These are my first pair of sense ride, I tend to run in very rocky/technical terrain so the alpine pro had been my go-to. These perform really well in general, is a good "travel shoe" for when you don't know what type of terrain you will encounter and need a shoe that does everything. I might note two things: 1. I thought I was crazy thinking the shoe was noisy, but after reading the reviews I see I'm not the only one. They do this weird sound when the upper flexes, it can get annoying in long runs. 2. The upper does not hold in place the foot as well as other more technical shoes do. When coming down steep and rocky terrain I had to stop and really tighten the shoes to prevent my foot from sliding to much to the front. This creates a bit of a hotspot on the most front part of my arch. So for packed trails and easy forresty runs they are great but won't use these for morr mountainous terrain. The protection on the toes is really good though! And they seem durable. My sense 8 got ripped very quickly when running them in the same terrain I ran in with the sense ride.

This will be my fourth pair of the SenseRide shoes. I have had the 3's previously - they are obviously a shoe that I love. The fit, the weight, the grip - everything about them is stellar. Unfortunately, the sizing changed a bit - and these are a little large now. I should have known better and checked - but have a lot of confidence in this shoe since I have worn it so much. I will give a half size down a try and hopefully can find the perfect shoe again.

Narrow, stiff and ready to roll your ankles. Felt great on the sidewalk. Feel like an ankle sprain waiting to happen on even the mildest of trails. Can't imagine actually using them for a proper trail run.

I've had 2 pairs of Sense Ride 2's and they've been by far the best trainer I've had. As the soles were gone, I needed an upgrade so naturally looked at the latest Sense Ride as a replacement. Initially, all was well. Comfort had improved noticed on the first run sore sensation on left sole. Investigation of the insole showed that it had rolled and I think this is because when lifting the tongue on foot insert it displaced the insole (as it is a different design to SR2) and sat incorrectly on the run. Also noticed that the toe part of the insole was also rolled, unsure how this had happened as it was rolled under itself. I'm unable to return the insert to its original shape. This issue was only on one shoe. And, I'd that wasn't bad enough, like others have mentioned there is a loud and audible clicking due to the mesh. I had hoped this would have lessened through use but it seems not. I wish I just could get SR2 replacements as I'm so disappointed with what I have now. Salomon are no longer my first choice of trail shoe unfortunately.

SR 3 was great shoe. Capable of everything, from light trails to alpine ultras. Only thing to improove was weight. Yes, SR 3 was a bit heavy. Then SR 4 came out and weight was streamed down. Great. Perfect job. But. Build quality? Clilicking sound of new upper mesh and finger loop on both shoes torned on my first run. Untill now Salomon was perfect example of high quality materials and production. I also use S LAB ULTRA 3, that is great and really dialed in shoe and still example of highest possible level of material selection and production. I wish, SR 5 will be mix of sense concept, and s lab quality. Anyway, still your big fan, buyer and user.

Having owned multiple pairs of Speedcross, Salomon are my preferred shoe due to the fit and quick lace system. Running in the UK across a mixture of surfaces including road, hard packed trail, mud and fells you typically have to own a variety of shoe as no one shoe will fit the bill. Speedcross are my first choice for mud, snow etc and I tend to run through puddles hence they need to drain well, but as my road mileage has been increasing and the S/C wear down quickly I having been looking for a road to trail show and having tried Altra, Adidas etc as recommended by friends I decided to try the Sense Ride 4. Normally I buy mid price shoes and these were premium purchase. They look good, the fit is wider and slightly bigger than the S/C, the toe box is roomy and they feel like a bit like a road shoe, so far 3 runs in with the longest being 14 miles and they feel fit for purpose. The lace locker is in an awkward area as the lace traps this closed when pulled tight and the finger loop came detached on the 2nd wearing when pulled, which isn't great. However, Salomon customer service handled this well. I. need to spend more time in them to see how they hold up as I normally get 400 miles out of the s/c

Usually wear 9's. Bought 8.5 as 9's were way too long. 8.5's were a great length, but soon narrow. I couldn't get them to be comfortable no matter what. Feet hurt after 10 minutes in them.

I've run over 30 miles in these shoes since receiving them a week ago and feel comfortable enough to share my experience. These shoes have a lot of positive features but there is a downside that some folks need to be aware of. For those looking to run on rugged terrain/trails, you'll want to look at other shoe options. If you're looking to run on light trails (i.e. gravel, dirt) and/or roads, these could be one of the best options out there. I run on trails where some trails contain a lot of exposed rocks and roots so I was looking for a shoe that had decent structure and cushion to handle the rugged terrain. With these shoes, you feel EVERYTHING. There is very little cushioning. There is also very little lateral/ankle support so making a lot of lateral movements is challenging. In fact, I rolled an ankle on mile 3 with these shoes. To be honest, I prefer to wear my asics gel nimbus on the more rugged trails and stick to these shoes on lighter trails and/or trails with drastic elevation change. I want to make it clear that these shoes are very good on light trails. They're definitely one of the best out there in a light trail / road environment. If I were to score these shoes more thoroughly, here's what I would give them (out of 5; 5 being optimal): Quality - 4 Durability - TBD (so far no apparent issues) Immediate comfort - 4 Running comfort - 2 (disclaimer: I use these on light and rugged trails; On light trails only, I would give this a 4) Support (lateral) - 1 Weight - 4 (pretty light) Cushion - 1 Traction - 4

Has the clicking noise been fixed yet? Is a new version due? It looks like not many sizes/colors are available. I had 2 pairs and liked the fit / feel but could not handle the constant click.

I really wanted this shoe to work out but as soon as I tried it on and took a first step the shoes kept making this weird buckling sound by the big toe area. They seemed comfortable and I like the looks too but even after I took it for a few miles to try to break them in the noise never when away. Unfortunately I had to returned it since the sound was very evident and annoying.

Very comfortable, but narrow fit. Unfortunately- Have only worn a few times now and not yet for strenuous exercise. Today an eyelet tore and they were not even on very tight. Indicative of poor quality. Never had this issues with other Salomon shoes I've had. Very Disappointed. Would not recommend.

I take tham as outdoor shoes to Armenia&Georgia. After 4 weekends of usage, both of them had a hole on my little-finger (suddently no waterproof, no secure). I had to buy a new pair. I dont understand so good reviews in comparison pages.

These were horrible. Salomon has always been my go to for trail runners. Others were right about the tongue of these being too thick as you can feel the bulk of the beginning of the tongue across the top of your feet. Absolutely awful. They also run a half size large.

I agree with other reviews that the forward part of the shoe makes a click/pop sound when walking/running. This is a deal breaker. I'm returning the shoes. It's a shame because it's an otherwise great shoe.

I have a pair of Sense Ride 3 that I love and have been amazing. Great support and traction AND light weight. Wore them out and purchased the 4s but they are way bigger in the same size. Disappointed. Will try to size down but what a pain waiting for these to come in stock and now return and reorder because sizing is different. Seems like a quality control issue.

Tried on shoes and first step I took had popping noises that numerous people reported of and would drive me insane. It’s unfortunate that this is such a big problem, from such a well known company. Returned shoes.

Reading through the many complaints, it's hard to believe the "3.8" rating. I returned two pair for the noise issue. Time for version 5.

I originally had an older sense ride which fell apart due to a manufacturing issue which Salomon agreed to warranty, due to salomon fitting my foot well I replaced them with the Sense Ride 4 but that's where it went down hill. Upon getting the shoe I noticed there was an irritating popping/snapping, I kept using them in hopes that the material would softer & the issue end. I contacted salomon about the issue (that they have admitted is a warranty/manufacturing issue), however they turned me away stating I was out of the original purchase period. This seems bad service as they replaced one faulty product with another & punished me for trying to persevere & create less waste.

I like the Solomon quicklace system but it doesn't work on this shoe because the net pocket is below the laces. You can't insert the quicklace mechanism into the pocket after you tighten the laces.

Got these for Christmas after owning a pair of both the sense ride 2 and 3 and finding them both excellent. I just assumed the 4's would be similar snd offer some improvements on previous models. That is not the case. The lacing system is poorly designed where it will actually cover the lip of fabric where you're supposed to insert the end of the quick lace system. Prior versions did not have this problem. The heel bed design is significantly different than prior year versions. It's much loftier which is great for road running or non technical terrain but not great for more technical terrain where you want a flatter design to give you more feel snd control as you're navigating rocks, roots, etc underfoot. Stability is worse on trails as a result making you feel more prone to ankle rolls. Lastly, there is some design flaw around the toebed with extra material or something, that clicks and creaks every time you walk. The sound is very annoying and I've found no way to fix it. Disappointed in this purchase and the 4's steps backwards compared to the 2 and 3.

I've owned previous versions of the Sense Ride and have loved it for trail runs and long distant road running. However, after running in this new version of the Sense Ride, I may have to find a new shoe. First, there is a major flaw in the lacing/tongue design. The laces in the past were designed to be tightened and then tucked into the tongue pocket. However, the placement of the pocket on the Ride 4 makes it impossible to tuck in the extra laces...just bad design. Additionally, the tongue has been constructed differently and is more stiff across the top of your foot and does not conform as in previous versions. I'm hoping Salomon will go back to previous designs or at the very least fix the obvious errors in this shoe.
