I really like this shoe...but it's not stabilizing enough for my needs. Lightweight, comfortable, good tread, wide toe box. Unfortunately I will have to return it since I was scolded a little bit by my physical therapist!
I'd also recommend:
Asics, Alegria, Vionics, Brooks

I've been looking to replace my hiking shoes that I could run in too and originally wanted to find waterproof versions but in the end liked the color choices of the non-waterproof versions. For my usual running shoes, my feet typically love ASICS 2100s, which are a stability show and very cushioned. These 5s are less structured/stiff in the upper- especially around the heal, but I don't mind. They are very cushioned(more than I expected) and although I have let to try a run, I'm super happy. I have a high/thick instep and because there is so much room in the toe box, I have so much space. I've been wearing these everywhere!

This is my fourth pair of Altras. I first bought them because they are vegan but quickly got hooked. I have the Lone Peak hiking boots and I wear them when it's wet or cold outside and when I go camping. These Lone Peak shoes are just as comfortable and gorgeous too! I've gotten several compliments on them too! Like any shoe with a more natural, open toe box, they may take more time for you to get used to if you haven't worn anything like them before.

Lightweight and flexible yet they feel so sturdy/stable. Coming down our steeper gravel driveway with our double stroller has been SO much easier with these shoes! I've not slipped once! My ankles and feet feel so stable and supported. This shoe will be my go-to for our roads from now on!

Great trail running shoe. Toes don't get pinched on the downhill and they are light but sturdy enough to run over rough terrain. Grippy soles so I'm not sliding and the toe box is wide enough to accommodate my arthritic feet comfortably. Honestly the ONLY shoe I can run in!

Size 11 fit me very well, though the wide toe box is almost too wide for me. But I can easily wear thick socks to accommodate that. My foot is B width but my long toes need a wide box. They are lighter weight than I expected. I love the deep plum color!

I tried switching to the Superiors for my last shoe purchase but am happy to be back to Lone Peaks. These have just the right amount of cushion to make my feet happy.

I found Altras about 6 years ago. When I needed a new pair, I was put off a bit by the price and tried another brand -- but I'm back! These are just too comfortable to wear anything else. I was looking for something waterproof, but instead went with this shoe that is designed to "drain well". The material of the shoe is so much more flexible than waterproof ones. My feet thank me by feeling good!

I've been looking for a pair of sneakers that were comfortable and provided enough support and cushion as I'm on my feet most of the day... these shoes deliver so much, so I got another pair. I'd highly recommend them to anyone who's on their feet a lot. My joints feel good and I my feet even better. Love them!

Needed a shoe for hiking that wasn't a full boot. And for the occasional run. These are light, but sturdy. I'm flat footed and wasn't sure if there was enough cushion, but hasn't been an issue at all. Absolutely the most comfortable shoe I own, never going back to the other big brands. Plus, they're the cutest trail runners I've seen. Have recommended them to everyone.

Fit is great. Not as cushiony as I thought they would be but plenty of room for orthotic inserts.

I have been using the W Lone Peak 5 for walking and hiking. Very comfortable. It was a toss up whether to get the size 8 or 7.5 as one foot is longer than the other. There did not seem to be a huge difference in sizes. The width is perfect. Water proof is a bonus. .

I love how comfortable these shoes are. I was wearing Brooks running shoes for the last few years and discovered Altra and I won't be wearing Brooks shoes anymore. These shoes fit true to size. I bought my normal shoe size and they fit perfect. I was worried I would need to get use to wearing the Altras or that my feet would hurt after wearing them all day because I am use to a very cushioned shoe, but neither was the case. These shoes felt comfortable from the moment I put them on and I feel like I am actually walking normally with them as opposed to always feeling like I'm leaning forward with traditional shoes due to the high heel drop. Anyhow, do yourself a favor and buy these shoes. You won't regret it. My only complaint is the color selection. I love bright and fun colored shoes. I love the plum color option! Super cute! The other color options are boring and dull. If Altra adds some different shades of blues, greens, purples then I will definitely buy another pair.

I have worn two other styles of Altra shoes that I love, but they are wearing out and no longer give me the support I need. Both pairs were wide sizes, which, along with their toe box, were heaven to my feet, which have enough issues that I can’t wear shoes that compress my feet in any way. But Altra has apparently decided against continuing wide sizes for nearly all their styles. I bought a pair of Provision 5’s in medium width but they were not comfortable and I returned them. Then I discovered Zappos had one pair of Lone Peak 5 in wide in my size and I grabbed them before even looking at what style they are. They are wonderful—plenty of room and plenty of support with a side benefit of great tread so that a steep muddy hike I took recently gave me confidence I wasn’t going to slip and go down the hill on the wrong part of my anatomy. Altra’s website doesn’t show this shoe in wide, so this pair may have been a leftover from days when they were smarter, but I’m glad to have found these shoes.

This is my second pair of Alta Lone Peak 5s in a year. I love them and worried Alta would stop making them so I purchased a new pair to have in reserve. They are as comfortable for hiking on wooded trails as they are for just walking on city sidewalks.

Even though I haven't been hiking trails I like that I am ready with these shoes. I wear them daily for my workout and my 3+ mile walk. They are comfortable and eye-catching. This PE teacher has never spent anywhere near this amount on shoes but these are worth it. If I ever get on trails my shoes are gaiter ready too.

I ordered a full size larger to fit my orthotics and because that what I have done with the Timp models I have used. They are about a half size larger than I actually needed but they are comfy and I am just going to go with them. The toe box is very roomy and satisfying. The cushioning could be improved but so much better than the Timp 2.0, that they feel luxurious by comparison. I recommend these for trail walking and the tread really grabs so they are stable. I am not a runner so I can't comment on how they are for that sport, but for walking, they are really good
