My 19-year old grandson was happy to get these boots. I got him some super thick socks to wear with them, and they fit well that way. If a person wears thin socks, these boots will be a looser fit.
It just makes sense to use socks that will absorb foot moisture and provide more warmth when a person is out in the cold with these -or any-boots.

Great boot. 2nd pair in 20 years, lost 1st pair in a move. Plenty of room for thick socks in cold weather.

I normally wear a size 10D. I ordered a size 9D as suggested by the sales rep.
The boots were comfortable right out of the box.
If you plan on ordering, call and talk with a sales representative with your concerns.

I have been wearing L. L. Bean's MAINE HUNTING SHOES since the 60's . The original title, before they succumbed to pandering to the market that "did NOT know the outdoors". They used to be able to be ordered by tracing your foot on a piece of paper and sending it in with your mail order. Additionally, they were offered in elk tan or brown (slightly warmer it was advertised) They even had you measure your ankle/calf circumference at the desired height of the boot. And you were even able to get the boot resoled when the stitching went away or the chain tread wore out. (I did this numerous times) Any way, all that said, these were and are my go to boot for the outdoors. My first year deer hunting in the cold Wisconsin woods everyone else was wearing Sorels. I was the only one in our group who had the Maine Hunting shoes with sheepskin inner sole and 2 pair of socks. Worked great. I've worn these boots in the deep woods of the Allagash and in the cedar swamps of the Upper Peninsula of Michigan. They were my hunting boot on the plains of southern Idaho. And they got me through the messy and nasty Illinois winters when the "too cool for school" dudes laughed at my "fashion" while their trendy shoes fell apart in the Chicago slush. I currently have 2 boots, one almost 20 years old with little tread and the newer brown resurrected "Maine Hunting Shoe". Both do the job. The older pair is slightly smaller and are great with light socks. The new ones are true size and definitely require thick wool socks otherwise they get sucked down to the toes. One cannot go wrong with these shoes. They aren't designed for climbing like in hunting in the Rockies, but anywhere else ground meets water/snow/slush/mud, they have no equal.

I rarely do a review, but I felt compelled to review these boots. I live in West Michigan and we are known for our snow. I purchased the non-insulated ones because I wanted something to wear in our sloppy spring weather. However, wearing a medium to thick wool sock makes these boots ideal for snow as well. The traction of the sole was better than expected and I don't worry where I step in this cold weather. They fit well and are comfortable (I went a half size smaller). They are quality boots and great for snow and sloppy wet conditions.

This is the second pair I've had. Fit and finished is great. Very comfortable! Hope this pair lasts 20 years like the first pair!

I have resisted investing in a pair of Bean Boots for years now, trying to skim by with other brands' knockoffs. Well I'd already worn through two cheaper pairs, so I figured I'd see if the real thing was any different. While I've only had these for a few months, I can already tell how the quality is just on a different level than the competition. I've waded into freezing water almost to the tops of these and my feet stayed warm and dry. I already know that if I wear the sole out I'll send them in to get re-soled because of how much I love the leather. I'm a customer for life now!

Everything I have come to expect from Bean products; great value and last forever; supper service on the website and timely delivery ...
You get what you pay for ... don't settle for impostors ... you will be glad you didn't get lesser products;

As soon as you open the box you can tell these boots are well built. I genuinely appreciate that they're made in the U.S., and handmade at that. Miranda did a great job on these! (See picture)
I wear a 10.5 in most shoes so I originally ordered a 10. L.L. Bean recommends rag wool socks with half a size to allow circulation and warmth. Even with thick socks, the 10 was way too big. I exchanged for a size 9 and it's perfect. Love the construction and they're so versatile and utilitarian. Perfect for unpredictable Arkansas weather! I would highly recommend these!

Both my sons were very pleased with this gift and have already gotten much wear out of their 8 inch L. L. Bean classic duck boots. They prefer these to the insulated for our climate. On colder days they can wear warmer socks. Definitely order a size down as they do run large.

I purchased these for my husband for Christmas and he absolutely loves them. I was skeptical about placing the order in his true size and I had to return them for a size down. He wears a 11 I ordered and 10 and return them for a size 9. The return was the easiest I have ever had with any company. LL Bean you rock!

My husband wears a solid 14 so I ordered a 14. They were WAY too big. I sent back for a 13 and they were still too big!? I sent back again and got a 12 which fits him great. He absolutely loves the boots and so excited to finally have a pair but the sizes are way off.

I bought these boots because I live in AZ, but had a scheduled work/pleasure trip to Lake Louise/Banff, Canada in January. These boots absolutely saved me in the snow, ice and sub zero temps. I wore them with a pair of LL Bean Rag socks and my feet were toasty warm. They were comfortable from the start and needed no break in time. The sizes are large enough to allow for a pair of heavy socks to be worn. I heartily recommend these boots if you need warmth, traction and water resistance.

I am writing this review about two years after buying these boots, but that's the point I guess. I put them on the other day to go outside in the snow and the slop and I congratulated myself on being smart enough to buy such a valuable product and told myself again that I needed to write an online review, something I seldom do. If it gets cold where you live, do yourself a favor and buy a pair of these classics. They are everything that has been claimed for them.

These were a Christmas gift for my son in college. I had bought a pair for my 2 other sons and knew it would be a great product and gift. I was not disappointed. These are great boots and I will continue to choose them each time a good pair of this type of boot are requested. You won't be disappointed. Just read reviews on sizing as these boots run a bit large and you might need a smaller size than you normal shoe size.

I just got these after returning my first pair. Regardless of what you think, DEFINITELY ORDER ONE SIZE SMALLER!
They are comfortable, and I cannot wait to really put them to the test. I am wearing them around the house to get them loosened up. I am sure I will get a lifetime out of these, and I will be able to pass them on. This is the one product this company was built on, and I am now proud to own a pair. They take pride in every pair they make.

I have had my duck boots for years and have really enjoyed them! I was excited to see that my 15 year old grandson had requested them on his Christmas list. I live in NC and I ordered the boots on a Tuesday and by a Christmas miracle received them on Thursday. By using your sizing guide the boots were a perfect fit. You guys are the best! He loved them and that made both of our Christmas. Thank you for an excellent product and excellent customer service! Always sing the Bean praises!!
