The Goretex/Thinsulate Bean Boots are the best! The only problem is that they stopped making them in ladies' size 5. I've had mine about 15 or 20 years, and have had them resoled 3 times. The last time, they included a form letter that told me not to send them back anymore (probably because I used them to muck stalls and they smell). I am now relegated to buying little kids' size 3, which is not available with the lining. The minute they start making these again in size 5, I'll buy 2 pair!

Had a pair of these for well over 15 years, (old style without gore-tex). Was sad when they finally wore out, but was "gifted" a pair of cheap knock-offs made overseas. Well needless to say they did not last the season. Glad to have these back on my feet!

I bought these about 15 years ago (maybe even longer). I lived on the Appalachian Trail at the time. I wear a 9.5 medium, so I bought a 10 for the winter socks. They are perfect. I climbed up in ice and snow with knowing my feet were safe. I now live in NYC. They still look great, feel great, and definitely do the job. I have never had my feet get wet while wearing them. And the traction is awesome. The older they get, the better they feel. Thanks!

I realized that I needed to recommend these boots after going sledding with my dad, who wore boots that looked similar, but were some "knock-off" brand. After a day outside with my nephews, he said his feet couldn't have been colder. For my part, while my ears and cheeks were freezing, I had actually *forgotten* that cold feet could have been a problem. Do order them down a good half-size or more, and be prepared to struggle to pull them on with thick socks...but once they're on, they're toasty, dry, and sturdy to walk in. The best!

I ordered exactly as advised and the fit is perfect. My order was backordered until March and received in 4 days. Great service.

I received the boot today and it is a great boot. However I ordered a size 8 AA, one size down from my normal 9AA as recommended by the site, and the boot is too narrow and too short. I am returning it and not sure if I should get a 9AA or a 9 normal width. But I will get another pair.

In anticipation of the wet weather I bought these bean boots, and they are amazing. It doesn't rain much where I am now, but I will be attending Humboldt State in the fall where it rains steadily between November and April. The little storms I encounter here in Orange County are no match for my bean boots. I can step in a deep puddle and my feet will still be cozy, warm, and dry. When I first took them out of the pakaging they were a little tight, but after wearing them around the house for awhile they losened up and now fit perfectly. I did as perscribed and ordered a size and a half down from what I usually wear. I definatly recommend these boots, they are great.

This boot will be great once I have my sz, however, when ordering, order one half size larger, as they run a bit small.

Great fit ~ I wear a size 8 normally and these boots were a perfect fit, in the same size; I like to wear medium-thick weight socks, with them. I have high arches and I'm careful to only wear padded/thick bedded shoes and these boots are it! My feet have never been warmer, even when it's wet and below zero out. I will never wear anything but these, in the winter, again!

I bought these for my wife for Christmas. She got to try them on to make sure they fit. She said they are extremely comfortable and she can't wait for our snow trips to get to use them

I have had the same boots for 9 years and they are in PERFECT shape!! I bought these in 2000 when I moved to Maine in January to attend UMO. I used them for two hard winters there! Then when I moved to Switzerland (now living here for 6 years) they have kept my toes and feet warm from the ice, snow, and slush! I HIGHLY recommend these boots!

Always consistent quality. I followed the specific sizing instructions and the boots fit perfectly. Can always seem to count on LL Bean.

These are the best boots ever! In 1980, my Dad sent me a pair of LLB boots while I was a freshman in college. No lining, no insulation but great boots...I wore those boots until about 2 years ago when I just couldn't squeeze my one-size-larger-post-twins-feet into them. I decided to treat me and my cold New England feet to a new pair of waterproof insulated boots. Nirvana Warm, flexible, comfortable and no wet feet!! If only my other shoes could be this good! The only winter boots you'll need, worth the investment, you'll have them for years.

A great combination of form and function. My Bean boots look nice, fit great and keep my feet warm & dry. Very high quality construction. Only complaint is that it took about a week's worth of wearing to get through that "breaking in" stage, but a small price to pay for boots I'll have for years.

This is the first year I'm actually shoveling snow. I wanted a pair of boots that would keep my feet warm and dry. So far I'm really happy with my choice. My Mom had a pair of Bean Boots that lasted her nearly 20 years, hopefully mine will too. The option to order them in a wider width was really nice, I can move my toes around and I don't get foot cramps.

Was looking for a new pair of waterproof/resistant winter boots and was delighted to see that these came in a wide width to accommodate my bunions and thick winter socks. They fit like an absolute dream and were comfortable from the first wear, even when walking some distance. I have extremely blister-prone feet, and these were perfect right out of the box. The insulated boots kept my feet warm during a recent cold spell of single digit temps when we seemed to get snow every day. My one gripe is that the leather on the upper looks very dry and stiff and honestly a little cheap, which is not what I would expect from LL Bean, especially at this price point. I conditioned them already with leather cream, and it helped a little, but the leather still appears to be very dry. Since the fit is so good, I am hopeful that the leather will soften over time and use. Typically wear a 7.5 wide, unless the toe box of the shoe is generous, and ordered these in a 7 wide.

These boots are fantastic. I've always wanted a pair and finally took the plunge, and boy am I glad I did. My feet stay nice and warm while staying dry. I did have to exchange for a smaller size than the size chart recommended. I highly recommend these boots.

I am a 9 with a more narrow foot and ordered both the 8 and 9 and found that these run true to size. They may be a tad bigger but with the liner and socks I think they’re perfect. Wore them in snow and they kept my feet warm! The only downfall was the size 9 pair had the left foot liner protruding into the toe area. It felt like almost too much glue got on it so it was stiff. I wore them around the house and it loosened up and I don’t even notice it anymore if it’s still there. Overall, happy with my purchase and would recommend!

So, as so many have already mentioned, I did extensive review reading to sort out a size I would need (I do not have store within 200 miles of me, so I had no way to try them one). I'm a shorter guy, with a pretty small foot (7.5-8 in most men's sneakers, with a 7-7.5 in most cowboy boots). I know so many reviews mentioned going a full size down, however the smallest I could go was a 7, so i took a gamble. Standing still, they were okay. As soon as I started walking though, they felt too large, and almost clown shoe-like. I went for a drive, and my foot slid all the way back, leaving a lot of room in the toe bed. I really wish they had a size 6 in men's (or just offered half sizes....). Anyway, I did some foot math, and realized a women's 8 is the same as a men's 6, so I ordered a women's 8 wide (they look the exact same, so no one is going to know). It's just a HAIR too short, but not enough to make it a deal breaker. And honestly, when I'm in regular socks (and not super thick ones), I don't even notice. Now, we haven't had super crazy weather yet, but these things are definitely very comfortable (although they do still have some breaking in to do). I'm excited to get them in some better suited conditions, but at the moment they have been exactly what I was looking for. Super soft inside, decently warm (and not TOO warm as I was afraid of), and easy to get on and off. I wear them to the gym in the mornings, and like to be able to just slide my foot and back out without tying anything. All in all, very happy with these, and looking forward to many years of use!

boots, quality etc all fine. The lining color, which was important to daughter, wasn't as shown on website when purchased. too much of a hassle to return just for that, plus she needed them for school. Since then the picture on website has been changed to more accurately reflect what you will receive.

I bought this boot for my wife to use for deer and elk hunting in Colorado in moderately cold weather. We would purchase only an American made Bean boot. This boot shows a quality build and worked reasonably well for our hunts. I'd hoped to find a Bean boot with a more lugged, traction design but, unfortunately, Bean does not use such a tread. We walked in some snow and mud and the boots worked well but I don't believe they would have been as good on a rugged mountain trail or climbing over rocks. My wife wore heavy wool socks which allowed her to walk in temperatures down to about freezing with comfort. Had it been much colder, or if she'd had to sit in a stand for an hour or two, the boots would not have worked for her. These boots worked marginally well for her but they were not the best choice. If I was going on a Spring or early fall pheasant hunt, these boots would be perfect. I would not recommend them for a cold, rugged hunt in the snowy mountains but I don't believe they were designed for that. We purchased another boot for my wife to use in deep snow at really cold temperatures. If kept within reasonable limits, these boots are outstanding.

I wear a size 6.5 in flats, sneaker, sandals and a 7 in running shoes and boots, usually. I have narrow feet and ankles. I feared that these boots would run too big, so I went smaller despite the reviews and recommendations that suggested otherwise. I began the search for the 8" GorTex/Thinsulate LL Bean boots by ordering a 6.5N, which was way too narrow and small, even without thick socks; I could barely wiggle my toes. Because that first pair was so narrow, I exchanged (with ease, thanks LLBean!) for a lot bigger -- a 7M. When these ones arrives, they were comfortable in length though a bit long and pretty good for width in the toe area... but even with thick socks my heel was slipping too much to be comfortable. Back they went. So I ended up getting a 7N, which has been the best fit. It's a little snug where the rubber part meets the leather at the top of the foot, especially with thick socks (so for those on the brink of narrow/medium and who don't have narrow ankles you may want to go to medium). That snugness was more bearable to me than the heel slipping, as it's near impossible to tighten the boot in such a way as to secure the heel. I am hoping that my feet will adjust to the feel of these boots (often the case for me), and the leather will get softer and stretch/form a bit as I break them in. I've learned to love a lot of shoes that fit worse than these their first time on my feet, so I think these will be good boots. I got these in preparing to move to Vermont, per the recommendation of a friend. Looking forward to breaking them in more and they definitely feel like they'll be good and warm. You'll find that the leather shaft is very stiff and thick-feeling at first (especially with the insulation, which is kind of stiff at first too), and the tongue seemed stiff and had a funny fold in it, but after wearing them around the house for a couple hours, I noticed the leather beginning to crease which I think will make for good, comfortable boots fitted well for me! Though I haven't tested them in the cold yet and it may take a bit of time to break them in, I can tell that the quality is good and I believe that they will do their job well.

Full size a little bit too long but will fit a thick sock if ever needed. I haven't worn them in deep snow yet.

So I was thinking I was suppose to size up. I guess fortunately for me they didn't have a bigger size (I'm size 11.) It was a little tight, so I can't even wear thick socks without my feet feeling stuffed.
