This down coat is nice and warm. Roomy enough to wear a bulky sweater underneath.

- Coat is light weight and warm with no need of heave inner layers
SOME SUGGESTIONS:
- zippers on side seams would make sitting morn comfortable
- snap at neck/collar would help keep hood on head and add warm
- ribbed cuffs under cuff shell would make sleeves more wind- proof
All in all an excellent value as expected from llbean

I ordered this coat to replace one that was getting older and less warm. This one is great. It really is quite warm since it's an 850 fill. It runs a little big so there's extra room, which was great for me. LLBean tends to be a little boxy in the shoulder and chest area for me and this coat is like that too but seems to fit fine and will allow for layering underneath as needed. Looking forward to many winters kept warm by this coat!

I have great difficulty finding coats that fit, feel good & look good so despite a couple of problems, I'm giving this coat a five star rating which is something I rarely do. It's extremely lightweight, comfortable & surprisingly warm. It zips/unzips easily; being able to unzip the bottom half while driving is a nice feature. Sleeves are a bit long for me, but the elastic "cuff" tucks the extra fabric out of sight. The cut is flattering & fits well except for the shoulders being too snug for bulky sweaters. Shoulder room is fine with regular thickness sweaters and tops. I haven't worn the coat under extreme weather conditions for extended periods, but it has been great during routine wear/chores in winter weather including snow, high wind and below freezing temps. I highly recommend this ultra light 850 coat. I also commend L.L. Bean for including height, weight & size purchased in reviews which helps tremendously in making better purchase decisions. I haven't seen this feature offered in reviews from other companies.

A planned trip to Iceland and, from there, to England for hikes in the North meant I needed to buy a new jacket. I wanted something warm, packable (we pack very light when traveling) and water resistant. After searching without much luck in stores, an online search showed me several jackets that seemed to fit the need.
This was the second jacket I ordered and tried (the first from a different company), and I immediately knew I'd found my coat. It is lighter than I imagined it would be, and feels very soft and plush. I love how it fits - I often find jackets that fit nicely in the shoulders and chest are tighter than I'd like in the hips; that wasn't the case with this one, though it does hug the hips. I got the petite, which I think helped as the ins and outs of my body aligned where they were expected to.
After much deliberation about color, I chose the blue and I'm so glad I did. I have so many black items in my closet, and live in a place where the cold, dark winter is really dark (Oregon) and a little color is always appreciated. The blue is a rich, subdued hue and I've received lots of compliments on it.
Although I haven't yet had the chance to pack and travel with this jacket, I've trialed sizing it down to fit into my travel gear and it's easy to compress and then to shake out. One element I don't think much about is the hood on jackets. I've never found one that works well and doesn't either leave the front part of my head uncovered, slip off at will, or cinch up so tightly my face looks like a pale bubble peeking out. This hood is amazingly sized and attached in a way to provide lots of cover and staying power. I will leave the umbrella behind and rely on my hood to keep me dry.
I'm not alone in loving this jacket, and earlier reviews helped convince me to try it. They were not wrong! I strongly recommend it, too.

Perfect for temps hovering in the 20s-30s, and plenty of room for layering underneath. I tend to run hot so this is a great shell for me.

The more I wear this coat the more I like it. The comfort and lightweight warmth and style are just what I was looking for. I ordered the Dark Plum which is more a cranberry color than a purplish plum color but still a good color for me. I would even buy this coat again in another color.

I was looking for a coat that would pack easily and keep me warm. The length is perfect! The salesperson in the Easton store showed me how the coat packs in the "Stow" bag. Brilliant. The color is also a nice neutral without being boring. I plan to wear a bright plaid scarf with it.

This coat is still going strong since I bought it in 2017 unlike problems I have had with stuck zippers with the Warm Core Down and Ultrawarm coats! I wear a Waffle Henley under this. It is perfect for weather in the 50's.

This coat slides on very comfortably. From the start it felt like an old friend. The zipper is easy to put together, the pockets are at a good height and angle, the length is perfect for sitting in the car. It is quite warm. I can't wear it indoors very long without getting hot. Although puffy, it doesn't look bulky at all.

Have bought many coats from LLBean over the years. This one is the best ever. Soft, great length, nice pockets , a comfy hood. The navy is a beautiful shade. Couldn't be happier, thanks!

What an amazing coat! I wanted a trimmer looking winter coat that would be warm enough for Michigan winters and this is a winner! I can't believe how a coat so light weight can be so warm. I wore the coat to and from the car as well as walking about during the recent polar vortex with several layers underneath and I was warm! We are talking windchill of 25-30 degrees below! I loved it so much I went to the nearest LL Bean store and bought a second one in a different color.

Because of multiple spinal compression fractures, I cannot bear a lot of weight on my shoulders. This coat weighs NOTHING. And it is so warm!

This coat is a great packable down. I ordered the petite large. It was so large that I exchanged for a medium. The double zipper allows me to open the coat at bottom for sitting in a car. It really does pack into the pocket for stowing on a plane--just keep stuffing and compressing. Coat is very warm.

This is exactly what I wanted; light weight but very warm and the exact length, knee length. The fit is perfect and very comfortable, not bulky. I would recommend it to anyone.

I love the Ultralight 850 Down Hooded Coat. It is lightweight, warm, and water-repellent. In addition, it will pack down into a small space for example in a suit case. It is best to wear it with a midweight layer which is what I do in the winter indoors anyway.

I bought this coat specifically for wearing to work, and ended up taking it on a 10 business trip to Europe. I spent 3 days total sightseeing in very cold weather, walking nearly 8 miles a day. This coat kept me cozy when outdoors all day, looked great for work, and stuffed easily into my backpack anytime I didn't need it. Double zipper at the bottom great to open a bit for freer movement, lots of zip pockets, including interior pockets. The attached hood was very handy and cozy. Easily went over layers. Love this coat!

I have the long in this version and now have the short!and find that it fits with bulky and light clothing. It's featherlight and great for draping on the back of a theater or sporting event seat and walking in the city.

This jacket is lightweight but, provides enough warmth for a cold winter day.
I love the style as well as the comfort. Usually I have trouble with the zipper on a jacket that is this length and so far, I've had no problems getting it zipped up or down. This is definitely my favorite LL Bean winter jacket!

Love this coat! Regarding the size - mine is a petite- if I am not dressed in multiple layers it feels a little big. I love that it breathes well. I can go from being outside for long periods of time walking or other non strenuous exercise and then take a 30 - 45 minute car ride without feeling over heated. I would highly recommend this coat.

This is a GREAT coat, it is so light weight and so warm without being bulky which I love it, honestly, when this one wears out I'll purchase another. The only thing I don't care for is the hood, I would prefer a coat without one, but it wouldn't stop me from repurchasing this coat. It has been in the 20s where we live and no trouble in the cold with this coat and I love the length! I also love the dual zipper so I can unzip at the bottom when sitting in the car. This coat is great!!

Sadly my coat was stolen over the holidays. This was the absolute best coat I ever had. True to size and comfortable in every temperature. Most important it was as light as a feather. You did not feel you were wearing a coat that was keeping you warm from the elements judging from the weight of the coat. This coat is worth every cent. Don't hesitate buy the coat you will not be sorry. I'm still hoping someone returns my coat. Stay warm this winter.
