The boots look great & are comfortable enough but the tongue doesn't sit as snug as the 2s or 3s. I think that the thinner material to create the lighter boots has meant there is a smidge more room inside (for me it feels a little odd). However, they're comfortable and sturdy around the ankle. They're exceptionally waterproof but the lugs do like to hold on to soft mud. Overall, the boots are good and do the job I bought them for & idalways recommend Salomon boots to anyone who they fit.

Really am enjoying this boot. Except for the bootlaces. I've worn Salomon boots almost exclusively for over a decade and believe they are the best available. Except for the bootlaces . On every pair prior to these the bootlaces were crazy long. These on the Mid are just about right but I still have to double tie them and they still won't stay tied! They look real pretty...

I have been a diehard SpeedCross wearer for years, so I was a little hesitant to go with a Mid-top shoe, but I finally took the plunge and I am really glad that I did. Part of it was because I had a hair-line break in my foot, that wouldn't heal until I got some really sturdy shoes/boots. This boot has been the catalyst of my healing! I am no longer in pain. This boot is super solid, and keeps the water OUT...like it's supposed to. :) I would recommend this to anyone that is looking for something with a little more support and structure, without giving up the mobility and traction of a low-top.

This is a very solid boot so far. I will say for some feet, including myself it's gonna need a break in period. My right foot felt great from day one, but my left foot was getting blisters on my ankle and pinky toe. All I did was wear bandaids until they were worn in a bit more. I'd say it took probably about 1-2 weeks or 10-15miles in total walking to break these guys in. Not bad. I also lossen the laces on my left foot a bit for comfort. Overall though, these boots are super waterproof. First day I tested it in a puddle and submerged the boot quite a bit and not a single but of moisture in the boot. The grip is very good as well. I've been in slippery conditions and felt stable with these boots. Pretty happy with the purchase and hoping the hold up over the long run!

Bought these a few months ago and worn them for everything from around the house to dog walks to hikes. Well made, keep my feet dry and warm and they are light weight. Only issue is the left shoe rides on my ankle bone a little. So I wouldn't want them on a long hike but that's what I have my quest 4's for.

Nice pair of booths, 11 d fit good would like to have tried the e width maybe a little more room, but the d is working fine. I wore them around the house for a few days then took them out for a test drive in the neighborhood. Good insoles don't think I will change them out as I do with all my other footwear.

Major upgrade from my previous hiking boots. I like the style of the sneaker/boot combo. However, I was curious about the traction and stability of these shoes when I purchased them. As soon as I opened the box, all skepticism was erased. Good quality shoes, nice craftsmanship, and outstanding traction. Great for me.

I liked the outside of shoe. When I lace it up, I like the way it pulls up from the bottom. I like the padding of the shoe tongue. I loved that they were lightweight. What I would reccomend- add padding to back of the heel.

I love these boots. They come in wide width which I needed and they fit live a glove. I have only had them for a month and, so far, I haven't had any problems. But, when I was changing out my laces for the lacey system I noticed a couple of areas on the shoe that look like they may be a point of failure later. It's where the front part of the upper connects with the shoe's collar. Sorry, I don't know the anatomy of a shoe. The pictures I've attached show what I'm talking about. I'm not saying that these will fail here but time will tell. If/until then, I'll enjoy wearing these.

Even though it's Gore-Tex, after just two uses, some leakage has occurred and my feet got damp after a three hour hike. Better than waterproof, but i'd expect more from a gore-tex product at this price point.

I have owned both the ultra 3 and the ultra 4. The ultra 3 was a good hiking boot but it fell apart too quickly both the sole and the upper especially. I tried the fours and so far the upper is holding up much better, no holes yet. The sole is another story- wearing down far too quickly. The lugs need to be a little deeper and more importantly a rubber compound needs to be harder. I would gladly trade a little grippiness for a longer wearing tread

I used a pair for the Cambrian Way a year ago and found them great on the varied terrain on grass, mud, tarmac, stones and rocks. I was pleased so bought a fresh pair for the Grande Traversee des Alpes, 700km (GR5, 55, 52). The trail is very varied and very rugged over stones and rocks with rough ascents and descents, so pretty hard on the boots, sometimes coming down over 2000m in a day! They performed brilliantly, soft enough to feel what's underfoot and mould to the terrain and grip well, without being so soft that the foot felt sore or bruised. The only criticism is that the heels wore almost flat on that walk, so the boots still look in great condition but only good now for flat walks. Also the material at the sides of the toes is just showing signs of splitting. So, great performance while they last, but the sole needs to be tougher and the upper material too to last for a hike as tough as and longer than the GR5. That's why 4 and not 5 stars.

Great hiking boot. I've hiked 12 14,000 foot mountains in these and countless other hikes. I have had them for 1.5 years now and the soles are getting worn out but they've had a LOT of use. Everything from class 3 on Longs Peak to muddy backpacking trips all around Colorado.
I do have 2 complaints with these:
1. You feel every rock you step on, scree fields hurt. Insoles are definitely needed and it fixes this issue.
2: The ankle does not close up well enough and a lot of rocks and dirt get it. I use trail running gaiters to fix this.

I've only put ~30 miles on these so far, but I love how stable they are. Kinda regretting not getting the Quest 4 instead, as my only complaint with the X Ultra is I wish there was a little more stability in the ankle. The footbed is pretty stiff, which is what I was looking for. However, the ankle could use more stability.

They are water proof, true to size and looks great but comfortable as compare to speedcross 5. Not enough cushion, i like to take long walks but they aren't good enough. And I won't recommend for winters as well.

Chose these walking shoes after quite a lot of online research and first impresions are very good. I chose mid width size 10 (UK) and at first wondered if they were a bit too
tight, but after a few good walks, they are fine. They do grip the foot at all points but to the right extent and there is no sign of rubbing, constriction, or discomfort after removing them. Actually they make my feet look smaller than many shoes do, so not clunky or heavy. The extra ankle support, which I have not had before I find works well and the soles seem to be chunky enough to make walking over uneven ground reasonably easy. I also quite like the sole pattern which does not collect kilograms of grit and mud, my main bugbear. We'll see how they last, but I don't give them really heavy use often.

I absolutely LOVE these, so much that there is most likely another pair (and color) in my future.
Only two small gripes:
1) I wish there was one more lace cleat or that the laces were just a little shorter. An easy fix with shorter laces, I just can't seem to find what I'm looking for as of yet.
2) The heal cushioning is just a smidge hard. I only noticed this recently coming down a steep incline on Mt Cammerer (SMNP) and before we reached the end of the trail, my heal was slightly bruised. Again, easy fix with an insole.
Side note - I have read other reviews and I have no idea how folks are wearing their soles down, mine are SOLID with not many signs excessive wear and that's with nearly 100 mi on them since March.
Overall, I give them a 4,5 and will indeed purchase again.

Great lightweight mid. Feel like the V3 but with updated design. If I could change anything I would make the sole a bit more gripping for wet rock. Also, add more stability to ankle

Let down with the grip in wet conditions. Had several outings now and the boots are superb on all types of terrain, great stability and no fatigue etc. One of the main points for buying them was the claim to be grippy in wet conditions and sadly, they were not. Scrambling Tryfan was a little slippy and unsteady at times and didn't have much confidence in them sadly. Maybe they will get better but reading here seems to be the case, they don't hold well in wet conditions. Great looking boots, just falling short on the claims for wet weather.

These hiking boots look and feel amazing. They have minimal support around the ankles but do protect from brushes with flora on the terrain.
I tested them for their waterproof quality by submerging the boots under water near ankle height for 5 minutes. My feet came out completely dry which is great and the right boot had the water bead off, leaving the surface dry too. The left boot however, seems to be lacking the water repellent treatment on its surface so the superficial surface became wet and soggy. Even though the inner lining gortex kept the water out, the soggy wet outer layer started to cause dampness inside the shoe. After about 24 hours they dried out. I plan to apply water repellent to the left boot to fix this.
Overall, a quality light hiking boot.

I bought these boots for light hikes. They are very comfortable and keep the heel in place nicely. Only the sole has the usual problem of not being very durable. It's grippy, but simply didn't hold up very long for me. The Quest 3D is very different there with a long lasting sole. Other than that it's a great boot.
