I purchased the X Ultra 4 Gore-Tex shoes in July last year, and overall, I was satisfied with their quality and comfort. They provided a comfortable fit, allowing me to walk a considerable distance of about 150 kilometers. However, I encountered a significant issue: the shoes started to tear on both sides, resulting in them losing their waterproof feature. To my disappointment, I found that many other customers have experienced the same problem with this model, as indicated by various reviews. Considering the price point and the reputation of the Salomon brand, I expected the shoes to maintain their quality and durability.

I only had this option because I need a wide shoe. I used these for hiking and walking on mixed surfaces of trails and roadsides on a 150 mile trek in Norway this summer. I feel like they shouldve lasted a little longer. The tread is worn out on the ball of the foot area, the fabric is falling apart in the backs and they are already worn out.

I bought the X Ultra and it bothers my feet and my heels . I can't wear them for more than an hour because the pain is uncomfortable. I tried this time to buy a different model and it did not go well. I prefer the ones I've always had: XA Pro

I've worn nothing but salomon shoes for hiking for 30+ years. When my x-ultra gtx shoes gave up the ghost I didn't shop around, I ordered these. Only they've been "improved". The laces pattern on the new model has shifted higher on the foot. In consequence, the lace doesn't come over the toes anymore, so the shoes fold and cut right where my toes meet my feet. Ouch. At the top, the higher lacing reduces the opening and makes it harder to slip in my foot, especially as I have high arches... a longer lace might have helped. The rear of the shoe is lower than it used to be and the mushy fabric offers no support, so watch those ankles on the downhill. The ortholite foot bed is still perfect for high arches; and they are still true to size, though a little tighter at the base of the toes. All in all, poor design and fit; the materials feel cheaper than the previous generation but I can't comment on durability as I am returning these. I now have to look for my perfect hiking shoe elsewhere :(

My fianc bought these for me a year ago to have a good all weather hiking shoe but these run too big and honestly not comfortable in all the travels we've done. I prefer my Sorel (cold terrain) or Merrill (wet terrain) over these. My foot measures 10" and the order size says 9! I've always worn 8-8.5 depending on brand, we ordered 8.5 which was too big and the 8 in return feels like 9-9.5 with heel slipping and the tongue always slides to side. I highly recommend trying these on in store before buying to avoid the back & forth. I've only worn these because I feel bad for how much he spent. He likes his shoes but they're an older model. I'm currently looking for an all weather high top version for Iceland, we'll see what I find. 2 stars for durability, style and somewhat waterproof.

I am so disappointed by this model of X Utra series. I have always loved my Solomons and walk for miles in them daily. But the tongs keep slipping to the side causing discomfort and it makes the unlacing difficult. I had them as my last ones leaked after only a year. I really cannot wear them much longer and they are only a few months old.

I started using X Ultra hiking shoes in 2017. Back then I loved them - though they were definitely not the most durable shoes and I had to replace them yearly. In 2020 I realized they changed the cast shape so it became much narrower. I use orthotics and they could not fit properly in the shoes. When I saw this wide version I was really excited, however they are only mildly wider in the toe box than the narrow version in 2020 and the mid foot area is still overly narrow and cannot fit orthotics. I have returned them . Please bring back the old cast!!!

These are really nice shoes. However they state they run bigger than your normal size. Not tire they run the same or a bit narrower. Unfortunately mine don't fit and I can't return as I wore them

I bought these shoes a month ago - it's been difficult to say these are comfortable. I bought my usual size and the length is right but the toe box is huge.. it makes it feel like it's impossible to tighten up and the shoe always feels like it's slipping. Wish they had a more normal toe box size

I have worn Salomon trail runners for years (about 16) and have loved them. There is something different in the heel design on these. Very, very, uncomfortable. The hard shell about a half-inch below the fabric lip digs into my heels and feels like it's about to break through the fabric. The design of the heel upper profile also does not grip at all - it's rounded, vs. cupped (see photo). Feels like they would cause heel blisters quickly and wear through the inside of heel quickly, also. Sad to be returning these, as I love the look and the aggressive tread on the bottom.

Have had of Salomon X Ultra in the past and was pleased to purchase the new ULTRA 4 with improved features. Comfortable shoes however within a few months the heel padding had worn away. I contacted Salomon who gave me a voucher to use for another pair. I have continued to wear the shoes and after a few more months the top of the shoe where the fabric is, has split across the top causing two holes to form and water now gets in. For the money they have not lasted and are disappointing

I bought these last august and within 2 months, the cushioning around both ankles had rubbed away to reveal the inner sponge. I wear these for everyday use, and they are my 3rd pair. However the new design looks great initially but now look very shabby. This never happened previously.

I Love how cute these are, but the tounge is not long enough creating many issues. These are also really wide effecting fit & cuteness. Not much arch support but seemed like they'd be comfy. Back to my speed cross 4 & 5 that are amazing.

I have bought two different sizes of the X Ultra 4 Gore-Tex shoe. The first pair was way too big and the second pair fitted ok size wise, but was soooo uncomfortable around the arch support. I kept thinking, is it me? This feels really painful... Then I thought, it's only on my left foot, maybe the left shoe/insole is faulty? And then I read the review of "Ontario95" and I couldn't have agreed more with every single word this customer had written. Yes, they are very narrow and pinched at the arch -- painfully so! And the back of the shoe is very low, to the point my heel feels like it's slipping out. Needless to say both pairs are being returned. A real shame, as I very much liked the look of these.

I bought these about 10 months ago to replace a pair of hiking trainers I'd worn as my go to shoes for everything over c.7 years. These came up with excellent reviews and were really comfy to wear when I tried them on. Comfort wise they are light, supportive and fit very well so have had no breaking in period - the toggle is also nifty. However I noticed that my feet were getting very clammy with poor skin condition. I eagerly escaped to flip flops the last few months with no foot issues but now the cooler weather is setting in I'm returning to closed shoes with the same issue - whether mild or wintry the weatherproofness does the job stopping outside moisture getting in but at the expense of no breathability / moisture wicking. At the price they cost I'll have to keep them a bit longer but would not recommend this particular model.

I bought the X Ultra 3: LOVED them. So much support, grip and stability. Discontinued and am really disappointed with X Ultra 4. I walk/hike about 125-135 miles a month - mostly trails or sand. I'm at about week 3 & feel the shoes are wearing out. Not the treads but the support/cushion.

I bought these two weeks ago after owning earlier versions of this shoe for the past six years. This version is terrible! Hot feet in the sun and soggy feet in even a light rain. Today's walk in a gentle rain left me with actual puddles in my shoes. Sad!

I bought these 4 weeks ago from go outdoors and have worn them 1/2 dozen times for low level walks (I have a pair of Salomon high boots for hiking). They are sooo comfortable. However they have developed a hole in the tongue!

I purchased these shoes to use as my go to hiking shoe. Initial impression: loved them. The fit, the comfort, the style were all on point. Wore on a few shorter woods walks and they did well. I was super stoked on my purchase. But then I went to Utah and explored multiple nat'l parks & put in decent miles each day - these shoes were nothing short of a headache. The tongue does not stay in place what-so-ever. Constantly slides down & is beyond uncomfortable! I had to stop every 20 steps to pull them up & readjust. On both shoes. I was so frustrated hiking in these that I almost ended up barefoot. This was crushing - my liking to this shoe is close to minimal. The tongue situation definitely overrides any of the positives of this shoe. Do yourself a favor and do not buy!! I also have a pair of the QUEST 4 GORE-TEX hiking boots and constantly fight the tongue in those, too. Salomon makes a comfortable shoe don't get me wrong, but they need to figure out a better solution for the tongues. I will not be buying anything else from them.

I have always purchased salomon shoes my first pair lasted a good few years. Brought these expecting same quality only to be disappointed they are comfortable but the material on the top has split in several places I wear them daily walking our dogs so get used on gravel paths or across fields. For the cost of them I would expect them to last longer than six months. Only positive comment with summer coming they will provide good ventilation for my feet with the amount of splits in the material

I wanted to love these as they are lightweight, cute and have a great toe box. However, the tongue is almost non-existent and affords no cushioning to the ankle. With each step the front of the shoe dug into my low ankle area. Maybe I just have difficult ankles, but these were sent back immediately.

I've been wearing Solomon, water proof ultra cross country hiking shoes since 2004, I love them. But they've changed. The part that rubs your heal has padding that has pushed down, so it's not even in the ridge any more. The tongue doesn't sit properly, the way it did in the earlier years. Also, ones heal doesn't sit as deeply in the shoe, it seems like a shallower foot bed. Sadly I won't be able to purchase these again.

I purchased it in mid Aug, It is very comfortable and the only shoes that I can wear everyday for walking due to my heel pain, but I am very disappointed because the fabric on top and inside the shoes came off after 3 months, and make it uncomfortable to wear them now.

They are attractive and waterproof like I was looking for. I like the tie system. They are not a good fit for me. There is not much padding or support, so my feet got tired after a relatively short hike. The material is a bit stiff I must wear extra thick socks or it blisters.

These hiking shoes seemed great at fist - no break in period at all. I was a little concerned about how they tended to bunch on the forward part of the shoe, and noticed some reviewers had said the same. I dismissed this as the shoes felt comfy. I wore them for local trail hikes (5 miles or so) prior to really putting them to the test with many miles of trails in Sedona. They seemed to hold up even with the bunching at the front. Today I went to put these back on and noticed that the lace garage had torn on both shoes. The "S" punched through the material it was attached to. I am not sure how this was not detected in product testing or how I haven't seen more of these complaints. I had read reviews of concern of quality and longevity of this design - I am now feeling the same way. Luckily, I had purchased these shoes at REI and plan on returning.
