20% off a new order. I was grateful for the discount. Assuming this wouldn't happen again I ordered two more pair. One in black and one in grey. Unfortunately the same thing happened on both pair. I used superglue to fix the soles. For the price of these shoes this shouldn't be happening.

The reason I'm giving this shoe 2 stars is because I'm tired of buying your expensive shoes that end up with either the sole or toe kick peeling. This shoe is very comfortable but peeled after less than a month of light use. I also just finished thru hiking the Appalachian Trail(NOBO 2022) and went through 5 pairs of Altra Olympus. Every pair peeled (Thank God for Shoe Goo)within the first week(80-100 miles). If you could get this issue resolved you'd easily have one of the best shoes that have ever touched my feet.

Great shoe for comfort; it really helped with my foot pain, however the tread on the rear of the sole is separating on both shoes after a short period as indicated by other reviewers. I made a warranty claim about 12 weeks ago and have not heard back from the Alta team. I am hopeful the warranty will be honored.

Labeled as plush it was anything but. The ankle is super stiff as is the tongue which comes to a point right into your front ankle. I guess they are trying to give a bit of ankle support with this model but it just didn't feel right. I walked around the block with these as a test run for 30 minutes and my ankle started to chafe all around. I deliberately had to pull up my socks higher so the chafing would stop. At $160 I shouldn't have to feel that out of the box hence the 2 star. The shoe is closer to a traditional D width too. I typically get a 4E in other brands but I distinctly noticed my foot causing the sides to flare out when I stepped. Thankfully the sides are supple enough so it didn't cause me discomfort. If you couple this with the ankle situation these were instant returns. Thank you Zappos for making that easy.

Everything about the shoes feel great and was super excited about them until I finished lacing them up, and the tongue on the right foot just pushes and rubs hard on the top of my foot that I can't wear them for more than about 30 seconds. I have tried unlacing and relacing, buying new shoe laces, and nothing helps. I don't know if I got a lemon, because like I said the left shoe is absolutely wonderful, and would make a great daily running shoe for me, but something is very hard -- and wrong with the tongue in the right shoe, and unfortunately they are sitting on the bottom shelf of my shoe closet instead of being on my feet.

Used for general walking and light running every other day. Tread is peeling a new section just about every day after about 2 months of ownership.

Fit and size initially was very nice, freedom for the toes to splay and a well cushioned mid and heel makes for a cloud like sensation when walking. Zero drop, beware of going into zero drop straight from 6mm plus drop, muscle tearing and bleeding internally around the knee can occur. (If you think about it you've been walking around on 8mm plus drop for your entire life, then you take that away, your calves aren't used to it and microtears can occur. I have experienced this twice with going to zero drop straight from Brooks Adrenaline or Asics GT 2000's. The problem with this Torin, however, came with factory defects. I ordered 4 pairs and returned every single pair because there was a large dent in the inserts either on the right side or both sides. I don't know about you but I often run sans socks, so this obvious imperfection bothered my feet enough to return them. Also, you can feel the edges of the inserts under your feet every time you step down and your foot expands, you can feel where the inserts meet the shoe and it is bothersome. For 170.00 I feel Altra could make a better product, with less design flaws and less factory defects. I alerted Altra to the problem that their press was cranking out shoes with defects and they offered to warranty the product, when three pairs were purchased through zappos and one through amazon. All four pairs came with the defect, so I gave up on this shoe. The Lone Peaks are amazing and I wear those on a regular basis. The Torin, however, should be better for the price.
I'd also recommend:

First, the positives: you'll be able to run in this shoe without any major issues. Upper is good, no rubbing, no fitting problems, and they look quite good. The negative: for the expense, this shoe under-delivers in an overwhelming way. Despite premium expense, the feel of this shoe doesn't come close to premium. The sole is thick, but is unresponsive and not even as plush as the regular Torin 5. Feels like a standard 0-feedback sole after relatively low mileage. For comparison, the Saucony Endorphin Speed 2 will take just as many as your hard-earned dollars, but offers a feel and response that truly justifies the cost. This shoe simply doesn't. I'm not sure what has happened over the past couple of years to Altra R&D, but it just no longer offers the innovative quality that it used to be known for. A real shame.

I bought these shoes looking for a nice soft comfortable shoe for those with high arches. However, the shoe is very flat on the inside and is very firm. There isn't a lot of give inside the shoe. I have returned them.

I think 12.5 was my correct size but whats up with the long, poorly padded sharp tongue? Rubbed open wounds after only a few miles and I had to turn around and go home. I was waiting a few weeks for the scabs to come off and try again with higher socks but I decided to return. I will try a size 12 and hope that maybe the tongue is a little softer and shorter-- maybe I just got a defective pair. Other than the sharp tongue I liked the feel.

The shoe fit fine and was the exact style I wanted in a general-purpose sneaker. Within four months, after wearing the shoe for 1-2 hours per day, the bottom began to come apart. I was leaving bits of sole everywhere I went. It wasn't very comfortable when it happened at places like my office. Then, a few months later, the side of one of the shoes ripped apart. Not worth the money.

The sole completely separated from the shoe in less than a month. I'm absolutely outraged. Apparently this is a long documented occurrence and Altra continues to sell this trash. Shameful, NEVER again.

I have completed a warranty return on 3 pairs of Altra Anne's and each new pair continues to have issues! Two pairs have had the sole start to peel off after a few wears and one had the side is the shoe come loose. The last pair I received started to separate after 4 wears! I give up with this company, you have serious quality issues. Otherwise, shoes are comfortable.

I bought the shoe based on my experience with Altra's hiking shoe which I had a great experience with. This shoe was stylish and something I thought as advertised for a lot of walking on my European vacation. One day into my walk, I developed severe plantar fasciitis, because of the lack of cushion and especially lack of arch support. The rest of my vacation was frustrating because my foot was so sore. Never had this experience before. I would recommend the company rethink the engineering on this shoe. Frank Fantozzi

Like many of the other comments here, there is an issue with delamination. I literally wore my sneakers twice before the inside of the toe box started to peel from the fabric, making the shoes unwearable. It's a shame because they look great and are super comfortable. Disappointing. You'd think with all the negative feedback l theyd address the issue but I guess not

I love Altra but these were terrible: they caused my knee trouble when trying them out around the house. Sent them back via FEDEX - still waiting for return to be processed a week later.

Great design, looks great and very comfortable - unfortunately, it doesn't matter. The build quality is terrible. The sole starting falling apart on the second day. How did this shoe pass testing? Please do better

I have been running in Torins for a long time. I switched to Hokas because of the soles peeling off and the upper material wearing out prematurely. It was a move that I didn't want to make. I noticed these problems with Altras around 2020, and I see that these issues haven't been resolved. That's disheartening since they are the best fitting, most comfortable running shoes I have ever worn (even better than the Hoka). Altra used to make a shoe that I didn't mind purchasing once or twice per year at $120-$140 per pair. Hey Altra, start making a quality sole again and I'll bet a lot of us will come back to you. I know that I would. Snipping off or reglueing the rubber soles to try to gain a few more weeks of life out of the shoe, for the price you're asking now, just doesn't make sense any longer. Dang. You're killing me, Smallz.
