I bought this coat last winter. I live in central VT and have a dog that needs to be walked a few times a day. It has been my habit to also walk to my office, one mile from my house. I was replacing a Columbia parka that is big and bulky. I was very much looking forward to a lightweight warm down coat. Unfortunately I absolutely freeze in this coat. It is just not warm enough when the weather is below 35, or so. After wearing it for a year and adding so many layers beneath it to stay warm I have gone back to wearing my old Columbia. It's not stylish but at least it keeps me warm.
Sorry, llbean , poor and misleading advertising on the warmth factor of this coat. It works great in the Speing and Fall.

I have a lightweight 3/4 coat from Bean I got several years ago, has been wonderful except for the zipper which failed and can't be replaced according to our local seamstress place (snaps in the way). Sadly this new one won't work for me, very disappointing.
Pros:
Beautiful color, soft fleece inside pockets, zippered side pockets, good length, fit okay (though slimmer in hips than my old one) except for too long arms
Cons:
smells awful of some chemical (that alone makes it impossible to keep for me), quite a bit thinner than old one of this style so not as warm, flimsy zipper, hood not detachable (old one was), sleeves too long, outside fabric a thinner nylon (not sure would hold up), no inside pocket with a zipper (there is a large stuff pocket inside)
Please please Bean, go back to the older style which though thicker and warmer still stuffs into a small pouch and has a detachable hood & better fabric. And please get rid of whatever the chemical smell is and improve the zipper.

My best clothes, favorite clothes are all LL Bean. That being said this winter coat was a disappointment. I am about 5'1" and 136-139....All my coats are LL Bean, but this style did not look good on me. The zipper looked impoverished.... too thin, the coat itself was also thin.
I returned it and got a merchandise card and happily bought some other LL Bean clothes.

So excited to received this coat and wear to Grandson's baseball games. Spring can be chilly in South Carolina 40-50 degrees . This coat keeps the wind at bay but is not as warm as expected, still need several layers underneath to keep warm. It is very light in weight. Would have returned but have worn twice (hoping it was just an exceptionally cold day) and removed all tags.

The coat didn't seem to be the quality I expected. I returned it.

I loved this jacket when I first bought it two years ago; very warm and comfortable. I didn't mind spending the money because typically LL Bean has great quality and customer service. Unfortunately, the zipper broke off when I was bending down, taking some teeth with it. LL Bean won't exchange it and even says they won't fix it (I would pay!). Now it's a fairly useless coat because I used it when it was cold out - a coat that can't be zipped isn't helpful in a western NY winter. Very disappointed in both the quality and the customer service; I don't plan on buying anything else from them again.

I loved this coat, lightweight and warm, however, the outer shell is very thin and kept popping holes near the stitching resulting in exchanging it three times. I would buy this again if the outer shell was more durable.

The coat isn't cut properly. It's boxy and doesn't keep out the cold well.

Bought this because I was so happy with the 850 hooded jacket, but was disappointed with it. The 3/4 length coat is much thinner and not as warm. There is a 3.3 oz weight difference between the two and I suspect much of that is in the added zipper length and not the down. it's going back.

This coat fits nicely and looks beautiful, however it is not very warm! For the price and 850 down fill I would expect it to be a lot warmer than it is. It will be a great fall coat!

Wore it last night, a damp 45 degrees with a long sleeve tee and light quilted vest and I was really cold. It's not a winter coat. Disappointed.

I loved this coat - super warm, versatile, and easy to pack. I wore to the office as well as on camping trips. Unfortunately, after 2 seasons, there is a hole in the chest, with feathers flying out. It was packed for the summer, so I have no idea how the hole got there. For the price of the jacket, it should've lasted longer.

I thought this was the same coat I bought a few years ago. It may be but the size fits bigger on me. I love the product but hope to be able to return it to get a smaller size.

While this down coat was definitely lightweight, it was not suitable for a Chicago winter climate without wearing multiple layers underneath it. That said, it might work for a more moderate winter climate.

Liked it except for the scratchy fabric lining pockets-Deal breaker for me. Surprised by this especially considering high price. Returned.

This coat would not keep me from freezing to death during a storm. I am disappointed with the quality of both my first coat and its replacement. The coat I returned was at least warmer and longer, even though its down feathers were coming out at the seams. Sorry, but for me, LLBean didn't hit the mark this time.

Quality seems ok. Fit is poor. Arm circumference needs to be bigger especially for plus sizes. Please update your specs.

I appreciate the quality of this coat, but I find it short. it is about 2-3" shorter than my last (5 years ago) LLBean coat. I had hoped I was replacing the old one that I loved so much. THis one seems more skimpy.

Great coat in terms of fit, weight and length. HORRIBLE coat in terms of durability. Overly expensive in terms of quality. Within 4 weeks, interior feathers poked through and ripped the fabric. LLBean described the material as flimsy and would not authorize an exchange.

It's a great ultra lightweight coat, but the zipper broke after two months. The dry cleaner thought he could reattach the zipper's top half, which had flown off onto the car's footwell. He tried valiantly. Then pointed out the zipper's teeth that were missing. Knowing it would take at least two weeks to return to LL Bean and back, I let him keep it to replace the zipper within a week. Because we had just moved to snowy SD from the sunny West Coast, I then went downtown and bought a backup down coat from Duluth Trading. New zipper plus backup coat cost more than this LL Bean coat!!

I had this coat for a year and small tear appears. The fabric is extremely thin and they don't want to give me a new one with their new policy, but make poor quality items. I shouldn't have to spend this amount of money on it coat and have it ripped after I wear it six times. Other coats from outdoor companies I have purchased in the past have never ripped, and if they did they would replace them. I have been a card member with this company for over 30 years. I think it's time to find a new company

I was so excited to be getting this coat. My old jacket, (not LLBean), which I loved, was really starting to show its age. I continued to wear my old jacket during the first cold snap, as I was outside with the grandkids, and I wanted to keep the new coat from getting dirty. I finally decided that I bought the coat, I should just wear it. Today, on my second wearing of the coat, feathers started coming out of the left sleeve. Somehow, between dropping a giftbag off at church and picking up one library book, there is a small hole already in the sleeve. It isn't even like I was doing anything strenuous that would rip it. I wish I had listened to the reviews that said it rips easily. I waited a few years to get this expensive coat. What a waste of money. I love LLBean products, but this is one to avoid. Very disappointed.

I didn't want to believe the other reviews, so I ordered this coat. I initially loved it, but it snags so easily. I reached under our seats in our car to grab an item and it rubbed across the bottom of the seat (which was not sharp) and boom, a snag immediately. I have worn this for 2 days. I'm so disappointed and will be sending it back.
