I’ve been happy with most altra shoes—love the natural foot shape and large toe box. However, these shoes did not offer stability for my feet and certainly wouldn’t want them for long walks or hikes. I was not at all happy with the style and appearance of these shoes. I had my hopes up due to the many favorable reviews, but these just didn’t work for me. I was more comfortable with Teva Ridgelines.

Fit is fine. Arch support is terrible and caused heel pain.

Was just cleaning off these shoes after my first single-day hike with them, and they had a big tear near the toe box. The most expensive shoes I've ever bought have now become the shortest-lasting shoes I've ever bought. I had seen other reviews knocking the durability, but I didn't think it would be this bad. Really regret this purchase. Other than their disposable durability, they were pretty comfortable, so there's that.

I ended up sending these shoes back because the fit is weird and I did not like the suede material. I have had Altras before and loved them right out of the box. The fit on these were a bit tight out of the box as well as the right shoe had something wrong with the sole on the inside which created a bump that felt weird on my foot. It is not a bad looking shoe, however, the material worried me that it would show every scuff and mark on it. I have had decent luck with the Timps and the Olympus. I think I will go back to the Olympus.

My husband hates them. The colors and style do not look good on him. He thought he was getting a single color. Very disappointed.

I got the black and the white and green and they look great! But regretted them as gave me bad plantar pain. I'm not a zero drop newbie at all, but it seems the heel on these is lower than the forefoot, and rather than a zero drop, it has a negative drop. I have finished ultra's in altra's without any problem, but these set me back big time.

Terrible pair. I regretted buying this. It's too flat footed my feet hurts when walking long distances. The color and texture also looks cheap. Should have bought Olympus instead.

Comfortable shoes but they developed the same tears that other reviews have documented. Customer service determined that is normal offered me 15% off my next purchase so I can repeat that experience?

Bought these shoes just to walk around Italy and France and they were very comfortable. Unfortunately the material around the opening started falling apart apart after about 2 weeks.

Everything is great with these shoes other than the construction! I really love the shoes but only a couple months in and the material is fraying! Shoes for hiking walking running that are this expensive should really last. Hopefully they will remake a future model with a sturdier construction.

Let me start off by saying I absolutely love this shoe. But the quality is subpar at best. After just over 3 months of ownership and mild wear. The top of the left shoe is falling apart. I contacted warranty about the issue and their response is this is normal ware an tear. Which I find unbelievable that I own far cheaper shoes that have far more ware on them and still holding together great. Moral of the story is I would not recommend these to anyone.

I hate writing bad reviews about products especially ones that I love to use. I bought these shoes a little over a month ago and have about 30-50 miles of gentle, non trail, normal walking on them. Right away a large rip/tear appeared on the outside right side by the ankle. I remember hearing a "rip" while I was driving. Since then, the rip has only gotten larger. Looks like poor stitching to me. I emailed the customer service team and sent pictures in but they told me that this is normal wear and tear and they will not honor the warranty. Overall, I'm frustrated by these shoes. They are super comfortable and look so good. But seeing as customer service calls this normal wear and tear, they have poor build quality and I simply can't afford to purchase a new set sneakers every 2 months. I really hope Altra can fix the build issues with this shoe and make them last a little longer. Until then, buyer beware. Ps. It should be noted that my partner and I both have other Altra shoes and do not have this problem.

The shoes fit well and felt amazing on my feet. Sadly, after three weeks of casual wear to the office the right shoe started squeaking in the heel area, badly. After several emails back and forth with Altra, I was told that it was not a manufacturer's defect, and they would not replace the squeaking shoes. After 5 years and 10 pairs of Altras, these will be my last.

There is a loud squeaking noise coming from the sole of the shoe, it sounds like it is in the area of the sole that says "TRAIL CLAWS". I thought that it was going to go away as I wore them; however, it has not stopped in approx 15-20 miles of wearing them. We were in Utah on a hiking and site seeing trip last week and it was so bad that the people we were with asked me to stop wearing the shoes. I have two pair of Lone Peak 5 , one pair of Lone Peak 6, and my wife has three pair of Lone Peak 5 and we have never experienced this issue with any of those shoes. I am extremely frustrated with Altra's customer service. I purchased these shoes locally to support our in town dealer about three weeks ago and did not retain the packaging to be able to return them, because I have other Altra shoes and love them so I did not anticipate having any issues. The response that I received from Altra is "We apologize for the inconvenience but this would be considered wear and tear. Since this is not considered a defect, we are unable to offer you a replacement. Squeaky shoe or noises coming from your shoes are usually caused by air or moisture getting trapped between different parts of the shoe, or by parts of the shoe rubbing against each other directly." REALLY, wear and tear on a pair of shoes that I have only had for three weeks and they have been squeaking the entire time. The other ironic part of their response is the fact that they tell me it is not a manufacturer's defect, but then proceed to explain how it is caused by what sounds to me as exactly what would be considered a manufacturer's defect, where they have allowed air to get trapped between the layers during the manufacturing process, thus causing the squeaking noise to happen. Considering the cost of these shoes, I would expect much better customer service than I am receiving from Altra and this will definitely impact my future buying decisions when it comes time to purchase new hiking shoes. I hope this helps someone else to avoid the issue that I am now stuck with, in addition to being out the money I spent on the shoes!!

Love the comfort and fit. Stitching started coming apart after 60 days of light use and Altra says it's "normal west and tear. Junk product and customer support.

Easily the worst Altra ever made, and possibly the worst shoe I've ever owned. There are like 4 holes for laces. The shoe is just floppy. After of month of casual use, you know, going to Home Cheapo or Blowes and picking up some lumber, then back home, and my feet are literally swimming around in them lol. I have the lone peak 3, 4, 5, and just bought the 6, all low tops, and none of them felt ever remotely this bad. The new 6s are dank. Just don't buy these, they suck.

The upper is fine and they are comfortable...for a little over a month. Then the midsole just breaks down, my foot wallows, and my lower back begins to scream. Moving to a shoe with a different midsole alleviates the pain in about a day. This has happened consistently with every Altra I have purchased with Altra Ego midsole material, going back to the original Escalantes. I keep trying it over and over hoping that it won't happen again, but it does. Every time. With these, strangely for a non-heel-striker, the heel in particular has broken down to the point that it has zero structure; the shoe has a noticeable negative drop. To be clear, these have been used for walking about 2-3 miles daily in a suburban neighborhood, not training for an ultra. I have been wearing Altras exclusively for 8 years now, but since they are transitioning everything to this midsole I personally cannot use their shoes anymore. I could barely walk when I found Altra due to myriad horrifying foot issues - their shoes saved my life in some ways, but now I have the choice of having working feet or a working back (or buying a new set of shoes once a month). Unfortunately, I have to begin the search for something that won't cause me pain all over again. We had a nearly decade-long run and it was fantastic, but Altra's Ego finally pushed me away.
