I have ordered this coat on more than once occasion. The first time, I had the coat for less than a week and my friends puppy (still in the nipping stage) managed to put a small hole in it. Returned, and ordered it in a medium instead of the small (5'0 130 size 4) wrong idea follow the sizing online! The cut (when in your correct size) is feminine and fashionable accentuating the waist. However, this medium coat (which I ordered another small for) too got a hole from everyday use. Somehow my backpack (also ll bean) caught onto the coat, perhaps by a sharp edge of a folder or binder pressing against the (4 years old and well worn) backpack causing a hole in the coat and feathers to fly out. However I keep coming back to the coat because it is so warm and lightweight. I took it to Canada during winter and did not feel cold at all!

I've had this jacket in Ash Heather since Nov 2017. I have several of the bulkier Ultrawarm Jackets and Long Coats, but wanted something more professional looking. PROS: Color is great, very neutral brownish grey. It is ultralight and can roll up into a purse/bag if needed. Zipper works well from bottom or top & like the fitted hood. It is comfy but fitted (I'm 5' 4" 145 lbs, medium allows suit jacket or sweater underneath no problem). It's reasonably warm for everyday errands, etc. CONS: Strange toggles for hood that poke into my neck. Down escaping from jacket within a week, continues daily. Stitching coming apart in various areas. I'm not particularly hard on my clothes. I've worn this mainly indoors. I've been so pleased with the Ultrawarm Jacket line quality; but this Ultratlite is a big disappointment. Not the quality I expect for that price. I can get a down jacket that falls apart for much cheaper at a big box store.

While I like the cut, the jacket is not nearly as warm as I expected. No way I would wear it if the temperature was below 30.

Once again I am having a problem with the length of misses items. The sleeves on this jacket are much too short. I am 5'8" and the sleeves are not long enough. If you look at patagonia, north face and even columbia your sleeve length is about 2 inches shorter than theirs. I have had to return several outerwear items due to sleeve length. I hope you will consider altering them or making a tall option.

I bought this coat for my daughter who is at college. One week after I sent it, she told me there were feathers coming from the wrist area. Apparently it ripped and she didn't even know it. This leads me to believe it's a thin outer material, if it ripped and she didn't even know. It's an expensive coat to have rip so easily. Disappointing!

I wanted to love this. Love the color, love the fit, but the zipper was cheap and always got stuck when I tried to unclasp it at the bottom and for $200+ it wasn't warm enough for midwest winter weather below 30 degrees. Very comfortable jacket though and easy to move around in. I ended up returning it.

The coat was lovely in all ways, but it was just not warm enough for me, especially in the arms. I had to return it.

Did not realize this coat was so shaped. Nice for a slimmer look but at 4'11' this shaped coat waistline falls below my waist and also was so long it hit my knees.

Love the weight, warmth and hood. However, the coat does not hang well (bunches at the front) and although I ordered my usual size (large), the coat is too voluminous. Have bought many Bean coats over the years and this is the first time I have been disappointed.

This coat is just the length and weight I wanted for everyday use. I like the fact that it would not be too bulky to use for travel but I really do not like one design detail. In black, when the coat is not zipped up all the way, there is a visible grey area around the neck. This grey area makes the coat immediately more casual, less sophisticated and less complimentary in my mind. A SOLID black coat would have had a simpler, cleaner look. This is the same reason I don't like visible name labels on coats - they distract from the overall look of the coat. (This coat does have a name label on the bottom hem of the coat but I could have lived with that.) Please make this coat in a SOLID black design for next year!

After not being able to buy this coat last year because it didn't have a hood, I was excited to buy this version with a much needed hood. However, it seems like hoods are not Bean's strongest point - the hood is subpar for the nice coat, it is uncomfortable and to tighten it you have to unzip the coat up to your chest because it tightens on the inside! Even some of my cheaper down coats have a more practical mechanism of tightening the hood with little buttons/strings on the outside. The tightening string also runs too far away from the edge of the hood, equivalent about a quarter width of the hood which is... just odd. Hope Bean improves on this first attempt of the hood.

I am 5 foot, 100 lbs P/xs. The coat is well made and would love to keep itI have the long coat which fits perfectly. This shorter coat, which I've been waiting for with hood, is much larger through the chest and arms by almost an inch by comparison measurement. For the price, I will send it back as it is just too large and it is the smallest size.

I've had this coat for over a year now. Love the look and fit of this coat but it is not at all water resistant. Gets soaked in snow flurries and is a mess in the rain. Also is not at all wind resistant. Wind blows right through. Only good on dry, windless cold days

Good winter weather protection but a few uses, the down feathers are already starting to come out. I am considering returning the coat for this reason.

In many ways, this is one of the best coats I've ever owned. It's extremely comfortable, not bulky at all, and warm enough for Massachusetts winters. The petite fit is perfect. That said, I cannot give it a high rating. The coat rips incredibly easily. I bought one, and a small hole appeared for no apparent reason the fabric is just so delicate that even normal daily wear can cause snags and tears. I contacted L.L.Bean but could not return it (just over a year old) and it could not be repaired. Additional holes continued to pop up. I loved it so much, however, that I bought a second one same issue. Today, it snagged on something in a store and ripped again, leaving a large hole. At $300, I cannot justify buying a third. I really love the weight and fit, but after spending almost $600 on these coats and dealing with repeated damage, I cannot recommend it. It's unfortunate because the design and comfort are excellent, but the fabric's durability is a major problem.

The old version had thicker fabric, no hood and nice colors like aqua. The price has gone up, the new coat is thinner, and it's the same boring colors. Please make one with a detachable hood and $300?? Way too much for what you get.

Very warm, nice fitting and looks good. Unfortunately the outer material is like tissue paper and rips upon contact with anything that offers resistance.

I ordered this coat since i was always very pleased with similar purchases from LLBean but this coat has been a big disappointment. I've only worn this coat about five times and the zipper broke four times. I'm tired of struggling to fix it each time and would like LLBean to replace it with one with more quality.

Disappointed in some of the reviews, disappointed that you do not offer this coat with a detachable hood and I guess I'll wait till you change your style. My old one is a dear favorite. Industry

I bought this coat about two years ago and until recently have worn it exclusively for walks and going back and forth to work. Last week I wore it while working in my backyard; the coat now has puncture wounds and tears from some plastic netting that I was moving that covers my koi pond. Very disappointed now in this coat's durability and I can't find a good way to repair it.

Quality not great. Definitely not as expected for $279. The nylon shell material is poor quality and the down comes out of it.

I have finally tossed this coat due to the ongoing zipper issues. I liked the weight, the fit and the length. Zipper kept getting stuck at a certain point, zipping either up or down. Called to try to get exchange or credit but it was past the return date. Nursed it along for several years with WD 40 but it finally got stuck permanently. Not worth the $ to get new zipper. Had similar issue with down vest. I understand I'm not alone on this. Won't be purchasing anything with zippers from LL Bean, unless the factory has changed zipper manufacturer.
